This topic hasn't been used for a long while... Well, tomorrow I'm going to watch "The Orphan" and " Carriers" on DVD - I can't wait for it.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
This is a pretty decent Korean horror film. A Tale of Two Sisters (psychological/horror) The storyline is superb and really messes with you. I didn't quite follow it though because I got too scared so I had to use wikipedia to fill in the parts I closed my eye- I mean missed because I was busy doing bench presses. Yeah

Uh... no, did you? It seems only to have four parts - the scenes in the elevator were the final scenes. It was awesome though. Easy to follow... even without subtitles - I wish they could make this into a real movie, too. I love Yuurei.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Uhh..Lets see I'm a fan of campy horror movies such as the Evil Dead series and Drag Me to Hell. I enjoy zombie flicks such as Dawn of the Dead (I liked both), 28 Days Later, and Zombieland (not really horror). I like psychological thrillers such as the Others but I haven't really explored the genre very much. I'll look into some of these movies and I think I'll check out Jacob's Ladder first.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Woo horror!
I'm a big horror fanatic; psychological, zombie, ghost, serial killer, foreign, werewolves, vampires, occasionally witches (The Blair Witch was interesting), campy 80's flick like The Evil Dead, 90's college-themed slashers, horror comedies you name it!
Foreign flicks really interest me though; Kairo (the original Pulse) is probably one of my favorite movies, but I also highly enjoyed the first [REC] for Spain. Zombies are another big favorite of mine, top contenders would have to be 28 Days Later (although technically not zombies) and the first Dawn of the Dead
Although recently I've been watching things like the Saw series (which I've not actually seen all of), 30 Days of Night, and the AvP series (for shits and giggles)

Can't go wrong there. I highly recommend it. One of the best psychological horror films ever made.

The most recent horror film I've seen is, The Strangers, which wasn't that great. Oh also I saw the remake of Friday The 13th. That was pretty good actually. I used to be really into my horror films, but recently not so much.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
I thought it did it's job of tension and surprise jumps; kind of an artsy fartsy serial killer movie. Also, to anyone who likes/has an interest in horror movies from Asia, the site www.asian-horror-movies.com/ (original right?) hosts a lot of them, and they're for free. Just click the movie list button near the top right

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
Another here who enjoyed 'A Tale of Two Sisters'.
The most iconic horror movies to me are without a single doubt the Alien series with the exception of ressurection. I watched and rewatched those movies more than any other and I could still put them on today and not be bored of it. Henriksen as Bishop, Charles Dance as Clemens and of course Sigourney Weaver as Ripley. Ian Holm was simply perfect as well.
My dad would always buy movies like Maniac Cop and made sure we watched them. I watched all sorts of stuff, from Flatliners, to Re-Animator and I have to agree with Ivory Pomegranate; Horror films have lost alot of the charm they had and replaced it with rather hollow cg effects. And, that isn't just notalgia speaking! (I think)
Take for example the British made film 'The Descent'. I was really enjoying the psychological horror aspects of a group of frightened people trapped in an abyss, terrified and hallucinating imagined threats. But after about 45 minutes into the film it suddenly shifts and changes into a bit of a silly monster movie. I can't help thinking that I would have liked the ending better if they had just played off the breaking emotional state of the characters than introducing a new physical threat. Contrary to the cheap scares that the supernatural monsters introduced, I actually found the most tense part of the film was when they had to climb across a fissured section of the cave. Simple yet effective.

I saw the Spanish horror film REC recently. I avoided Quarantine, the American re-make. Fantastic!

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
^ I watched Quarantine a few months ago. Don't watch it, worst horror movie I have ever seen. It had some suspense, but it was hardly scary and the ending was extremely lame. I'm not surprised at all that REC is better, it actually looks pretty good. I recently watched part of Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman. I didn't finish it because it really wasn't that scary, kind of amateurish actually. I was interested in at after learning about the legend of Kuchisake-onna. Basically, she died hundreds of years ago. She was suppose to be extremely beautiful, but her husband, thinking that she was cheating on him, killed her, cutting slits on the side of her mouth. Now she comes back as a ghost with a pair of sheers, wearing a surgical mask to cover her face, and out to prey on little children. If you're unfortunate enough to run into her, she'll ask you, "do you think I'm pretty?" If you say yes, she'll remove her mask and ask, "do you still find me pretty?" If you say yes again, she'll cut your face, to make you "pretty" like her. If you say no, she'll kill you. If you attempt to run away, she'll kill you. You really can't win. This guy actually tells the story pretty well:

I loved Kuchisake-onna. Not the best movie but still entertaining to me. And also this legend is really great. Wish we had such cool legends.

Naked Blood. I can't think anything as gross as some scenes from it.
My favorites are Jacob's ladder, May, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Hellraiser: Inferno, Book of blood, Orphan, The Exorcist, Stephen King's It, A Tale of Two Sisters, Stay Alive and Silent Hill.

A few off the top of my head would The Thing,The Excorcist and The Birds.
The Shining is a brilliant film. All of Kubrick's stuff is great and most of it is terrifying in some way, even if they aren't prototypical horror films.

I'd almost forgotten about Suspiria, great movie. Ever like a horror film that you know you probably shouldn't? I get that way with the movie Troll and House I & II.

Re: "Here's Johnny" - The HORROR MOVIES topic
my new favorite thread… Here's one that hasn't been suggested before: The Ruins. It's a teenage horror flick, but very original. I found the character of Amy very touching, and very well done. Good acting all around. There is a scene with some mild sexual content that was just tragic, and very beautiful. I was just completely pulled in after a somewhat slow start and for that I was thankful.
