I've actually come to hate the sun. It's too damn bright and hot.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
The glare from the sun burns the hell out of my eyes so I can never stay awake during the day unless I block all sun from my room.

I prefer night. My brain works better at night, day is also too bright.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I am absolutely not a sun-lover. My natural sleeping schedule regularly ignores the sun.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
For the most part. I'm tired all the time anyway though. But that's because I function on 4-5 hours of sleep at a time, per probably every 14 hours or so?
I love the night time though. I feel more at home in the dark, when it's quiet, and a little cold. I'm completely in love with the moon and stars too. As a musician it's very visually inspiring.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I used to have what is called Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder which is like being nocturnal. I use to sleep at ridiculous hours and people would call me nocturnal. Ever since I was put on medication I've been better though. Now I go to bed at around 3 AM and sleep till about 2:30 PM.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I went for sort of--I hate bright lights and heat and the noise that comes with the day, but I'm afraid of the dark like a three-year-old. I don't sleep during the day because I like it better, I sleep then because of a combo of insomnia and the electric lamps being too bright but the dark being too scary and the sunlight seeping through my blinds being just about right.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
No, I'm not nocturnal. I have thought at times that I had Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, but I now believe that my sleep irregularity was caused by the stimulation of artificial lights, TV, and computer keeping me awake longer. I'm now on a bit of an experiemnt to live without artificial lights (at night at least, I still use them during the day). So far it seems to be helping. For those of you who claim to be nocturnal: have you ever tried not using artificial lighting to see if your nocturnality persists? My guess would be that you'd return to being diurnal very quickly.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I'm not too sure, but i think i am. Jackal: Although i rarely tried (forced by blackouts) i think it's more that i am more active/artistic/creative/inspired at night. I think most creative or artsy types are like that .

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I still go to bed pretty late (3 AM), but it's much better then it use to be. Ever since I was put on medication I've been able to sleep much better. I think it had a lot to do with my schizophrenia. You know how when you listen to a good song you get it stuck in your head? Well that was kind of what I was going through. I would always have a song, or something playing in my head that was keeping me up. Now that I'm on medication I'm able to sleep fine.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
Maybe so. Indeed, I would imagine that the period between first and second sleep would be an excellent time for creative thought! It is so dreamlike and relaxed, perfect for letting the mind wander into ethereal regions. I am curious to see if my own sleep patterns will become segmented now that I am attempting to live a more natural existence with regards to the day/night cycle as dictated by the sun.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
Yes, I've tried. However, I did not become dinural. I was on a farm with no electricity for 2 months once. I would spend the nights doing nothing but looking outside and thinking, or wandering around the village.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I keep to mostly 'normal' sleeping hours out of habit. Not that I actually go out in the sunshine, if I can avoid it.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I used to be like the OP, 6am to 4pm but for the last month I've managed to flip that around. So I have a normal sleeping routine. Thats actually a really cool idea there Jackal, hope it helps.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I used to only sleep from 7am to around 5pm. spending all night up was pure hell, nothing to do and nothing to watch on tv after around 11pm. Dont think I even had the internet connection at that point.
I think caffine was partly the problem, since then ive stopped drinking anything after 7pm, and my meds help shut of my mind.

Right now yes. It's a beautiful morning, I just watched the sun rise over the lake. Goodnight.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I'm mostly something in between. It's much easier for me to stay awake all night than waking up early in the morning, but I wouldn't call myself nocturnal anymore. I usually sleep from 3 am to 11 am. I used to prefer night because I felt free, noone there to tell me what to do and how, that time was only for myself.

 Re: Are you Nocturnal?
I am very nocturnal. I don't like daytime or sun, or brightness. But I love the darkness, the night sky, and nighttime itself. I love being awake during the night and hate being awake during the day.
