Post Dorama
Anyone here likes to watch dorama (japanese TV series), too? :)
I just love watching them all and I'm always looking for a new one to look at.

What are your favorites?

My top favorites:

#1 - Hotaru no Hikari
Hotaru works for a famous interior design company. It's a glamorous job but Hotaru's private life is totally the opposite of glamorous. She lives alone, and when she isn't working she's mostly lazing about her rented house in training wear. She's not interested in men. In fact, she isn't interested in anything. "I'd rather lay around than fool around," is her motto.
Her landlord is a bar owner, and one day his son, who has just separated from his wife, comes to inspect the rental property, not knowing that someone is living there. He is shocked at the mess, but not as shocked as Hotaru. He turns out to be her boss, Takano.

#2 - Jyoou no Kyoushitsu
Maya Akutsu, a sixth-grade teacher who dresses all in black, is repeatedly referred to as "oni sensei" (the teacher from hell), when, in fact, she seems to be an ultrarealist at heart. The drama focuses on a year in her classroom and, particularly, the effect it has on 12-year-old Kazumi--a nice but mediocre student whose parents want to send her to a private secondary school.

#3 - Seigi no Mikata
15-year-old Yoko, a young girl who is constantly tormented by her self-centered and devilish older sister Makiko, who works for a government office after having graduated from a famous university. But despite her ill nature, Makiko's actions tend to somehow make things better for those around her, causing others to praise her as an "ally of justice."

I've watched a lot of other dorama, too, but I like especially the comedy ones. :]

I like Hotaru no Hikari too. I think Ayase acts really well in that show and I can relate to her because I used to be like that too. The last J-drama I watched was Boss, Nodame Cantabile and Mr Brain. I used to watch a lot during my teens though, such as Long Vacations and Love Generation. I don't find J-dramas nowadays are more interesting than those in the past. But I do want to watch Reset, it seems interesting enough for me. Problem is, I can't find the subbed version online.

I'd like to watch "The Quiz Show" and "Mr. Brain", too.
I think that the J-dorama are now better than in the past, too. There are more and more interesting storylines everywhere. Thats good. :)
I wanted to watch "1 Litre no namida" but the story is too sad... *sigh*

I heard 1 Litre no namida was good but I know if I watch it I'll get really depressed. I watched the movie and had to stopped in halfway because I was already feeling horrible.

I've only watched Attention, Please!, and not even 'til the end. Don't know why though, I should. Also, any others you guys recommend I should watch besides the ones you mentioned?

Link to the torrent or direct download with english subtitles would be nice, too :blush

I haven't been watching a lot of J-dramas recently so there are not many I can recommend.. Besides the 3 I mentioned there is Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi (The Deer Man) regarding a good-for-nothing teacher who gets assigned to a girls' high school in Nara. He becomes a "deer man," working to prevent the downfall of Japan under the orders of the deer of Nara Park (source Crunchyroll). The plot is pretty cool and the acting is impressive.

For something older, probably Beautiful Life and Summer Snow.

Well, when it comes to TV shows, I prefer comedy/sitcoms. Actually, not that I prefer it, it's my favourite, but I like many others, not sure where to put those though :D
But when it comes to doramas, I'm not sure if I'd like their comedies as much as western comedies, so I don't know, I guess I'll have to explore a little to figure that out.

Wow, Mikan, you sure watch a lot doramas.. I haven't watch the Japanese version of Hana Yori Dango yet. Been telling myself to watch it but just too lazy. I have watched the other two versions, Taiwanese and Korean. For a long time I was watching only Korean dramas that's why I missed out a lot of J-dramas.

I've watched a few. I like Kimi wa Petto, and Hana Zakari No Kimi Tachi E (also known as boys over flowers and hana kimi). Although I don't know if I got that spelling right, both of those are jdorama's. (They also have a chinese version and and an anime, and live film adaptions of hana kimi.) My favorite dorama in general though is korean and is called Coffe Prince which folows the same undercover girl plot as Hana Kimi but is placed in a coffe shop. With cuter boys. ;P

Daddicts generally is where you can find these shows, and another good source is asiandvdclub. =D

Hope I was helpful.

I haven't watched any in a while but I can recommend "Jin" and "real clothes."

Jin is the story about a tokyo doctor whose partner is in a coma following brain surgery that he performed. After chasing after a runaway patient he falls down some stairs and awakes to find he has timeslipped back to the Edo period. There he eventually sets up a practice and starts treating patients, all while wondering if he is doing the right thing, and trying to find a way back home.

I watched real clothes without subtitles and still managed to enjoy it, he he, its about a woman who works in the futon department of a department store, who gets moved by the boss to the store's ladie's fashion department. She knows nothing about fashion and doesn't fit in with the other glamorous women there, but eventually changes herself and moves up in the world of high fashion.

I really wanted to watch ichi riitaru no namida but I'm afraid it might be too sad for me...

I haven't watched 1 litre of tears complete but it is really good, but I cried a lot

Hotaru no Hikaru was really good, I like it. I like rolling on the floor.

I am currently watching Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, well without subs... but its very funny. I read the Manga and think they did a good job making it into a Dorama.

I hope they make a Dorama from the Manga Mars, there is only a Taiwanese Dorama from 2004. I wanted to watch but I can find it.

Only one I've watched is Great Teacher Onizuka, which was quite good. Especially the young actors felt authentic.

I haven't read the original manga or watched the anime, so I can't compare the TV-series to other medium. Anyone seen all/some of them?

*WARNING: LONG POST* I've got nothing better to do :fun

I know a great site that some of you may be interested in.

I used to watch asian dramas/series daily. The best site I know for watching them is aznv.TV, they have just about every series you can think of. Some series you that you cant buy anymore, and some series that are even hard to find through torrent sites. You have to pay anywhere from $5-15, depending on how many hours of streaming you want, but believe me, I watched A LOT of series and I've only spent $20 in the last 3+ years for 340+ hours of streaming(I know all of this because it's recorded on my account). I have 23 more hours of streaming before I have to buy more. Not to mention they have just about every anime you can think of, even the rare ones. All of the shows are subtitled of course, which is the only drawback I've found, I'd like the option to watch it in either Japanese or English.

You do need to download Winamp and I think they may have some free shows to choose from if you want to test it out.

Here's a screen cap of me browsing their selection:

Anyways, getting on topic, here some doramas I like: (no specific order)

1) Orange Days -
Kai Yuuki (Satoshi Tsumabuki) is in his senior year at university studying social welfare psychology. At present, he is in the middle of job-hunting season. He is finding it difficult with no job offers so far.

One day, he meets a girl who is playing violin in the campus. She is Sae Hagio (Kou Shibasaki). In marked contrast to her beautiful tone and attractive looks, her personality is somewhat impertinent. And to top it off, she communicates through very vulgar sign language.
Four years ago, she lost the most important thing for a violinist - her hearing. As a result Sae closed off her inner self from the outside world. Kai finds himself on a date with Sae, in place of his best friend. Unexpectedly, he comes into contact with Sae's private side. Love, job-hunting, friendship... Setting a campus in spring as a dorama`s backdrop, it's the start of a glittering youth drama.

Image

2) Kimi wa Petto -
Smart, successful and good-looking Iwaya Sumire works for a big newspaper. However, her boss asks her to leave for being too "perfect" a woman. Feeling angry and dejected Iwaya returns home depressed, and most of all lonely. However, when she finds an unconscious young man lying in a box out the front of her home and takes him in. He looks like a dog she used to own called Momo. She dubs him Momo and decides to "keep him as a pet." It's the start of an unexpected life together as they overcome obstacles and become quite attached to one another. But can love like this exist?

Image

3) Great Teacher Onizuka -
Sorimachi Takashi plays Onizuka Eikichi, a graduate of a third-rate University and the leader of a motorcycle gang, whose lifelong dream is to become a teacher. After being hired by a seemingly eccentric principal, Onizuka begins his unconventional way of teaching a hopeless group of troublemakers. Although he meets much opposition from the students and teachers themselves, his warmth and passion for teaching eventually convinces everyone that Onizuka truly has the makings of a great teacher.

Image

4) At Home Dad -
Suddenly one day, Kazuyuki is forced to quit his company. At the same time, his wife receives a call from her former employer saying he wants her to come back to work. Consequently, Kazuyuki has no other choice but to stay at home while Miki works. Kazuyuki reluctantly starts his new life as a household husbandthe last thing he wanted to do.

Kazuyuki's new "career" starts out as a big failure, because he can't seem to do anything right. This consequently causes his pride as an elite businessman to go right down the drain. But thanks to his hard-working personality, he is determined to get the ball rollingand soon after, finds himself enjoying life as an at-home dad. From this point on, Kazuyuki begins looking up to Yusuke as his mentor.
Image

5) Devil Beside You -
Qi Yue (Rainie Yang) has a crush on Yuan Yi (Kingone) and with the encouragement of her friends, she decides to confess her love for him. She writes him a love letter and is going to give it to him in person. However she got so nervous when she sees him that she accidentally hands it to Jiang Meng (Mike He), the school director's son who has a devilish reputation and a penchant to bully girls. In the midst of total panic, Yue drops the letter before Meng, and scoots away.

After realizing her letter is with Meng, she tries to get it back from him. True to his name, Meng orders Yue to be his personal servant, and threatens to print copies of her letter and throw them down from the school roof so that everyone can read them. Embarrassed and very very angry, Yue has no choice but to follow in the devil's shadow.

Finally, unable to stand Meng's devil-may-care attitude, Yue decides to break Meng's hold over her and finally tells Yuan Yi that she likes him, and is surprised to find that the feelings are mutual. A bizarre twist later, Yue discovers she harbours feelings for Meng. She realizes that beneath the cool exterior lies a soft heart and a loyal soul who will always stand up for his friends. Meng returns her affections as well, and at last the dreamy Qi Yue whose head is made up almost all of romance fluff, thinks she has found love.

One thing stands in the way, however... How can they be together, when they're about to become brother and sister?

I could add a bunch more, but this post is getting way too long.

I wanted to watch "Yoiko no Mikata" now but it seems you can get the subbed ones at an elite fansub site. :closedeyes
Well, I'll look for "Ohitorisama" (Teppei Koike :inlove ) or "Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge" (Kazuya Kamenashi :inlove ) now.
