 Ketchup can go bad.
I did not know this. I consumed old ketchup, thinking that if the bottle had never been opened, it must be ok.
Boy was I wrong. Do not consume old ketchup. I would have gone to bed hours ago if it weren't for the ill effects of the bad ketchup.
Do you have any food poisoning stories or other commentary?

Bad, evil ketchup. *Punch*
Everything can go to the dark side, even sugar candies. I once ate bonbons from a several years ago carnival... that was when I stopped thinking dry, sugary sweets could never go bad. Anyhow, nothing is more disgusting than milk gone bad.

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
I don't eat out anymore, due to a mix of food poisoning incidents and my many allergies.

Thanks for sharing that; I had no idea ketchup (or candy) could go bad.

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
I've eaten quite a few things past the date, but I've never had any major ill effects from them. The only time I've gotten food poisoning was when I when I went on a trip to Mexico, and accidentally consumed their ice. Took me months to fully recover. The nausea was gone in a few days, but my appetite was gone for months afterwards and I lost a lot of weight. I was told it was Montezuma's Revenge.

My worst experiences are about eating chocolate and boiled eggs. And another time I was very sick when I ate old shellfishes in a city away from sea, bad idea, very bad idea.

Haha, over here whenever you eat a dodgy curry, the after-effects are referred to as 'Gandhi's Revenge'

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
Me too. I tend to grow over-confident as am still taken by surprise when something actually makes my guts revolt. Should have learned by now . . . Hey, Coke can't go bad, can it? I've heard the Mexican variety is especially bad, but you can get "travel gut" anywhere. I get it whenever I go to a new continent. It's because there are germs everywhere, but they're slightly different in different places, so it takes a while (weeks or months) for your immune system to get used to them.

Once, I had terrible meatballs in school... Stupid people told me that the pink in there was fine, that it was cooked... LIARS ALL OF 'EM.

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
The only time I can think of that food made me sick enough to vomit was some bad Chinese food. Chicken of some kind. (Man, I could go for some chinese chicken right about now.)
I have gotten a little nauseous from food other times -- I recently tried to cook some frozen seafood pieces (mostly squid and baby octopus) on a george foreman grill, and apparently didn't cook anywhere near long enough.

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
Cheese cake. The cake was fine, really. But I developed stomach flu after a few hours, puked several rounds and had fever for days. That happened about two months ago. Since then, I eat less than my usual portion and feel nauseous whenever I see cheese cakes.

I do not like ketchup, fresh tomatoes are much better. Mustard adore, I can eat like butter on bread, always something delicious to me.

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
Ketchup can definitely go bad. If it's brown and doesn't smell right, trust your instinct I've eaten cheesecake that was quite a few days passed its use by date . It didn't taste the same, maybe a little stale, but was ok. I suffered no il effects.

 Re: Ketchup can go bad.
I once ate out of date coleslaw, it made me feel like death, I thought I had apendicitus (sp?) or something. It was an incredibly debilitating sharp pain in my abdomen. I don't eat coleslaw any more . We would never have a problem with out of date ketchup in our house since we go through it like sweets.

I'll eat things that have sat out for a while. I'm not picky about it and I've never had a problem.

I am very picky about stuff like that, also such a story never happened to me. Fresh and tasty food is best food.
