I don't know if this counts, but: http://www.luisroyo.com/ (Might or might not be NSFW) There's a little button on the top right corner of the homepage where you can change the language if you want.

Peter Max. Also, Aillas: I just realized something about those cats drawings you always post. I always thought they looked really familiar somehow until one had reminded me of this drawing of a cat I really liked (and for some reason always stood out to me) in an abnormal psychology textbook I had. It had this feature showing schizophrenia through artwork- I just now realized it was the same schizophrenic cat drawer when I looked it up. Probably one of the more interesting wiki's I've read about an artist actually. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_WainWhat's the book you have on him?

 Re: Post your favorite artworks
It's funny that you say that because some of Louis Wain's art is familiar to me as well and I just "discovered" him late last year, yet I've known some of his art for years. I'm not quite sure where I've seen his art before, but something tells me that people here or on another forum have used his art as avatars before. If not that, I might have seen it on Tumblr. Louis Wain's Cats. I believe it's the most comprehensive Louis Wain art book ever published. I "discovered" Louis Wain late last year when browsing through art books online. I stumbled across Louis Wain's Cats and liked the book's description. I then Googled "Louis Wain" and liked his art, so I thought I'd go through with buying it. It's a great art book, especially for the price.

 Re: Post your favorite artworks
Ever since I've first seen the following picture I've been mildly obsessed with it. I found it in an art book at the public library when I was ~14 years old. I forgot about it for years to come. Remembering it once at a later point in time I was unable to figure out how to find it and gave up on it soon. Yet some years after that I remembered it again and I also remembered that it had shown Psyche. With that knowledge it was easy of course, I successfully searched the web for the picture. You may find it awfully cheesy, but there is an incredible tension between the two portrayed figures which I have rarely seen in other works of art.

 Re: Post your favorite artworks
Hum, i don't see the tension between characters . The way i see it, she's in the middle of nature, in a safe environment, the scenery, the butterfly and the nudity represent it. The nudity is allusive to sex, desire, but it is shown in a frail and innocent way, the purity of her look, her white clean skin, her clothes and arranged hair. She is definitely a lady. She looks worried, troubled, confused, slightly afraid. I get this from the vague look in her eyes, her slightly crossed legs and the way she holds her body and her hand/arm. Perhaps she is discovering sexuality, or sexuality is being shown to her... It almost feels she is being forced into nudity against her will. The Angel, whom she cannot see, feel, but perhaps sense, is simply there to comfort her, close, so close, and yet he's not even able to touch her, even his left hand is not touching her as we can see by the lack of shadow. And as angels have no sex, and are mystical and pure creatures... he's not there for desire but for pure love or devotion. I forgot to add-> to protect her. Don't get mad, just the way i see it. @Aillas, i was listening to your Elvis track and seeing the cat illustrations... man what a combination, from a smile to a laugh in 2 secs. They remind me of an incredibly complex children's book i had when i was a kid. Dressed talking animals living in mini houses in the forest, in adult like stories.

 Re: Post your favorite artworks
it's not an angel it's Cupid. the myth about Psyche and Cupid is that she was prophesied to be the bride of a monster whom gods nor men can resist. after her parents leave her at the monsters palace she finds out that her "husband" (they didn't have a wedding at this point) will only come to visit her for a few hours in the dead of night, and all his attendants in the palace are invisible. she's the only person she sees. at first Psyche is cool with this but eventually her sisters come visit and are filled with envy at Psyche's riches so they plant doubts and worries in Psyche's mind about what her husband could be, since he was supposed to be a monster. this is probably the time period in the myth this painting is about. she'd never seen her husband at this point before, and doesn't know who or what he is.

 Re: Post your favorite artworks
Ahhh i think i remember that one: the "Monster" is actually cupid (the kid in the painting) And psyche pulls some magical shenanigans to be able to see him, and when she does she is stunned at how beautiful he is (Cupid is the son of Eros after all) And she's happy at knowing that he is his husband, Cupid however is hurt and feels angry and betrayed at Psyche having done that behind his back (i think he though he was ugly, but i'm pretty sure it wasn't the case) and then, if memory doesn't fail me, he "divorces" Psyche and leaves the palace with his servants, leaving her alone. ... You know, it's amazing how tragic and depressing are the outcomes of a lot of couples in greek myths, this shit is more depressing than EVA .

 Re: Post your favorite artworks
Very interesting indeed, the left one remembers me of the things I used to draw when I was about 16. I couldn't identify those as Dix works immediately, especially the right one seems unusual. The title of the second picture is intriguing, too. Apparently it's called "Suicide Victim". That sounds like an oxymoron to me. However it can seldomly be told who named a picture, many artists have not given their pictures names and the names were applied to them later for galleries or selling purposes. I wonder what the silhouette means. Is that supposed to be the ghost of the "victim"? What do you like about these pictures? The tension is definitely there. It's between the characters upper bodies. The precise moment which is being shown and forever frozen makes the approaching of Cupid eternal, while she remains untouched and seemingly unaware of his presence for all eternity. There is a lot of caring in his posture, I can hardly discover anything sexual in it. The tension mainly emanates from his hands and his obvious intention to touch her, he is the active part, she is the passive counterpart, which is being underlined further by his dynamic as opposed to her stiff posture (compare their legs as well). While his look focusses on her, she gazes into the air, at nothing. The only gesture which might be interpreted as a certain kind of awareness is her hands holding the upper part of her body beneath her heart as if having a faint idea of what is actually happening and reaching out at her. In that both characters hands embody and echo the symbolic meaning of the picture. At least that is what I see. By the way, the fact that they are naked doesn't necessarily imply that anything sexual is going on. Greek and latin mythology characters are frequently being shown naked in all and the most inappropriate kinds of situations, but in the end it lies in the eye of the beholder of course.

So epic. A shame the braghettoni had to mar it though. The ultimate humanist painting right here. This is clearly a sick mind at work, but fascinating nonetheless.
