Post Re: Music in Different Languages
im listening to english and german music, but more english of course since i cannot think of many good german bands :P

i like japanese music too but theres very very few japanese music i want to listend to. most is even worse than our german music but i love the acoustic traditional music of japan. there was a band of japanese drummers in germany called "yamato" where i was at concert and it was freakin awesome i directly bought the cd after the show was over. really relaxing and pure music.

other than that i dont listend to much other languages music since i dont get a word anyways

most of the music i listen to that has come out in the last 20 years is japanese. i don't understand most of it but i usually don't pay too much attention to the lyrics in english songs unless they grab me with their brilliance.. so i guess it's not the end of the world.

i've also been getting big into brazilian bossa nova and samba-rock from the 60's and 70s lately. maybe some french a la serge gainsbourg but other than that it's mostly english music.

When it comes to Japanese music, I've only been exposed to Jpop, which I detest. Since 99% of pop doesn't appeal to me, I naturally can't help but despise it. It doesn't matter if pop is sung in a foreign language - it still sucks to me.

I mean "pop" in the usual way - not as in "popular" music.

just checked out your last.fm page and we've got a "VERY HIGH" music compatibility so maybe i can give you some japanese music recommendations! if you're interested let me know :P

I prefer music without lyrics. Usually ambient electronic "lounge" music which creates a mood, like for a showroom or something, nothing more. I also like simple, wordless folkmusic, chanting and sometimes just drumming. I also like different sounds like the wind, boiling water, washing machines, particles colliding and rain against the rooftops.

Music overall doesn't play a big part in my identity. Healthy food, workout, clothes, and interior design, are all more important for my lifestyle and what characterizes me.

I'm not much into movies either. I'll watch anything that's a bit surreal, melancholic and atmospheric. Same goes for music usually.

You could say I'm an extreme minimalist in fields where the majority of people aren't, but at the same time I focus more in other fields. My life philosophy is a mix of misantrophy, primitive spiritualism and transhumanism. Dehumanized but at the same time in tune with nature and the ancient forces of the cosmos.

I used to listen to a lot of Japanese music; I was obsessed with Dir en grey for ages when I was around fifteen. That was back when I was going through my Japanophile phase. Most of the stuff I listened to though is utterly cringeworthy to me now, apart from Dir en grey. I can listen to them and still recognise them to be good musicians.

The only foreign music I listen to these days is Rammstein.

My music collection is mostly in English. Other languages:
- German: Rammstein and Lacrimosa, my Kraftwerk CDs are English language editions.
- Swedish: Finntroll
- Estonian: Metsatöll
- Polish: Zaraza
- Japanese: Ghost in the Shell soundtrack (don't remember the composer).
- and of course Finnish: too many to list here, no metal bands, though.

Spanish or Latin, French, German medieval-esque music. Some Japanese, but not a whole lot.

I hardly listen to English music anymore.

I used to listen to quite a few non-English metal bands, but I'm not much into metal anymore.

Some of the only non-English music I listen to these days is Nico, but not many of her songs aren't sung in English.

Here are a couple of her songs that are sung in German:

Nico - Abschied

Nico - Das Lied Oder Deutschen

Post Re: Music in Different Languages
I do have albums and songs by bands from Japan (Boris, Cornelius, Number Girl, Nagisa Ni Te and Mad Capsule Markets are just afew I can think of) as well as a scattering of artists from other countries. Most of it is quite Westernised but I still find it quite enjoyable. I would say that a good portion of the albums I own are in English.
After listening to the Tropicalia and Brazil 70 compilations, I really wish I had more music from South America as I quite like bossa nova and samba styles.

The main tune only starts at 3:20 and doesn't last long enough in my opinion. I feel I should be doing some mad footballing skills on a beach in Rio when I listen to this.

Balladen om Morgan Kane / The ballad of Morgan Kane

Lyrics: (for some reason one verse is omitted from this version but this version is so cool that I wanted to use this instead of the original. The verse starting with "Texas Rangers hadde bruk for nettopp ham" isn't part of this version, I only added it so you guys can read the entire song)

Balladen om Morgan Kane

Født i 1855 ved Santa Fe
Knuste vogntog var det første han fikk se
Kastet inn i verdens harde virkelighet
Der en guttesjel blir dømt til ensomhet
Morgan Kane var hans navn

Langt der vest må hver mann lære selvforsvar
Vil du leve må du holde våpenet klar
Flere stater, halve landet sto i brann

Mange kvinner søkte lykken i hans favn
Bare én av dem fikk retten til hans navn
I hans skygge er det sand der intet gror
En jaget mann får aldri blomster i sitt spor
Morgan Kane var hans navn

(Texas Rangers hadde bruk for nettopp ham

Translation:

The ballad of Morgan Kane

Born in 1855 by Santa Fe
Wrecked carriages were the first he got to see
Thrown into the harsh reality of the world
Where a boy soul is doomed to loneliness
Morgan Kane was his name

There long west each man must learn self-defence
If you want to live you have to keep you weapon ready
Several states, half the country was afire
The rumors flew the day the boy became a man
Morgan Kane was his name

Many killers wanted to try his reputation
Vultures gathered by cold dawn
Silent they sat there watching the game of death
At sunset the clang of shovels was heard from Boot Hill
Morgan Kane was his name

Many women sought happiness in his arms
Only one of them won the right to his name
In his shadow is sand where nothing grows
A hunted man will never have flowers in his tracks
Morgan Kane was his name

(Texas Rangers had use for just him
Young, hard men from across the country
Only the weapons he used became his friend
This made him most lonely among men
Morgan Kane was his name)

His skills he sold at last
The marshall star gave him a little delay
But to create peace with violence is never easy
A revolver man has made his own right
Morgan Kane was his name

Even a man of the law can carry a dream
Of peace and home, another life, so don’t judge
One who kills, even in the name of the law, must die
This certainty never stops bleeding
Morgan Kane was his name
Morgan Kane was his name

I am, admittedly, a massive weeaboo, so of course I have buckets of nauseating pop and techno. <3

Also listen to music in German, Sweedish, lots and lots of French, Spanish, lots of Russian...probably others too.

I think the "oddest" language I have on my list is contributed by n.A.T.o., a project by the guy who produced t.A.T.u. She sings in Tajik and Uzbek sometimes, notably in her hit Be Umide. I think she's actually Russian, but it's still interesting to see a famous song pop up that's in one of those Central Asian languages.

...I think it's evident how Russian she actually is by the fact that all the typing in the video is in Russian. lol

Black metal from Italy. Lyrics are in Latin, and they're about orcs battling humans in the Tolkien universe. Pretty badass.

ˆ That was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be lol. I liked the melodic parts...

Ok… this shouldn't be out of place now. Here's Pepa Flores aka Marisol, a former child star turned actress turned singer, a famed and respected recluse and basically the voice and the face of the 60's in Spain.

Image

The song is about a woman who's in jail for life for killing her husband, who used to beat her. The song is a letter to the man she truly loves, who she's never gonna see, and she's just angry, more than anything. I like how the song is more acted out than sung, and that's about it.

I listened to this song on the radio, just so you can comprehend how old this is.
Besides, they should have a shitty production quality because they are pinko starving artists singing about peace. :p

@syc: those songs you posted are awesome! I'm going to have get one of their CDs when I place my next order at Amazon. de. It's totally my kind of music.

As for me, I listen to lots of different kinds of music in English, German, French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, Russian, Latin, Greek, and Japanese.
