Is there any cause for your depression?

Genetic predisposition.

I'm sure my depression is caused by lack of friends, lack of loved ones, lack of understanding, lack of a life, etc.

Both genetic and environment.

i think its because i have yet to find anyone who really "gets" me and who i feel totally at ease with. i have many people (including family and friends) who understand and relate to different parts of me, but never the whole package. this coupled with relentless dissatisfaction with myself. nothing is ever good enough, i am never settled.

I don't understand where it comes from at all. Anytime I make friends I'll withdraw. I'm sure it's due to a personality disorder or something.

I really don't think there is a reason but I do feel a lot of hurt from not being able to be with the guy that I love. Distance sucks, you know? But I think my depression is more of a bored thing. I have no idea, I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder which includes bipolar features so I guess it's just part of that.

Life is the cause of my depression. I value things that society is against, and I hate almost everything that society values. It was like I was born opposite to the norms, or just raised that way. Most likely the latter.

It also doesn't help that its difficult to talk to people, and due to that, I have few people to communicate with on my interests. It really is just a perpetuating circle of melancholy. I really don't mean to come off as a stuck up elitist jackass. I have just grown tired of mundane conversations that I truly have no interest in. I talk to people, but am not truly engaged with most of them. I hate how sex dominates over 60% of conversations, and most conversations never actual produce anything of substance. BLAHHHHH....

Most likely biological. I think I have less happy brain cells than others. They keep dying off.

Stupid critters are born with more happy brain cells. Thus they are more immune to the realization that life, work, society, etc. is completely pointless. I wish I'd been born as a sea snail. Then I'd be happy. I think I need a lobotomy.

The guy that I love ignores me 100% now. That depresses me to no end, especially since he said he would never ignore me and he'd love me forever. But that's what I get for depending on someone for 3 years.

Well said. i also have appearance issues i'm working on. Genetics, stress, relationships. i have a weak soul, so i'm susceptible to anything negative in my environment (if that makes any sense)

I know exactly how you feel. If things don't go my way, I tend to fall into a depression. I have a very fragile ego.

Wonderfully said. The more 'in-tune' you are with the reality of things, the more likely you are to be miserable, it seems. What an unsettling feeling to know that everything in existence is pointless!

Causes.. Don't know about genetics or anything like that. I think entirely too much. I'm an old loser who spends the majority of his life in an 8X10 prison that I call my room. You put the pieces together. Gah.

Sometimes sentience is a curse.

There is no point to life except to survive yet we are faced with very few survival situations and life is boring with little to do. Accomplishments feel irrelevant in the grand scheme and adventure doesn't exist on an interesting scale. I feel like a tame dog with no need for instincts.

1. I can't socialize with people without feeling intense anxiety, which makes it totally unjustifiable for me to bother.
2. Because of #1, I've wasted the past 6 years doing little more than surf the net (how much can you do when you're stuck in a building?).
3. Because of #1, I've not formed IRL friendships or fallen in love with anyone.
4. I feel I could have potential, but due to the aforementioned, am very afraid that I may never overcome my problems and that my dreams will never come true.

A terrible cycle of anxiety, feeling like a failure and getting anxious over it, feeling bad that I feel bad...

1. being a failure
2. Everyone that I care about is watching me fail
3. I'm socially inept and very self conscious of it, so it really limits what I'm confident enough to do or not do (getting a 'simple' cashier job)
4a. not having a job
4b. because I'm afraid to get a job I'm mooching off my dad
5. going to college with no idea of what I want to major in
6a. feeling like even though I'm running, I'm not going anywhere. (kind of like those jackasses that run in place while they wait to cross the street)
6b. not knowing what I want to do with my life
7. not seeing anything changing for the better anytime soon
8. having my family pressuring me to get my life on track and not being able to show them any progress
9. being alone
10. being mediocre and everything I do
