How long have you been a hikikomori for?

This question applies to you if you go out once a month or less on average.

Oh good... so there are hikikomori here.

Last time I checked this thread, there were only like 2 votes, which made me think "WTF?".

But even hikikomori has to go out for food... I go out only once a week and just for food...

I'd rather starve!

I haven't stepped outside in almost 2 months now (50 days).

The past year I've usually gone outside once a month. For about three years I only went outside three or four times a year, if that.

since five years ago ive only gone out when i was forced to. last year i tried adult education classes and a summer job but i broke down mentally and gave up.

It's been over 5 years since I've been in public, unless riding in a car counts, which it doesn't because I say so.

I stay upstairs in my room all day and only go downstairs for food when my dad is asleep.
I've been like that ever since my dad bought this house from my mom 12 years ago.

i go outside for the sole reason of being forced to go to work.
and i have to buy food also.
if i had a choice, i would just stay inside all the time except to buy food. maybe if i win millions in the lotto max or something.

It's been over 18 years since I was out in open sunlight. I only leave the house if it's raining, or if I need milk.

In reality, I am not a true hikikomori, and I never have been. At my worst I would not leave the house, but I always at least left my room.

prolly since the day i drooped (you see i can't speel for shit and i aight changing it) out in my third year of high school....junior year i think then i broke up with my girlfreind and went into hiding for about 3 years or two and a half sounds better....BUT i didn't kno whut a hikikomori was untill i saw Welcome to the HNK.......so answer is 2 and a half years...think i already posted here but i forgot

If only it wasn't for school I'd most likely forget what the sun would look and feel like, because of that factor I'd say I've have about 3 years of not setting foot outside. Damn me having to go to class twice a week. It was good after the break with my ex, I had my 8 moths of not going anywhere but to the bathroom and the kitchen, I wasn't even going to college at the time. Those were the days, staying inside no matter the weather, playing xbox till my thumbs became purple. Trash building up and I would set it outside for my step brother to take out, food being catered to be so I rarely even came out the room. Those were the days I love to reminisce about. And then college broke that cycle, the sun nearly blinded the shit out of me, and occasionally does even when I walk to my indoor patio. I got a downgrade from true hiki to reclusive.

yea...school was my downfall....I was lyke a vampire though for at least three yrz.(not included school)...like i would just stay in my room and play games all day..nintindo 64,Xbox,gamecube,ps2 and 1.....i had all of it.. and i never wanted to leave em....but then school had to come mess my life up..and it still is ..because i would rather stay in the house and play my games then anything....

It all went down hill during junior high. I pretty much abandoned everything when i was around 15, and was i'd say a hikkimori with all the mental agony for about 6 years until i stumbled on pua, nlp, and self help, which i voraciously devoured for about 3 years while going out and socializing a bit. Although i can go out now to take an occasional class or meetup, when i'm not doing those things i still have this tendency to stay in my room for long periods of time. It's actually kind of troubling, because i really do want to live. I don't know where all of you are at, but if a bunch of hikikomori all got together got up and traveled the world, i think it would do a LOT of good-- give a lot of world experience, confidence, perspective and probably a lot of other things too. I imagine they'd return different people. That's what pictures pop into my mind anyway

Oops, I didn't see that part. I guess it's only technically been somewhere between a year-and-a-half and two years for me - unless you don't count the 8 months I was in college---(when, obviously, I had to leave the house to go to school.) If you don't count then, then probably more like 3 or 4 years... I can't really remember because it wasn't as if it was a big, sudden, noticeable change for me, since I've always been reclusive.

For me, my patterns are always one extreme to another. Either I stay locked up for half a year+ then be incredibly active outdoors the next. I just try to avoid people as much as possible. I shouldn't... Sigh. They are overwhelming.

15+ Years... wow a long time.
I was reclusive after grade school. The older I got, the more I've skipped school.
And when I finished school, I stayed home.
Though I worked 1.5 months at a temp agency.

Oh, I didn't know there was a difference between hikikomori and reclusive. =X

Hmm... I guess it's been around 10 years though... I can't remember how old I was since I was pretty young, and I have a bad memory... >.>;;
