That snake paining is nice.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo is cool. He was a 16th century painter who was forgotten after his death but rediscovered by the surrealists much later. I bought a copy of his "Earth" because I like it so much.

I found a lot I like in this thread, especially Goya was nice. I like his style of painting humans, as well as the darkness in his paintings.

I also liked Twilight in the Wilderness which Chair linked. "Virgin auto-sodomized by her own chastity" or whatever it's called is cool too. I once saw it in a book and remembered it because it's so unique and erotic.

Dali was such a creepy perv.

Based on the art posted in this thread I picked out the three pieces I like the most. I already bought a framed Arcimboldo's "Earth" print but I'm thinking about getting copies of the other two as well. They look nice together imo.

Ofc some people may argue it's a little gaudy using gold frames and no mats for prints, but in this case I prefer it to using mats + modern frames.

Caravaggio made hot gay looking guys. I love this one.

I looked at that artist's paintings. They're mostly very nice.

This has to be my favorite painting in the whole world. Narcissus by Caravaggio.
The man from greek mythology who fell in love with his own reflection.
It's from Caravaggio's more "magic" influenced transition period in the late 16th century.
It could represent the reality for a pathological narcissist.
A world of darkness and emptiness, a void, where you're locked in an eternal cycle
staring at your own reflection. On a side note, I even look a lot like Narcissus in that painting imo.



Paired with Narcissus, the Lord of Darkness, I want Rembrandt's meditating philosopher
which I also give a metaphorical meaning.
The winding stairway represents the dark corridors of the mind, a world which exists beyond reality,
and the old man meditating by the light which is breaking through the window is a spiritual guide or conscience
who's waiting at the doorstep of enlightenment.
Maybe Narcissus will find his way here eventually and leave the human world behind for good.
