 Re: Book Recommendation Thread
I just finished reading and highly recommend 'Tower of Glass' by Robert Silverberg.
The book ends up being way different than you expect it to be (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).... Highly recommended!

 Re: Book Recommendation Thread
lol books r for nerds...your wasting you're life by reeding books... I used to read a lot when I was younger, but I stopped reading on a regular basis once I began to understand how to use the internet. Fortunately, I am working on reversing that process now. I am spending increasingly less time online, using the computer mainly for productive purposes (working on websites for people, schoolwork, math-related fun, etc.) The last book I read was a collection of Tolstoy's short stories, of which my favourite was Master and Man. I thought it was a lovely story, and was made even better by the fact that I read it whilst staying at a resort in the snowy Alps.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin
You're doing yourself a disservice by not reading this series. Every book is like a brick chocked full of squee-inducing epic fantasy awesomeness. Head splitting? Check. Incest? Check. Loli? Check. Loli princess who gives birth to dragons *in* her husband's funeral pyre, which she then uses to utterly PWN? Check. But it's more than that. It's deeply written, engrossing, beautifully characterized and an utterly amazing series of books. I've never had such a pleasurable reading experience in my adult life.
And I really want to read them again right now, but I have way too much stuff that's more important. =/

Nightwatch Daywatch Twilight Watch Last Watch
by Sergei Lukyanenko
The story takes place in modern day Moscow and revolves around a confrontation/conspiracy between two opposing supernatural FBI styled groups (known as "Others"): the Night Watch, an organization dedicated to policing the actions of the Dark Others—and the Day Watch, which polices the actions of the Light Others. Normal humans are unaware of these organizations.

 Re: Book Recommendation Thread
Definitely check out:
The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks I've only read the first book so far, but it's about an orphan kid that lived on the streets until he got taken under the wing of THE MOST feared assassin in the land. The book basically follows his life as a kid on the streets, to a young teen assassin apprentice, and an adult trying to prove himself to his master; all intertwined with a very good romance/drama undertone.
Welcome to the NHK by Tatsuhiko Takimoto (i'm talking about the novel) A lot of you should be familiar with this title. How the anime was stemmed off of the manga, the manga actually stemmed off of a novel. It's about a hikikomori trying to re-enter society while being pushed forward/tutored by a cute girl with suspicious intentions. note: sadly this book is out of print. I was lucky and found a copy in good condition off of ebay. However, there is a free scan on the internet. Just google "Welcome to the NHK novel scribd."

 Re: Book Recommendation Thread
Right now I'm reading a book called "Nobody Nowhere" by an author named Donna Williams who I believe has HFA. She talks about her childhood & young adulthood on the autism spectrum. It's very good. She also has another book called "Somebody Somewhere" which is a follow up to "Nobody Nowhere," which I can't wait to read. I'm finding a lot of myself in her book. It was written in the 90's, but I still find it relevant.
Also, for anyone who loves urban fantasy-type series, Kim Harrison's "The Hollows" series, & "Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" series are great. Plus, Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles are great for anyone who loves vampire novels

 Re: Book Recommendation Thread
I was lucky to find it at the book store a few months ago. It was shelved with the manga at the very end of the bottom shelf so probably nobody even knew it was there. I like that it was actually written by a hikikomori and at the end he admits that nothing's changed and that he obsesses about the story he wrote. I get like that whenever I write something.

 Re: Book Recommendation Thread
Ira Levin's This Perfect Day is a must read for any fan of dystopia. it's about a "perfect" society and one man who goes by his nickname instead of his nameber, doesn't have any close relationships, and becomes a part of a resistence who are found out because of him. after his capture he lives a drugged life until one day his treatment runs late and he is able to escape.

I downloaded a .pdf file of Welcome to the NHK and it worked pretty good. It's a shame it's so hard to find because I'd a phyical copy.
I recommend A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier.

I like that book a lot too! I also recommend George Orwell's 1984, Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood, Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude (difficult book to read but the ending makes it more than worthwhile) and JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye.
