Angel Sanctuary (sadly never got finished)
Boogiepop Wa Warewanai (confusing until episode 8, actually may consider watching it backwards;.. but really good)
.hack//SIGN (lots of dialogs / talking, but a good plot)
Monster (a bit tedious at times, but very good overall)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Noir (though the ending is really bad I think)
Serial Experiments Lain
Texhnolyze (a bit tedious due to it being overstylized, but also refreshing in some ways)
Welcome to the N.H.K! (my favorite)
movies:
5 centimeters per second (sad, drama)
Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2 (nice atmosphere, philosophic)
Jin-Roh (nice atmosphere)
Princess Mononoke // Mononoke Hime (nice atmosphere and cute)
End of Evangelion (sad, drama, nice atmosphere)
Evangelion 1.01 - You are (not) alone (first episodes of the series as a movie)
Paprika (very nice OST)
Perfect Blue (good thriller)
Spirited Away (nice atmosphere, dreamy)

Vampire Hunter D (nice creepy atmosphere, but nowhere really scary)

*the World of Narue* ( cute.. middle school scifi innocent romance type ) though not my cup of tea, I highly like it.
*Please Twins* ( very funny with awkward moments , but after finishing it.. It made me want to hang myself (don't ask) It's good though )
*Popotan* ( some time traveling.. some nudity but overall for all ages. popoptan's are weeds. mystery solved. ) ( she talks to them )
* This ugly yet beautiful World* ( saw it few years ago.. don't remember much.. but I do remember that it's good. ( don't judge on the 1st episode it gets better)

Re: Recommended anime It's been a long time since i watched anime (except for evangelion, i'm reseeing it again from childhood, trying to comprehend it more with semi-adult eyes) but i recommend:
Evangelion.
Death Note.
Monster (i think there is an anime, i'm sure there is a manga of it though).
Oldboy (saying it more for the manga, but i'm sure there must be an anime of it somewhere).
