The IRC chat-box we currently have is better than any shout-box I've used.

With IRC, you can log into chat through an IRC client (such as X-Chat, Irssi, mIRC, etc.) and have access to a lot of nice features.

To enter chat via the shout-box, type a user-name and click on "Connect". If you want to enter via an IRC client, refer to my X-Chat guide.

How about adding a personal stories section?

Those who want to could share their personal (life) stories (as much, or as little, of their life story that they wanted share).

I think it could be great, though, to hear about the lives of fellow Hikikimori's. Both the positives and any negatives.

The positive parts would be inspiring , and the negative parts (where present) would help us to realize that we Hikikimori's are not alone in our struggles.

Does anyone else think we should make it mandatory to put flash/youtube videos and large photos in a spoiler tag/bbcode?
(maybe excluding pic/video/youtube specific threads)

I just think there should be common courtesy, as i noticed putting something in spoiler tag keeps it from loading at all until clicked, which keeps clutter down and is good for those with slow connection/limited bandwidth.

To be honest, if everyone started to use spoilers to hide all their images/videos, I'd go fucking crazy. I mostly despise spoilers and use them sparingly. It would be very annoying if everyone would start hiding all their pictures and YouTube videos in them.

If I imposed a rule, do you actually think people would remember to add spoiler BBcodes to everything they post? But even if people would hide their content in spoilers, people with slow connections would still be curious as to what the hell was hidden under the spoilers and would click on them anyway.

YouTube videos, when not playing, use up hardly any bandwidth as they only have to load the thumbnail preview, so I don't see them being a problem. When it comes to images, well... these days, you see large images on pretty much every site. The internet simply isn't kind to anyone who uses a slow connection and hasn't been for at least half a decade.

If people have slow connections, they can install NoScript or FlashBlock to speed things up by blocking all Flash content. I personally don't recommend installing both as NoScript has the exact same capabilities as FlashBlock (it can block all Flash from appearing), but some people find NoScript to be overkill so...

Fair enough, yeah i guess someone could just use AdBlock Plus and NoScript.
I just hate seeing a cluster-fuck of images from one post that lags up the whole page on loading...

I think it would be fine for you to use the "Science & Technology" board for this. Just start you a new thread on social sciences. Could be interesting.

At this point, there shouldn't be more boards. I think any topic could fit under the currently available ones. If in doubt of where to create a topic, to stick it in Random or Other will do you justice, but in this case, I recommend you stick the topic in Science & Technology.

You can edit your posts, but you only get 15 minutes to do so. The reason is because on forums such as these, people tend to delete/edit out their posts a lot. It's good to archive posts as it prevents confusion. Let's say a very active user creates lots of topics over a span of a year, then a year later, they decide to delete all of their posts. That would cause a lot of confusion on the board, especially if they deleted all of their OPs.

One community i was apart of did this and it worked out pretty well. We all even started playing online poker together while on teamspeak.

Um.. why is the hikiculture site suddenly redirecting to "hikiculture.net"? This is... strange. My cookies for the site were gone, and noscript went off when I first logged in. Was there a change in prophpbb?

Since HC's domain has changed, NoScript recognizes it as being a totally different site than what it was when the "prophpbb" was added to the end of it. This is why it wasn't whitelisted anymore.

Ah.. yeah, I looked for a thread and didn't see one, you posted after me. But yeah... see my response in that thread. Also, I confusingly now see that "hikiculture.com" works again and I no longer get re-routed to hikiculture.net. Lol.

Dunno if anyone's said this before (and I feel kinda too new to have the right to complain), but... isn't the font very tiny? I have to zoom in my browser alot viewing most webpages because I'm somewhat visually impaired (20/500 with no glasses, still slightly fuzzy with, probably due to glare and diagnosed eye strain on top of my other issues), and for this site I have to zoom it in an extra lot to the point I have to scroll horizontally on some pages (if the tables were stretched due to posted images and such) x_o For a hiki forum, I wouldn't think I'm the only one here with eye strain (or other eye issues).

The font is of a standard size. Perhaps you accidentally zoomed out a bit with your browser? That sometimes accidentally happens to me with Firefox.

Am I just noticing now that there's a feature to view all unread posts?
