If you want to embed a YouTube video right onto a page, just click on 'YouTube' above, and copy & paste the link from the address bar to the YouTube video. Don't copy the 'embed' link in YouTube since HTML doesn't work here.

I was listening to the Joni Mitchell album 'Court & Spark' on the stereo. I've been listening to it pretty much straight through since last night. It's such a good album.

Song: Master Jack
Artist(s): Four Jacks and a Jill
Year of release: 1968
Country of origin: South Africa
My opinions on this song:I love it, and it brings back a lot of memories for me.
Lyrics:
Quote:
It's a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
You taught me all I know and I'll never look back
It's a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack

You took a colored ribbon from out of the sky
And taught me how to use it as the years went by
To tie up all your problems and make them look neat
And then to sell them to the people in the street

It's a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
You taught me all I know and I'll never look back
It's a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack

I saw right through the way you started teachin' me now
So some day soon you could get to use me somehow
I thank you very much and though you've been very kind
But I'd better move along before you change my mind

It's a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
You know how I feel as if I'll never come back
It's a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack

You taught me all the things the way you'd like them to be
But I'd like to see if other people agree
It's all very int'resting the way you disguise
But I'd like to see the world through my own eyes

It's a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
No hard feelin's if I never come back
You're a very strange man and I thank you, Master Jack

You're a very strange man and I thank you, Master Jack
You're a very strange man and I thank you, Master Jack

Song: Leader of the Pack
Artist(s): The Shangri-Las
Year of release: 1964
Country of origin: America
My opinions on this song: I've always liked this song.
Lyrics:
Quote:
[Spoken:]
Is she really going out with him?
Well, there she is. Let's ask her.
Betty, is that Jimmy's ring you're wearing?
Mm-hmm
Gee, it must be great riding with him
Is he picking you up after school today?
Uh-uh
By the way, where'd you meet him?

I met him at the candy store
He turned around and smiled at me
You get the picture? (yes, we see)
That's when I fell for (the leader of the pack)

My folks were always putting him down (down, down)
They said he came from the wrong side of town
(whatcha mean when ya say that he came from the wrong side of town?)
They told me he was bad
But I knew he was sad
That's why I fell for (the leader of the pack)

One day my dad said, "Find someone new"
I had to tell my Jimmy we're through
(whatcha mean when ya say that ya better go find somebody new?)
He stood there and asked me why
But all I could do was cry
I'm sorry I hurt you (the leader of the pack)

[Spoken:]
He sort of smiled and kissed me goodbye
The tears were beginning to show
As he drove away on that rainy night
I begged him to go slow
But whether he heard, I'll never know

Look out! Look out! Look out! Look out!

I felt so helpless, what could I do?
Remembering all the things we'd been through
In school they all stop and stare
I can't hide the tears, but I don't care
I'll never forget him (the leader of the pack)

The leader of the pack - now he's gone
The leader of the pack - now he's gone
The leader of the pack - now he's gone
The leader of the pack - now he's gone
[Fade]

Song: The Weight
Artist(s): Smith
Year of release: 1968
Country of origin: America
My opinions on this song: It's a great song - and was perfect in Easy Rider.
Lyrics:
Quote:
I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.

(Chorus:)
Take a load off Fannie, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fannie, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide;
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side.
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown."
She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around."

(Chorus)

Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day.
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee
company?"

(Chorus)

Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.
He said, "I will fix your rags, if you'll take Jack, my dog."
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man."
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can."

(Chorus)

Catch a Cannonball, now, t'take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time.
To get back to Miss Annie, you know she's the only one.
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.

I've noticed that I've been listening to a LOT of pop lately.

When I used to only listen to stuff like Dir en grey and Malice Mizer.

I haven't listening to The Smiths for years now. Do they ever sound good after not listening to them for so long!

The Smiths - Is It Really So Strange?

The Smiths - Panic

The Smiths - Girl Afraid

The Smiths - Ask

I think that I will start listening to The Smiths again. At one point in time they were my favorite band. They seem like the type of music that people like us would listen to. :)

I hadn t heard a single Smiths song until recently (How Soon is Now) and i really like them. I thought it was weird i had never properly listened to them before because they re really famous and they re even from the same city as me, i guess they were just before my time.

People say their music is depressing, but i find it upbeat when compared with what i usually listen to.

I'll really have to check The Smiths out sometime - everyone seems to be talking about them these days.

I've been listening to the hymn "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind(1872)" today, adapted from the poem by John Greenleaf Whittier. We used to sing this hymn at school when I was younger.

Video:

Here is the full text:
Quote:
Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives Thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard
Beside the Syrian sea
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word
Rise up and follow Thee.

O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with Thee
The silence of eternity
Interpreted by love!

With that deep hush subduing all
Our words and works that drown
The tender whisper of Thy call,
As noiseless let Thy blessing fall
As fell Thy manna down.

Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!

Did you listen to the songs I posted by them? They are some of their best songs in my opinion.

The Smiths have lots of depressing songs, but the songs I happened to post are some of their more up-beat ones.

If you want to check the Smiths out, I suggest that you start with the compilation 'Louder Than Bombs'. It's kind of a strange compilation as it's not really a greatest hits compilation since it's comprised mainly of unreleased songs, but also includes most of The Smiths singles. It's regarded as being one of the best Smiths albums, even though it's a compilation.

Their best albums (in my opinion) in order are:

. Louder Than Bombs
. The Queen is Dead
. Meat is Murder
