This documentary was on PBS & is called "Today's Man." This was one of the first things that made me think I could have Asperger's Syndrome (later, a therapist asked me if I had ever been diagnosed which made me wonder even more). Even though this guy is less-functioning than me in a lot of ways, he's also higher functioning than me in others, but I could still see a lot of myself in him. Here's a clip from YouTube:

Does anyone know how to get a hold of this documentary? l've searched around and found no online viewing or torrent downloads. l would pay for it, but l don't have that kind of money right now.

I recently watched The Suicide Tourist and William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe on pbs.

The Suicide Tourist was interesting but I found the second more to my liking.

The future is wild

Earth - the power of the planet

Naked science (unfortunately some of the episodes were BS but the good ones were interesting if speculative. I don't mind speculative 'documentaries' but I think the show should clearly be one way or the other, not mix them wildly)

There was a nice one about red sprites and blue jets, but I can't recall the name of the documentary.

That was cool but a lot of wild guessing IMO

Engineering an Empire was a really great series.

And everybody should see War on Drugs, War on Ourselves. I wonder if that's online somewhere. If not I should post it.

Small Town Ecstasy

A documentary about a 40 year old divorced father of four who starts taking
ecstasy and going to raves with his 18 year old son.
Custody battles, drug arrests, teary-eyed children, good times..

Click here for parent of the year.

Enron, The Smartest Guys in the Room - it's about Enron (surprisingly enough) and how the people at the top tried to stay above the law all those years.
China Blue - documentary on sweatshop conditions in China following the journey of a 14 y.o. girl.
The Corporation - since the corp is legally a 'person', this doc tries to analyze and diagnose it as one.
Earth 2100 - slightly dramatized version of what will happen if we continue to rape the environment but still a fun watch.
In Debt We Trust - about how debt woes plague Americans and about 'morally questionable' practices of lenders such as credit card companies (made before financial meltdown).

Yes of course. But I don't think it ever claimed to be anything but speculative. I found it very imaginative. Some of the creatures were so great it nearly pained me that they weren't real! That show inspired me.

The documentary I mentioned earlier, Prehistoric Park, is also very speculative. It's about the building of a park for extinct animals and the acquiring of the animals through the time portal.

Even Walking with dinosaurs/monsters are speculative as we don't know for sure how they looked, how common the species were, not to mention how they behaved, which species watched their eggs and which species abandoned them, and what other life forms were about that we have no fossils of.

I've never seen Prehistoric Park but the others were great.
Another really imaginative one is Dragon's World. But now we're really getting into fantasy.

China Blue was pretty good, you can watch it here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7076214970057867651#

Oh yeah, that one! It was great, but definitely into the realm of fantasy.

I just watched this funny documentary on TV:

Disco and Atomic War

Quote:
Disco and Atomic War reveals the unusual, provocative, and very funny story of how Dallas and Knight Rider led to the fall of the Iron Curtain. A story of coming of age under Communism, the documentary cleverly and cogently argues that the influence of “soft power” — pop culture via illegally intercepted Finnish TV broadcasts of Western media — weakened the tenuous foundation of the Soviet system in Estonia, hastening the collapse of the Soviet Union.

I just watched a brilliant documentary today called The Inventions Of Dr Nakamats. It was one of the best documentaries I've seen this year. Funny as fuck too. There's a scene where he reveals his invention for what he thought would be the future of the car, which was essentially a shoe glued to the top of a remote controlled car. I laughed my ass off.

I just watched this two-part documentary. It's about the fine line between what's considered mental illness and what's considered normal. I recommend it, especially to anyone who's been diagnosed with social anxiety, or depression, or some other mental health condition.

Quote:
Ten volunteers have come together for an extraordinary test. Five are ‘normal’ and the other five have been officially diagnosed as mentally ill. Horizon asks if you can tell who is who, and considers where the line between sanity and madness lies.

The war game, a docudrama from the cold war. I saw it for the first time when France did their nuclear testings in 1996.

So I signed up for a free month of netflix streaming. Their selection of movies is pretty pathetic but I put a lot of documentaries on my list.
I've been waching "How the Universe Works". It's okay but it's not giving me much new information. If I hear the words "unimaginably hot and dense" one more time I'll scream.
And I've been watching "Lost Kingdoms of Africa". It's pretty interesting.
Also on the list are:
Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking
Discover Planet Ocean
Prehistoric
How the Earth Was Made

Any other ideas?

I watched a couple episodes of Prehistoric Predators tonight. The graphics aren't the best but they're decent and it's interesting to see shows devoted to dire wolves and short faced bears.
