Post Re: Do you talk to yourself or to inanimate objects?
I've noticed that I tend to self-deprecate quite often when talking to myself. Which seems odd to me because I do not feel I have low self esteem. Many times when I am playing a game and lose, break something, drop something, trip/fall/accidentally hit something, I will say something like, "Oh come on, you fucking idiot!", "christ you piss me off!!", "oh my god what a STUPID fucking thing to do!!" etc. What's interesting to me is that until recently, I never considered that maybe I was directing these exclamations at myself.

^ pretty similar to me. All the time..

My "conversations" are mostly like: "Yeahhhh, brilliant idea. As if this wasn't obvious.." - "Oh, shut the hell up idiot." (in english, indeed).
Sometimes, I try to suppress the urge and this ends in stumbling some parts of words or barely human noises leaving my throat.. :idiot

Nevertheless, I fully approve of Hiki's post here. Everyone got their own way to deal with stress and I guess, it's all perfectly fine as long as it works.

I curse inanimate objects frequently. They are always jutting out of places, falling off sofas or just generally being in the way; if not so far out of the way that I can't find the fucking thing anymore.

Nah, it's what FONE said. I'm telling myself off for not being able to find the thing in the hope that somebody will hear me and help me out a little. :zip Emotional manipulation in a way.

I talk to stuffed animals and reply in their own individual voices I gave them. I subconsciously gave them different personalities, too. I have been doing this since I was a small child and I can't shake doing it even at 26. Hell, my best friend is my Kenshin doll.

Sometimes...
Before I do, I make sure no one is around. ;)

A lot of the stuff in this thread made me laugh, but this made me lmao cause I do that frequently. Sometimes it feels like everything is working against me and sometimes I even wonder if objects really aren't inanimate. o.o Sometimes they seem to "fall" or "get in the way" with an air of intelligence, if you know what I mean.

I do often talk to myself... mostly, it's to prepare myself for something, or when trying to solve a problem. It'll start in my head and then gradually end up being an aloud conversation with myself. I do also do the self deprecating thing mentioned before.

I enjoy creating arguments in my head.

It doesn't have to be based on a real-life situation either, everything can be fine between me and another person; but in my head I'll sometimes think about that person accusing me of doing something and I'll play out this whole argument in my head. At times it's affected me in real-life afterwards and I'll be in a funny mood for no reason at all.

Often it will stem from having past arguments with that person, but still makes little sense as to why I do it in the first place. This doesn't really count as physical conversation with myself, but aside from that; yes I do talk physically to both myself and inanimate objects.

I cannot remember if I replied to this thread or not.

:P Hell yeah, I find that talking to myself is the best way to come up with solutions to problems. Plus I find it helps keep normal people away from me when I don't want anyone around.

I usually have conversations with myself, it's kind of odd, it's a mixture of... well, i actually talk to someone who is kind of a character in a story or an alternate personality, but i'm completely aware of everything (which is to say i don't have a dissociative personality condition). It's kind of like Fight Club (sorry) but i tend to converse/discuss with various personalities (usually just one and me at a time though) each one of them representing something or having certain attributes characteristic to that personality/character (like in a novel one would be ruthless, another one cynical, another idealistic, another one existential... You get the idea).

Ps. do any of you writers or filmakers or others do this? i sometimes wonder if that is characteristic of people who make sequential art.

I don't talk to myself, or much at all. But I do have a strange sympathetic relationship with inanimate objects. Probably from watching 'The Brave Little Toaster' as a kid.

I actually do something sorta' similar. I imagine myself conversing with someone in my head, but I never have them respond. It helps me think clearly. But, I'm neither a filmmaker or writer--a poet if anything.

I talk to myself quite a bit. Actually, when I learn new stuff I usually have a conversation with myself to cement the knowledge.

I talk to myself often, and I have on occasion muttered to various objects, like my laptop or cell phone (when not actually using it).

Often, actually.
Probably because I feel alone all the time, even when I'm not alone.
But I've also got a high level of concentration and focus, so I probably do it sometimes without even realizing it.

Another funny thing:
When I'm mad, I tend to mumble curses at random objects, followed by some other stuff not fitting the criteria of actual language.. It works however.

I will occasionally narrate my thoughts, but I've never engaged in conversation with myself or inanimate objects.

I talk to myself. A lot.

When I had a small apartment, it would weird out my roommate a bit. I'd go outside on a smoke break and pace around or just zen out by myself. If I had no pressing issues to think or rant about, I liked reading books aloud to myself and thinking about them aloud. It clears by head a bit. When I drove/had a car, I always did it there, too. Now that I live in Europe and walk everywhere, I don't want to look insane, haven't done it in a while. I probably should though.

I miss those.

Sometimes I talk to myself while I'm cooking.
... Maybe not to forget about ingredients or such.
Or I talk to the fridge like: "I wonder what's still in there... Let it be ice cream!"
Or I talk to messages on my phone like "Stupid xyz!" or "Call me, bastard!"
