Post Re: Did you like school?
As a child I loved school - hard to believe because I absolutely fucking hated it during secondary school. Didn't have that many friends, didn't really feel like I fitted in. I had classes that I loved English, Art, Music, Drama - other than that I thought it was boring, pointless. I dropped out when I was 17 because my grades had went downhill, greatly, and I also didn't give a fuck anymore.

:unsure. It is really hard to say, to be honest. I mean yes I despised it back in elementary school when I was bullied merciless. I cannot say I enjoyed middle school too much either :unsure, buried am not sure if that was the schools fault or if that was more my dad.

High school I did not exist... seriously itwas like I had just moved to the state. At first it was annoying. However, once I got myself established things got better.

College was awesome because I was on my own..

So I am not sure what to give as my answer :unsure

I answered here before, but I'm going to break it down like Reiji has done.

Elementary (Kindergarten to grade five):
I immensely enjoyed school as a child. Truth be told, learning was hard during grades one and two due to poor parenting involvement and my hatred for reading. When I switched schools in third grade, I had an amazing teacher who helped me discover my love for reading and writing. I can thank my third and fourth grade teachers for my lust for literature and knowledge today.

Middle (grade six to eight):
Not as enjoyable, but it was during this time I began socializing outside of school. I mainly focused on the aesthetic appeal of my projects rather than the knowledge.

High school (grade nine to twelve):
The beginning of high school was alright. It got progressively worse grade eleven onwards. The higher pressures and depression really got to me and my academics suffered greatly. I could have been something else, but my mental health wouldn't allow me that opportunity. It was a time filled with regret I still have troubles letting go. There are definite scars, but plenty of smiles as well.

I met my best friends during middle school and gained some close friends in high school as well. University was difficult with my struggle with my mental health.

Being out of school for a good ten months now, I can honestly say I miss it and itch to be in a classroom again. I know I said it didn't suit me, but since it's the only system I know, I still want it. Does that even make sense?

I just miss learning. Interacting, learning and discussing with peers. I miss school for more reasons than just the classroom.

I can agree, with Althe I miss learning as well.. well only having to worry about learning. As opposed to learning because my Jon depends on it. I guess that is why I have such a hard time teaching myself stuff.

I'm pretty much the opposite...I'm great at learning on my own about all sorts of subjects, but the moment learning means sitting in a giant terrible building all day doing busywork and hanging around with people who hate me, my brain just shuts down. I can honestly say 85% of what I know is self-taught/was taught to me by my grandmother at my own pace.

I wish I was a self-learner mementomori. I love learning, but when it comes to subjects that have a remote disinterest to me, I find it hard to actually motivate myself to continue learning it. I need a teacher figure to kind of kick me to learn and guide me through the trouble spots.

For subjects I enjoy like literature and history, I willingly do on my own.

But no matter how intelligent we are, it's hard to get a job without that piece of paper "proving" you "know" what it states you should know.

I know, man, it's that piece of paper that kills me. :'(

@mementomori:I meant learning for the purpose of my job. I can r teach myself stuff I am interested in relatively well. It is when I have to learn for my job. Then I have trouble learning. mainly because I have to learn on top of mindless busy work. I also miss the days of just having to learn. But then I remember how poor I was. That feeling passes quickly.

Still in school, but looking at it in a past tense, it wasn't my favorite thing to do.I liked the library and always went to read. Everything else i hated. The atmosphere itself could make me sick.

I'm enjoying school now. It's nice to have motivation to actually complete high school..I just wish it had come earlier before I was supposed to graduate. A semester or two plus summer school and I'll finally be out.

Right I'm enjoying school more because I enjoy physics and programming. Programming is done but it drove me to actually learn some skills I need, plus now I've been learning more and more about the language I want to learn.

I envy that Aconcit, you should make the most of it whilst you can; it makes things much easier. I regret that my desire to complete school fizzled out completely about a year before the finish. Even with grades I would have been thoroughly dissatisfied with, it would have been a step towards goals that I couldn't have predicted that I would want.

I can relate to that in a way, as I don't know what I want to do yet. That and the waste of my life for the past two or three years makes me wonder what I'd be doing now if I had put that time to good use. You're right though, I'm sure most people never have as much free time as they did before college and it's best to make it worth while.

At the beginning, it was good. However, it got worse with each level. So pre-school was pretty fun with activities like arts and crafts and friendly teachers. High school/college were shadowy hells of depression, anxiety, and self-loathing.

I liked it up until the 2nd grade I believe. I didn't actually have a problem with the school work or the teachers (in fact I actually considered the teachers my "friends" because I didn't have any my age.) The one thing that infuriated me though was that smug Social worker who said to me the next day after I would skip school "Glad to see you're back today" and eventually she started saying "You know, if you keep missing so many days, both you and your mother could get in trouble." just picturing her say those words fills me with anger to this day, if only she knew that each day was torture.

I liked parts of it that involved breaking rules and messing about. Yes. Doing German class while stoned was funny. Other parts were just a boring blur. I never remembered any of my lessons or did homework and I was truant a lot. All my parents cared about were the grades. Everyone's happy.

I literally hated it from kindergarten to high school.
I hated it so much in kindergarten my mom let me wait another year to go since my birthday is Dec 23 i could be class of '09 or '10. And i hated it so much in high school that i dropped out (initially) my senior year.

But if i manage to get into college i don't think i'd mind it so much now =D

Fuck no! Some of primary school was alright, because the teachers were actually cool and made learning interesting (as it should be) and I have fond memories of that time. Before and after that time was shite though. I think secondary school is what decimated the majority of my braincells :mad
