So England won then? :closedeyes

Goodness, you Americans. Leaving everything to the last possible minute for maximum dramatic potential. Pure Hollywood. :grin
Guess I'll have to check the highlights of these games as I missed them. Now to heave my ass on home to see the remaining evening games.
:surprised

Another few bad calls owned the US yet again but they still came through with some luck and poise.

It would have been sad if the US hadn't gone through because of the referee. I hope they get someone better in the 1/8 finals than the previous referees.

Some of the fouls given away in that England match were ridiculous, I'm pretty sure I saw a player take an elbow to the face and get a yellow card for it.

Ghana was a surprisingly hard team. But our defence was also terrible. :confused
Should improve a lot more - then we can knock England out.
(Also Podolski should train more with penalty shootings... just for the case... :fun)

So far only the right teams went through, imo. The 2nd part of the world cup will be interesting to say the least. Just hoping for Spain to make it as well.

Bring on Germany! I reckon we can do 'em. They don't have many individual stand out players, and are quite inexperienced. They have been quite impressive in the group stages though...

Half Time.
I can't believe this but if New Zealand score, and the Slovakia/Italy game remains as is, then New Zealand go through as group winners. (@_@)

I know this isn't football related, but at Wimbledon the 'epic' match between Isner & Mahut is currently 63 - 63 respectively at this time of writing. What the hell are these players on. I'm secretly hoping that they make it to a 100 - 100.

It's all over, and the World Champs are out! I wish I saw the Slovakia/Italy game, sounds like it was a real cliffhanger.
Congrats to New Zealand, so close. They were unbeaten in their tournament and were so close to actually qualifying for the last 16. I thought they would be violently sodomised, but I was proved wrong.
:closedeyes

Now to heave my ass on home for the evening games. Japan/Denmark, it's in the balance and it's a must win for both sides. Should be good.
:surprised

...oh, and the world's longest tennis match has finally ended. 11+ hours and over 200 aces between them both. (O_O)!

Japan go through with a draw, Denmark needs a victory. Expect the usual defensive midfield style Japan always play with and expect a 1-0,0-0 or 0-1 result, as always with similar teams. Japan uses a defensive midfielder as "balance player" and they aren't the most entertaining team. South Korea is my favorite asian team because they play a more offensive and stylish football.

I'm not rooting for Japan because I like anime, but because I hate Denmark - our neighbouring country of ruddy skinned drunkards who believe they are the "brazilians of Scandinavia" when it comes to football, lol. Denmark is still living in the 90's and their only good player is Christian Poulsen who's infamous for his dirty style and how he handled most of the big stars in the world, like Kakà and others. Certainly nothing "brazilian" about Denmark anyway... They don't play beautiful football.

Thanks for clearing that up Soleiyu, I was convinced both teams had to win.
I hope Japan go through, but I don't think they will go very far. Shame.

Japan is clearly the better team, I didn't think there would be that big a difference between them but thankfully now I can gloat over the danish failure.

Wow, Japan were superb in this game - and should fancy their chances against Paraguay if they perform like this.
Plus the best free kicks in the tournament was a nice touch although Sorensen was pretty crappy dealing with them.
That Honda fellow looks like a nice purchase on the transfer market if he keeps playing like that.

You may gloat to your hearts content Soleiyu. :yes

I saw bits of the Japan game, they were surprisingly good. Also bad times for Italy, they didn't deserve to go through though.

I can see Uruguay going pretty far - the semi's, if not the final! Apparently they genuinely believe there that they can win it, and i wouldn't go that far, but i can see them as a good outside bet to progress. There's always someone ;)

I think USA will beat Ghana, and Uruguay will beat USA in the 1/4 final. Uruguay will probably take the bronze, maybe even silver or gold.
