Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
That sounds like Arrhythmia. Am I right? --- And on a personal note, the first disorder I was diagnosed with was... a cop out. "Chemical imbalance" and I was given anti depressants. That led to cutting and other suicide attempts. Eventually I shook sense into myself and quit cold turkey. This was several years ago. Then the headaches began and I got "worse". Going to see a doctor soon to find out what's REALLY wrong with me.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
It's hard to say, when I was 2-3 years old I stopped speaking apparently and wouldn't interact with others. So I was put on a yellow school bus and sent to a special school at that time. They weren't big into giving people official disorders back then, though I don't have many documents from that era. You were just called "developmental delayed" or something similar. Sounds like autism spectrum disorder though if it happened today.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
i dont know... alot of asian parents want normal kids. so even if the doctor told them that i had any disorders they would most likely flat out refuse to believe the doctor. i once heard someone mention ADD... but im not hyper... i do get distracted easily but i dont really know if i have it. all i know is that i have a learning disability. no one actually told me what i had... just... learning disability. i didnt learn how to walk until i was 2 and i didnt learn how to talk correctly until i was 5. i didnt learn how to read and write properly until i was in the 6th grade. i still dont understand numbers. i could never really connect with people. i just latched on to people who were nice to me. any idea what i might have? or am i just stupid? you wont hurt my feelings if i am just stupid. ive been told that i was stupid since i could remember.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
ADD is attention deficit without the hyperactivity component. It could describe you in a sense, but it's not worth worrying about. You aren't stupid, at least not communicatively. (And what other barometer could we use when we know little about you personally?) You do have extreme levels of social anxiety which have lead to equally extreme compensatory behaviour, however. Perhaps you were always anxious about not being good enough and that caused your learning difficulty. The standards set by your parents perhaps, but that sounds like too easy a scapegoat for me. You should work on not being so sensitive and mistrustful of your own person before you lay blame elsewhere.

I was first diagnosed with selective mutism at a very young age and recently I was diagnosed with schizophrenic tendencies.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
ooooh ooooh I get to post in nyanngh.
Today I was told I have Schizotypal disorder. Another label which only is useful for grouping me in with others who experience similar symptoms. Or if I choose so I can allow it to reassure myself that "It's not all your fault." But fuck that.
My highest score on the test was "Drug Dependant" , although that's not a disorder is it? To my surprise my next highest was "Antisocial", but thankfully it doesn't mean I'm a sociopath. I apparently shouldn't smoke weed anymore either, but it's the only thing that calms my intrusive thoughts.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
Well the reason I'm not supposed to smoke it anymore is because I have a family history of Schizophrenia. I guess schizotypal can develop into schizophrenia and it's more likely to if I do drugs. I don't think weed is going to harm me anymore though. And I don't think my doctors will recommend me smoking weed.

Technically, the first would have to have been milk allergy...hell yeah, I was a total hipster baby, all drinkin' that soy milk and shit. Then panic disorder, then the sads. No one's ever had to diagnose me with obesity...it's pretty self evident.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
I have frequently been diagnosed with (recurrent) major depressive episodes and I suppose I had a diagnose for social anxiety too, when I was younger, though I didn't care at that time. While majoring in psychology I have talked myself into believing that I have all kinds of personality disorders (schizoid & avoidant seemed most relevant, but I also meet some of the criteria of Borderline and even dependent personality disorder, very mildly though), only to arrive at the conclusion, that nothing really fits. The most accurate description of my state of mind that I ever came across has been the hypersensitivity conception, which is being discussed very controversially/unfavourably in scientific psychology and which is basically irrelevant in clinical psychology today. I'll post a link anyway, because I believe there are many people here, who can relate to what they can read there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highly_sensitive_personVia Google translator copied from the German Wikipedia (sorry for being too lazy to correct the mistakes): | | | | Quote: "The stimuli are deeper, more intense and detailed perceived and stored. Often this property with mere nervousness and sensitivity is confounded, however, the similarity purely external. The hypersensitivity in the secular sense, is mostly a personal overreaction to stimuli that do not respond with increased bandwidth of perception must be that which is with an HSP (highly sensitive person) is almost always the case. [7] The mere sensitivity and irritability that is not criterion for HS.
pronounced subtle perception (imagination and complex thought processes) increased sensitivity to pain detailed perceptual high enthusiasm, a lot of varied interests very strong long-term memory psychosocial fine perception (mental states, moods and emotions of other people are easily identified and more detailed) strongly influenced by other people's moods strong intuitive thinking long emotional "echo" of the experience Thinking in a wider context pronounced altruism, sense of justice Need for harmony, diligence Intense experience of art and music perfectionism most complex multi-layered and stable personality (such as instability in borderline, bipolar disorder, psychosis, etc. are not a feature of the HS, but those can be as a result of mental illness certainly present)
Due to the increased stimulus reception and lower processing resulting in the broadly characteristics that include introversion, unreflecting closing on other, intense experience of interpersonal relationships, strong reactions to drugs, alcohol and caffeine as well as vulnerability to stress, work pressure and time constraints. The frequently postulated association between introversion and HS is not clear, equating the two properties is therefore to be regarded more as simplistic thinking drawers, as well as the attribution of shyness and anxiety. There is empirical evidence that the concepts of social introversion, negative emotionality, shyness and timidity on the concept of high sensitivity are separated. [8] The correlation of these concepts can be interpreted in such a way that the HS in biographical predisposed people (psychic trauma, family conflicts, difficult socialization) promotes the development of introversion, shyness and negative emotionality.
The high information density, which has to cope with the brain, may lead to overloading of the spiritual and mental capacity lead, which is commonly referred to as sensory overload. This phenomenon is also observed in association with autism and Asperger's syndrome, which can often lead to confusion and flat maps. But the fact is that the symptoms of autism is fundamentally different from the HS is different, all autistic people have marked impairments in social behavior, particularly non-verbal communication and contact with other people are difficult - ie primarily those things that belong just to the strengths of the HSP. Unlike with autism and Asperger's syndrome, there is no evidence of developmental disorders in the brain of an HSP, according to Aron, the behavior and the development of HSP, where the use of its sensitivity was taught very early, compared not to average people significantly distinguishable." | | | | |

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
^I was never diagnosed with Hyperlexia, but I have always been a better reader then most kids my age when I was a child. I could read full sentences without any problems. I remember I use to be annoyed at kids who had a hard time reading a sentence when the teacher called on him/her because I could read the sentences perfectly and quickly, so it annoyed me that others couldn't too.

Re: What's the first disorder you were diagnosed with?
^^
I can't remember anything about my childhood, but damn, I think I can remember almost every book I've ever read, going back to those early days. The first book I ever read completely on my own was about an old English sheepdog named Rug, actually, I'm pretty sure I still own a copy of that one. Ended with me getting moved ahead in school because I was reading at some ridiculous level when I was in kindergarten. I don't think it's actually that disorder, though. I'm pretty sure I just learned to read early because my grandmother started trying to teach me literally when I was a newborn. I was talking to my grandfather about his first memories of me, and he said that the first time he could remember me outside of the hospital, my grandmother was holding me in one arm and a book in the other and was reading to me. And she only really did that because I would never sleep--my brother didn't get read to very often because he was always resting. Not about skill, in my case. Just about lots and lots and lots of practice.

Why were you annoyed at that? I didn't really care what the other children in my kindergarten did... Btw, I'm not actually hyperlexic, just gifted. But psychologists had to find something wrong...
