Overweight? You look skinny as hell in your pictures.

Did you lose a significant amount of weight or something?

Yes, when my parent's divorced I moved with my father to a neighbouring village. But, my father didn't work and we were very poor. I couldn't afford to take buses very much. Instead, I would walk 12 miles almost daily to visit people, and then return home. That, combined with a diet of toast and beans got the weight shifted pretty fast. I think since then I've lost even more weight. I didn't think I was that skinny at all until I visited my aunt's this week and they said that I'd lost weight. Hearing people call me skinny makes me want to put some weight on, on my shoulders and legs at least. We don't really budget my father's paycheck for food very well though, which leads to a frugal diet.

My mother has some photos of a camping trip we went on. She played a practical joke on me where she only took pictures when I was eating. Which made me realise how much extra weight I was carrying. I thought it was a mean trick, but I wouldn't mind having them now. Just so I could compare. I'll e-mail her and see if she'll scan and send them so I can post them.

Usually got As. I got a couple Bs in college, but they were in, lol, ballet and Latin. Grades are a racket, anyway.
I'd sleep in class and still get an A. In HS I was number 7 in my class. In college I graduated magna cum laude.
Got a stack of awards for academics, published a few papers -- pretty strange for someone who did all his papers
the morning of and never studied. But I guess the numbers are inflated, since I dropped classes when I suspected
I wouldn't do well. It's all about knowing when to quit. Grades, life, everything.

Academics is obviously bullshit. Plus, what good did it do me?

IMO, there should be only two grades. Pass or fail.

I got mostly A's and B's throughout public school with a few C's in high school because I started skipping so I could stay home and play video games. I graduated cum laude in college (3.68). The hardest part for me in school was convincing myself to go some days. I've never had any difficulty with academic work. Which probably contributed to my skipping. I was bored and everything seemed easy, so I figured why bother going? But I'm done now, so woohoo!

Considering you majored in math and still graduated with honors, you must be fucking brilliant.

A's for a few years, slow decline down to F's, followed by an alternative school with no letter grade system. :confused

Since I'm back to college like Rodney Dangerfield, I have trouble maintaining much interest in getting A's. I just shoot for B's.

Post Re: How were your grades in school?
I've never put so much effort into school that I dreaded it, there's no point, I always do just enough to pass my classes and keep people off my back(parents, teachers). My transcript is littered with A's, B's and C's. I normally get A's in any type of mechanical or computer class, B's if it's a class I enjoy, C's if it's a class I don't like and I'm only taking it to get it out of the way, and I'll occasionally get a D if it's class I hate going to and have ZERO motivation to do anything in.

Like this last semester I was taking a Psychology of Religion class, I thought it would be fun, and it was in the beginning. But the teacher was so damn boring and some of things that we had to know for tests were so mundane that I honestly wanted ask the teacher, "what the fuck are you doing?" Half way through the semester I stopped doing all homework and did very little studying for the tests. My mindset was pretty much, "if I pass, good. If not, I'll take another psychology class with a different teacher." I did just good enough on the THREE mid-terms(one C, two D's) and Final(D), that I passed the class with a C.

This is the email my teacher sent me:

Shiro,

You received 65 percent on the final exam but a "C" in the course. You got 10 out of 10 points on the logic section (great!) as well as full credit on your essay (although it was a little short).

Have a good summer!

In High School/grade school I never tried: I never saw a reason to prove myself to anyone. I averaged 2.0-2.5's w/ skipping a lot during my latter high school years-- I totalled 80 'absences' on my senior year.

These days, after dropping out of college & dealing with the 'real world' and having to 'accept' their subjective valuations on life, I've returned to college and I'm averaging a 3.75 GPA.

Straight A's ;D

But, as time passed i got really bored of school so i recalcitrated in defiance to the fact I had nothing to study in school.
I used to ditch school to play Video Games, and read books by myself without any teachers or students bothering me.

Worst class was Sports though, I failed Sports too many times. lol

I worry a lot about what my grades will be like once I go back to law school. I know their whole goal in first year is to knock you down off your "pedestal" and give you a bunch of Bs and Cs to teach you the whole "you're not so smart anymore" bit, so I really shouldn't be upset when I get them. It's just that getting good grades has always been the only part of me that I can take much pride in. It's not that I'm very smart, it's just that I'm exceptionally good at memorizing shit and took a lot of classes that hinged on that (history, languages...probably helped that I liked those subjects too).

In both high school and college I ended up with GPAs that were 3.95+...I'm not looking forward to probably scraping a 2.0. What is there that I can be proud of without those grades? My encyclopedic knowledge of yaoi? :'(

I got excellent grades in primary school. The teachers there were absolute legends. I don't think I'll ever have teachers like that again. Learning was actually fun.

Then I went to secondary school. Still got good grades, but they kept slipping. Then I went to sixth form. I did shit in class apart from when I tried very, very hard and managed to scrape two As and two Cs at a-level.

Now? I feel like my brain has expired somewhat.

I got great grades in my (equivalent to) GCSEs

But now I'm extremely unmotivated, and I'm finding it hard to do any work, so in my prelim exams I didn't do too well,

but I'll need to really start working hard now (I dunno how the hell I'll manage) if I want to get an offer to a reasonably good university

Straight A student until Jr High, when they started slipping. Bullying encouraged me to NOT show up. Don't show up? No friends in that class? You'll never know what your homework is before it's due. Ended up getting to the point that I just dropped out as a C, D, F student when I was a junior in high school. Went to college for a semester and got pretty average grades (except for the class that didn't test on the subject material. Spend a month working certain material, exam ends up being on something COMPLETELY different and no one in the class scores higher than a 30%). Dropped out of that too. Couldn't afford it, no transportation.

My grades were ok, but I had little motivation for homework or excellence. I feel like if I were motivated I'd have had higher grades. Though then I'd have had less time alone reading and thinking, so maybe it would have been a wash.

Were like 80/100 until this year that fell at 45/100. I find it useless and boring most of the times. If I have to repeat course, I'm probably choosing more linguistic subjects than this stupid science group.

Hahaha.
Sounds exactly like something I would do. I had only A's and A + scores and an A average in school until I got infuriated by doing such banal tests over and over again, which in turn infuriated teachers and classmates that splenetically loathed the lineaments of my personality. A few years thereafter my average score was below F inasmuch as I had managed to triumphantly attain two appellations; the worst student in school and the most loathed student in school.

P. S.

Don't believe what they tell you, your are not your grade.(wow I sound as rebellious as Tyler Durden) :)
