 The Last Man On Earth
Just imagine: It seems to be an ordinary morning when you're getting up from your bed. But something is different... All people on this world have disappeared without a trace. You're the only one left.
What would you do if you were in such a situation? How would you feel?
Yeah, this question is inspired by the famous novel, movie, whatever, etc. But it would be interesting for all the reclusive people here - since there is no society anymore...

Kill myself. I may be reclusive, but pretty much all i do relies on other people being out there somewhere, whether that be maintaining the power grid or creating content for the websites i visit.

I have this fantasy a lot. Except that there is usually a couple of hot females left, and they're stuck with me, AHAHAHA. But seriously I would LOVE that.

I'd probably make a tin foil hat to contact aliens and live out the rest of my days becoming more and more insane.

i would totally go shopping and not pay for anything! and just think, all the dressing rooms are open. i think i would also check out all the houses in my neighborhood, just to see what's inside them. also, i would gather up all the abandoned pets and start my own animal army.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
Your post reminded me of an episode of the Twilight Zone. Not the original black & white, but the color version in the 80s. A lady discovered she had the ability to stop time on command. She used it throughout the episode to make her daily routine easier and more pleasant. Once to stop the kids from bickering for a few minutes of peace. Another at a grocery outlet so she wouldn't have to wait on line, and so forth. During the final scene, nuclear war had been declared with Russia (this was the 80's after all), and ICBM's had been deployed from both sides ensuring certain mutual destruction. She used her power to freeze time for what would be her last, to prevent the missiles from touching down. The episode closed with her walking around the streets seeing her neighbors frozen in panic. I remember being freaked out by this episode as a child.

Enjoy and mostly pillage anything I can find from the remaining shops and residents. With all that, I'd have it made for a while until the day I die out of God-Knows-What and have my last moments looking at the scenery of a dead world.

PANIC! I would not like that. Despite being a hikikomori, I hate being alone for long periods, if that makes any sense. My parents are fairly reclusive, too, so they're always home, and I usually have an IM or two.

As long as I had my dog i would be ok. I think i would actually enjoy it i was the only person left alive. I wouldn't be afraid to every time i leave the comfort of my room. Hopefully ramen stays good for a couple decades.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
In the first phase i would be very suprised and scared, after some time i would get used to it, i would wander around, do shit, "steal stuff" do the things i wanted to do (that im able to do) after maybe a week or so i would start to get depressed, i would face reality that there wont be anyone anymore and that theres no reason to continue living, I would live a very painful and lonely life till i die (as an old man or because of some sickness) because i fear dead more than anything else, so suicide would be impossible for me.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
I would probably become really depressed. And at first I probably would wander around, moving from place to place all the time, because staying at the same frozen place, would simply be too scary, it would take some time to get used to that. I would probably also try to look after another human being, for quite a while, because I would be hoping there'd be at least someone out there. And of course I would steal stuff all the time too. In the end, I would probably get used to not being able to talk to anyone, and the world never changing, and then I would stay inside, and only leave to get something to eat. Most likely I would create my own world, and slowly going insane wouldn’t matter much, because there would be no people to look down on me anyway.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
I think I'd cope pretty good actually, as long as I had my dog to keep me company. I'd probably go exploring, breaking into building to see what was inside, and of course eat whatever I found from the abandoned super markets and such.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
I would be very depressed at the first moments, because my kind mom is not here around me. After that I'll get used to it and make a "to do list": - going to the supermarket and steal all food - going to library and steal a book about gardening (and maybe some completed manga/book series or stuff) - going to the departments stores and steal lots of DVDs and games - going to the animal house and get some pets for company - going to weapon's store and steal rifles (because wild animals won't be feared to go to the cities anymore) - going to a lake near here and swimming naked hehe There is no one around me so I won't be seen by anyone and can do embarrasing stuff in the "public" ... unless I start to realize i'm in a kind of show like "The Truman Show"

Re: The Last Man On Earth
After some time getting food gets more problematic because of the date and stuff, also theres a problem with electric water and more that is very difficult to solve without other people around Also you would have to worry about radioactive zones because all the nuclear power plants are unmanned.
To be honest i would prefer a zombie infection over beeing the last man on earth, at least you have a chance even if its minimal, and you dont have to be alone, also you wont die thaat fast if youre smart because it wouldnt be like in hollywood movies where everyone dies

Re: The Last Man On Earth
Just find yourself a new house with solar paneling. I've got one in mind already, one of my ex-coworkers has an engineerer for a husband, their house runs on solar power.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
Same here. If my parents were gone, I'd be stricken with grief and despair, and I might have ended it as soon as I had no more pets. I doubt I could ever get used to my family being gone. But if they were there (like they always have been in my fantasies) it'd be a dream come true! No threats, no stress, no people other than us... Sigh... Diseases and injuries would be a problem, though. No doctors or easily attainable medicine. We'd raid pharmacies of course, but we could only use what we knew and could diagnose on our own. Food and power would also be a problem. Sooner or later power would be gone and neither of us are electricians. The food would go bad in shops. But it'd be wonderful to go out and know there would be no stress, no obscenities, no threats, no one to harass me in any way. Peace and quiet, the environment and the wild animals safe for millions of years. No capitalism, jobs (other than feeding and clothing ourselves). I could live with it.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
There must have been some people who have been in this situation. There have been quite a few isolated islands that have been colonized, yet unable to sustain life on a longer term. Those islands must have had one last inhabitant. Obviously they were not really the last person on earth, but from their perspective they might very well have been.
As for myself, I am a loner and I don't mind being alone, but I still need some human contact. I'd probably grief for a year or two... then enjoy myself by doing stuff you could only do in such a situation. But in the end I'd be very lonely and probably surround myself with animals to make up for the lack of human contact.

Re: The Last Man On Earth
Everyone gone, and all their stuff left the way they had it? I'd be poking around in it.
I always was fascinated with other people's things as a kid. A matter of pure curiosity, but almost voyeuristic, in a less personal way than usual. I didn't grow out of it until I was in my 30's actually.
I can also easily imagine that such a situation would cause me to fortify the place I slept. Odd, huh? "Paranoia strikes deep. Into your heart it will silently creep!".

Re: The Last Man On Earth
"The Last Man On Earth" scenario seems to resemble the "Biblical Rapture", according to this: http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/Believer ... apture.htmI wouldn't worry of being "Left Behind" since I've believed the Bible for a long time now. But if I found out that I was the one who was "Left Behind" I guess I would weep for awhile, and after I'm done weeping I'll continue my journey all over the world to find out what really happened to this world. I'll most likely do my best to stay alive in anyway I could. And no, suicide is never an option for me even if I'm left all alone or when facing great danger. I know for sure that if I was "Left Behind", that means that God must have a Purpose for my life which I'm going to find out eventually.
