The film's violence is cartoonish in nature. It's a fun movie.

 Re: Favorite filmmakers
Vincent Gallo is a hero of mine. I second David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, Werner Herzog, David Cronenberg, and Jean Luc Godard.
I will also add Harmony Korine as another favorite. I actually met him at the Toronto Film Festival for his premiere of Mister Lonely and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Gummo and Julien Donkey Boys are films that must be watched at least once. The man has a vision like no other. Michael Haneke is brilliant as well. Naked and The Piano Teacher were films that stayed with me for such a long time after I viewed them.
Miike is a machine and he's pretty crazy, but in a good way. Ichi the Killer, Fudoh, Visitor Q, Gozu, and Sukiyaki Western Django were fantastic.
Shohei Imamura (Takashi Miike's mentor). The Eel is amazing.

 Re: Favorite filmmakers
The Coen Brothers (No Country for Old Men) Kathryn Ann Bigelow (Finally ever since it won the academy awards, The Hurt Locker has been getting some attention.) It's animation but Pixar and Hayao Miyazaki have made some of my favorites.

 Re: Favorite filmmakers
HitchcockThe master of suspense. Its hard to watch his movies as they are 4:3 and B&W, but everytime I watch one I glimpse moviemaking genius. Quentin TarantinoCoolest, baddest m-fucker auteur filmmaker of our time, nuff said Studio GhibliIt baffles me that in this world of greed, abuse & corruption, there exists a Miyazaki or Takahata. Where when you watch any of the studio's films, you see so much good - such pure, untainted good flowing from the core of the heart. Tis' a genuine and rare thing these days. (e.g. opening montage of "Whisper of the Heart" with the John Denver track) Park Chan Wook"JSA, Vegeneace trilogy, Cyborg, Thirst" -greatest Korean director ever fosho Ryuhei KitamuraHis debut "Versus" is a viceral, kinectic rolling thunder of an action extravaganza go watch it now and pick your jaw up off the carpet later Zack Synder"Sucker Punch" sucked but his movies have the most balletic, exquisite slo-mo montage sequences that puts the viewer in a dream-like trance state The Wachowskis"The Matrix" is a revolutionary cultural & technological landmark which has influenced endless action movies ever since Luc BessonMovies often unrealistically portray the hitman role to be flashy and invincible. Nikita & Leon brought the bitter & the bleak out of the role. Besson also wrote & produced the Taxi (funny as fuck) & Transporter (cool as an ice cube) films. Not to mention Yamakasi and Banlieue 13 - which are the hottest shit if you've heard of parkour
