The first one I ever saw/witnessed/had in the family I believe was a Famicom (Jap version of the NES). I have vivid memories of playing/watching my brother play Contra at the age of about 3 or 4. The first console I actually owned was a Sega Game Gear, with "Daffy Duck goes to Hollywood" :crazy .

I've been trying to figure this out but I honestly can't remember. My neighbour had mega drive, lynx and gamegear. no clue what I had. pissing me off.
I remember my gameboys, n64 and ps2 but I still don't think they were the first. I remember being fucking envious of my friends Saturn.

The first console I owned was a Nintendo, but the first console I ever played was a Vectrex that an uncle had.

I have many favorite console games--some including Phantasy Star IV, Street Fighter II, Resident Evil CV, Tenchu, NiGHTS, Contra, Battle of Olympus, etc.

I haven't kept up with the console scene, and have not played a console game in a long time!

@Saigyo ..hahaha.. I'm old too ><.

@ShiroC I owned that gold cartridge too--I feel NES games were more challenging to beat than games that came after the golden era. The cartridges were pretty expensive.. $50+/per game for a kid, but we only received a new NES game during birthdays.

One of my earliest memories is playing Mario on the SNES when I was 4 or so. Had lots of fun through Nintendo growing up. Getting all the masks in Majora's Mask without a guide IIRC was a notable achievement.

As far as I can remember, I had an Atari but I can't remember the name of the games I played on it nor what the console looked like anymore. This was when I was around 3 or so. All I recall was that it was an Atari but nothing more. A little afterwards, I got an NES with Donkey Kong and that's about all my memories of my youth can dig up.

I can't remember exactly. I think my first game console was either my SNES, or my N64. I have a shitty Xbox 360 now and I rarely ever play it (it's just not as good as the classic consoles). I remember Chrono Trigger being one of my favorite games. Those were the days.

The first console that we ever played on was the Atari 2600, which my father received as a gift in the late 70's. I'm pretty sure we had a few other games but I only remember playing Basketball, Bowling, Space Invaders, Pac-Man and Pitfall.

The first one purchased for us kids was the Sega Master System in '86, followed by Sega Master System II in '89. These were used frequently and well into the 90's. Our collection: Action Fighter, Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse, Choplifter, Ghost House, Global Defense, Hang-On/Astro Warrior, Out Run, Paperboy, Penguin Land, Shanghai , Spider-Man and Teddy Boy. Also, this one called Altered Beast that happened to be played the least because my parents initially didn't approve of its graphic nature. And, of course, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, which was built into the MSII.

Other:
From 3-5 years of age I also had fun using not a video game console but rather an interactive video learning system called VideoSmarts. That thing was cool. There's some vids on YouTube if you want some examples of its awesomeness, e.g., this and this. Dammmn, the nostalgia!!

Here's a nice anecdotic commendation of it I came across.

In the mid-90's by brother got a Sega Game Gear which was effectively a hand-held Master System, with a few enhancements, as you might know. Man, I loved to play Bonkers: Wax Up! on there, inspired by the incredible animated tv series of the same name which I loved to watch.

The last console the whole family used before the interest faded was Sega Saturn which we got in the late 90s, a time during which we also made use of three Game Boy Color consoles and various titles.
