"Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Fans of (psycho) horror movies, surround here!
I love to watch horror movies, especially the psycho ones like "The Ring". What are your favorites?
Foreign movies can be mentioned as well. I own a lot of horror movies on DVD from Japan, Korea and China. My atm favorite is Kuchisake Onna (Slith-Mouth Woman).

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
I love horror movies. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. The first one I ever saw was An American Werewolf in London. I was 8 and I saw it on HBO. I remember how excited I was during the day at school knowing that I'd be watching in the evening. I lasted less than 30 minutes. I listened to the rest of the movie with my eyes closed. It was more of a mixture of dread and excitement really. I loved being scared. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre terrified me when I was 11. It looked more like a snuff film than an actual movie. One movie that I'd like to see again is Angel Heart (1987) which starred Mickey Rourke, Robert Deniro and Lisa Bonet. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092563/The movie just flat out gave me the creeps. Nothing really in the way of blood or gore, just atmospheric tension with ominous overtones. Loved it. There's just too many movies to list. I'd like to see what others have to post.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
My first horror movie I ever saw was "Poltergeist". The scene where the boy got choked by the clown puppet was too much for me hehe. I was four or five back then. And then I hated horror movies with giant squids involved. I just got to see one by accident and in the end I got a trauma. It's got better today I think...
Well... After that... with 11, 12 years I started to watch more horror movies. Most teenie ones like "Halloween", "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Friday the 13th", "Scream" and "I know what you did last summer". Then finally with "The Ring" I got addicted to psycho horror and then to J-horror. My favorites are "Ju-On", "Kuchisake onna", "Suicide Circle", "Dark Water", "Neighbour No. 13" and and and and...
I also like the old b/w ones from the 50's, early 60's. "The Village Of The Damned" and "The Innocent" were great.

Ooooo, Poltergeist. Yes. That clown scene was classic. I saw that when I was a young one as well. Though not 4-5 years young. No leftovers went unchecked after that movie.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
I don't like horror movies. And splatter movies are the worst. I'm way too empathic.. I always feel with the things I see 1:1. My daily nightmares are enough to me and exceed any horror movies =_= So horror movies would only be another quite distressing addition. I like certain thrillers and dramas though.

I like Evil Dead and some of the other Bruce Campbell movies. I don't know if they would really be considered "horror" though.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Jacob's Ladder will probably always be my favorite. I would link the scene proving why it's the best scary movie of all time, but it works a lot better in the context of the movie.
I remember Poltergeist II being my first horror movie. This scene destroyed my childhood. That look the thing gives them still haunts my dreams.

Ugh... that scene was really gross.
@Eyes I don't know Hausu but thanks for the tip. It seems very interesting.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
This scene rocks. I haven't seen Poltergeist II in ages. Yikes, that creepy preacher. I absolutely loved Jacob's Ladder, I think I was 16 when it first came out. I still have this on VHS somewhere. Danny Aiello was such a comforting figure. What a disorienting film. Probably didn't help I was under the influence of illicit substances when I first saw this one. Now you've got me wondering which scene you thought makes it the best.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
You're welcome.. I also like "Whispering Corridors 2 - Memento Mori" very much. But it's more of a very emotional lesbian drama with tiny supernatural elements at the end. Maybe not what the hardcore horror freak is looking for @_@ (Don't wanna disappoint anyone) The other ones from the Whispering Corridors (The first one, Wishing Stairs, Voice, and probably also the newest one 'A Blood Pledge') are more like scary horror movies, though.. I saw "Ringu" too and I couldn't sleep well after that. If you're into such stuff, the - emotionally - cruelest one I saw was Dark Water, but then again, I didn't really see many (no expert here ^^*). Another scary one I can think of is A Tale of Two Sisters. They're all asian by the way (Korean / Japanese). Though they made American remakes of Ringu (The Ring) and Dark Water.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Ugh. I don't like American remakes very much. I could just like The Ring and The Grudge because they were done very well. The rest... well... *headshaking* Well, I like the Whispering Corridors 1-3. How many sequels does it have actually? Well, as I said - I've just seen the tree ones. They're not really horror, you're right. I was a bit disappointed but the storyline was still interesting. Anyone here likes the work of Sion Sono? He did "Suicide Circle", "Strange Circus" and "EXTE". I'm going to check more for his works but I can say I admire his work. Especially "Suicide Circle" and its prequel "Noriko's Dinner Table" were awesome. Sono said he would do another sequel but I guess it will take a long time until then.

I just wanted to point that out cause some people do. I've never seen the American ones. The 4th one "A Blood Pledge" was just released in June 2009.. I only saw the first three too.

A Tale of Two Sisters is the scariest horror movie I've ever watched. After watching that one, I couldn't sleep alone for one whole week. I don't watch any horror films after that. I get scared easily...

Uzumaki is really weird and bizarre. Psychedelic horror-fantasy thriller? Drama?.. it's just odd, or, as the movie would depict -> @_@

Ah... Uzumaki... yes, it's very bizarre. Though I prayed for the couple to be able to escape. Hmm... I liked A Tale of Two Sisters. I have to rewatch it again. I can't remember anymore if it was really that horrible.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
The plot was deliberately told very confusingly.. that annoyed me a bit. Seems a common trait in asian movies, sigh. Esp. when you have to read the subtitles so quickly, it's hard to follow the plot with your eyes off the actual picture most of the time. You can or have to rewatch them again at least one time, but that was out of the question for A Tale of Two Sisters for me. Or watch them in your native language. For me it was a very scary movie, similar to Ringu, that prevented me from falling asleep a while. Though emotionally not as brutal as Dark Water, which deeply disturbed me for several days or even weeks. I can't remember. And that is good.

Jacob's journey through "hell". I suppose what I said was a bit arrogant, but I just really love the movie haha.

Yeah, for those of you who love horror movies, it's a great idea to go and watch Jacob's Ladder, as it's one of the best psychological horror movies ever made. If anything, it's close to watching Silent Hill, but it's not. =P
Anyways, for those who are curious, I watched Friday the 13th when I was 4 or 5. It was an experience.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
I like comedic horror films such as Evil Dead II, Return of the Living Dead, Dead Alive, etc. And zombie films in particular. I don't have much of a fascination with zombies outside of movies, but movies about them are just inexplicably entertaining to me. Even pseudo-zombie films like 28 Hours Later. And Black Sheep, which amazingly fused together zombies, vampires, werewolves, and . . . sheep! I also like really old horror films like the original (silent) Nosferatu. And anything by Hitchcock is good, of course. And B-grade stuff from the mid-20th century like The Creature From the Black Lagoon. I think Arsenic and Old Lace is cool as a comedic horror film from that era. In general, I appreciate films that were obviously made on a low-budget. I like low-budget special effects in horror films; I don't like the modern ones that use higher tech special effects to make things look more slickly gruesome. I have a strong appreciation for really basic low-budget "gore" like in Dead Alive, and Black Sheep - you can tell they had fun making those movies.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
I have watched horror, splatter and the like since I was fairly young. I enjoy these movies immensely but they never really scare me. The scenes some people seem to find shocking usually make me grin or laugh. I wish I could see a movie that terrified me. If Hostel, Them, Texas chain saw massacre, Dawn of the dead and their like won't do it, what will? Sigh...
When I was 8 I watched a children’s series I think was called “The magic(al) box”. In one of the episodes a box was opened and several images poured out, including a photo of a sheltie. In retrospect I have no idea why, but in that specific setting I found the image eerie. The start only lasted a couple of seconds.
At age 12-13 I saw 3 movies that I found a little eerie while I watched them: The Fog: The scene where there’s a knock on the door and the guy (don’t remember his name) gets up to open the door. Outside there is only fog and some it seeps into the house. He closes the door and as he does, we see the ghost of “captain Hook” standing behind said door ready to strike.
“Flatliners”: The eerie landscape and the kids they met when flatlining were a bit eerie.
“Invasion of the body snatchers” (1978): the very thought of someone being themselves yet not quite themselves, was eerie. As were the scenes where the Chinese man stated “Wife is better now, much better now” and the ending where Matthew points at her and screeches.
Later I’ve seen “Close encounters” and the scene where the mother shuts the chimney and the aliens unscrew the vent is a little eerie, as was the old guy who says that the sun came down last night and it sang to him.
The twist ending in “The others” and “The sixth sense” was chillingly good, and also the ghosts appearing when the boy fled and hid in his tent.
But these were just right there and then chills. Only at one point has a movie /series given me nightmares. At age 12 I watched either “The winds of war” or “War and remembrance”. In one scene a concentration camp is liberated. Pictures were shown of body piles and skeleton alike people (real) and a woman sitting under a train with glassy eyes. That image scared me. The following night I had a nightmare about those creepy eyes. It woke me up.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Horrors I like (I have probably forgotten some): The Ring 1 & 2 Final destination The Mist The Fog Poltergeist Dead snow Flatliners Evil dead Shaun of the dead Day of the dead 1 missed call The Shining Nightmare on Elm street Children of the corn 1-5 Child’s play 1-5 Phantoms The glow Carrie After midnight Sometimes they come back Tremors 1-4 Fear of the dark the grudge 1 & 2 The 6th sense Slithers Pulse They Ticks Dark water The others Resident evil. Village of the damned. The unknown (Swedish). http://www.cultreviews.com/reviews/the-unknown/Borderland horror / thiller: I know what you did last summer, Scream, The good son, Gothika, Hide and seek, Severance, When a stranger calls. Borderland horror / sci-fi: Invasion of the body snatchers, Nightmare street, The forgotten, Brainscan, Communion, Stay alive Langoliers. Tommyknockers. Pet sematary. I’m not too fond of Asian horror. First of all I hate reading movies and miss out on so much when I have to and so I tend to avoid movies in languages other than Scandinavian or English (and even so I prefer to have subtexts since the speech can be really unclear at times), and second, I often find them confusing, like 1 missed call, which was much better in American version, same for the Grudge.
