I knew the term and concept already, then I was reading a CNN article about poor people living in cages in Hong Kong, and I found myself thinking 'Well, the cage sucks, but look how nice and neatly self-contained each little home is. Imagine if it was a nicer little room. I could live in that.'

And I wanted to tell someone but, well, there's nobody around here who'd understand.

So... a forum search for people like me later, and HikiCulture popped to the top of the Google list, and here I am.

I bet you're all feeling illuminated after reading that, aren't you? Ha haa, stole a little bit of your life, can't have it back now!

*runs*

Pretty much my reason to have discovered HikiCulture. The one forum in my country that even scratched the main topic of my life didn't have any active participants, and when it did people ended up fighting over the most remote and idiotic subjects you could think of.

On the web... a few years back i found the Hikikomori board on AnonIB, i felt really enthusiastic, for the first time in my life i was reading about similar story's and feelings, in a completely anonymous way. But the whole damn thing was extra weird... so i gradually stopped going there.

A couple of weeks ago, browsing my bookmarks i stumbled on the Hiki link, went there, its empty, only a few posts. One of them talks bad about an "HikiCulture" place, direct quote:

Anonymous wrote:
hikiculture sucks man, too many rules, and you get banned for no good reasons.

It turns out it was wrong (unless i get banned after this post :surprised ), great topics of conversation, and a whole bunch of smart friendly people that don't even know how much value they have.

For instance, YOU HAVE A SELF PIC THREAD, AND A VOICE THREAD... people recite poetry! how can this be bad?

We can even curse, talk about how we feel openly, talk about anxiety, depression and even suicide. And we can post while drunk... weeeee :halo (not that i'm drunk, at the moment i'm not lol)

Anyway, i'm glad i found HC.

I went on IRC and I found the HC chatroom after doing a /list command which lists all of the channels in the server. People on the chat were pretty nice so I registered.

Last week, I was lonely/bored and didn't have anybody to talk to. I went to Chatroulette but was disappointed because nobody wanted to talk about anything other than sex. I googled something along the lines of "sites where introverted people can talk" or "chatrooms for shy people". I clicked links and somehow ended up here.

Your username has won over my heart entirely. I don't know why. Strangely endearing. I...just had to share. :halo

Aww. My cat, Scout, was sitting in my room when I made the account and I'm really bad at thinking of usernames so she was my inspiration.

Cats are good inspiration. Er. Well, my cat mostly just encourages laziness, but that's her way. XD

I, for the record, was like, 'another one?'... of course, 'Megan loves her cat' could mean any number of things. :neutral
What is with all the goddamn cat lovers here?!!

^ Scarry lumped you in with all the females oozing affection toward cats, which is actually kinda funny.

Unless I'm missing something. Yeah, that's probably the case. :idiot

I don't know if i'm accurate about it, but i took it as that he discovered HC through females. That... Is kinda funny actually.

Also: Cats are cute, some or most of them at least, so i can't say i'm surprised a lot of lonely people love them.

Hmm. Ohhhhh. I see. lol

Anyway it proved to be the perfect opportunity for my silly outburst, I think, because I've been wondering that for awhile.
You're right, Dream... but really pets in general can be good company for lonely people. Well, for that reason some pets are better than others, I know.
Cats? They're okay but I don't find them all that appealing, tbh. But each to his own.
I just wanna know: Where my dog people at?!
I'd start a thread about it but I'm not sure if there already is one.

I agree that the high concentration of cat lovers on the site is probably because lonely person+pet= love and friendship. But I am also just one of those animal lovers who types 'cute kitten' into the Youtube searchbar...

True, in general some pets will be better than others at giving warmth, but i think it also highly depends on your tastes and what kind of person one is. I like dogs but i think i enjoy cats more, i think it's because of how silent, majestous and stylish they are (generally) like fluffy ninjas. I don't think there is a Dog thread tough, so if you want you can go and make one :thumbsup.

THEN YOU ARE NOT A MAN!.

You must go right now to Cracked and follow the advice of the guru of manliness: Seanbaby! You can only redeem your man card with the dog that doesn't give a fuck!

... by looking for it?

Actually, it was kind of weird. I was about to fall asleep, but then I had this overwhelming idea all of a sudden: it involved launching a forum for people like me, to get the chance to talk about a few things. Furthermore, I started to wonder whether there was someone like me (not just for being or having been a Hikikomori, but, let's say, in more detail). I've been reading posts here for a few hours now and I might just stay.

A while ago I was looking for Hikkikomori and then I just bookmarked it.

I'm sort of ready to try to talk to other people.
