I include that word almost exclusively to make it easier for people to find this place; it's a novelty word that has lots of power in Google. When people look it up in Google, this place shows up high in search results due to its common use on this site. The word "Shut-in", for example, has much less power in Google than "Hikikomori" which is why I opted to use "Hikikomori" instead. I could omit that word from the subtitle and we'd have fewer Japanophiles showing up here, but we'd also have a lot fewer users in general showing up here which wouldn't be good. Anyway, I don't care if otakus show up here as long as they don't join this place just to talk about anime and/or glamorize the hikikomori phenomenon. By the way, for the record: I'm far from being an otaku/Japanophile. I don't understand Japan worship and am actually quite bothered by how so many Westerners worship Japan while ignoring every other Asian country. I'm saying this because I'm guessing that the reason you posted all those emoticons is because they're Japanese-styled and you likely think that I chose them just to be a weaboo. But I'll let you know that I didn't choose those emoticons because they're Japanese-styled. I looked through hundreds of emoticons to use here and picked those because they were some of the cleanest-looking emoticons I came across. | | | | |
I never singled out anyone for being a weeaboo, and judging by your other posts, you never came across as one. As for the smilies, what if you want to smile but you don't want to show the expression of an affectionate, "kawaii", japanesey, rosey cheeked rice ball. Why do all the smiles have to have their eyes such as ^_^. These things look like they belong on an anime forum where the users add suffixes such as "chan" to each others names while they fight over which anime characters are in love with them.

Ha ha, do I really have to be that guy who hyperlinks to his own smilies? I'd rather just not use smilies at all. (: See there's a nice standard "I want to smile but I'm not overly joyous and charmed by what you said smile".

 Re: Welcome to the NHK
Aren't you being exagerate about this? the only occasion in which i connected the HC smilies with anything anime... Is when you commented about it here. Aside from that, i think the reason why these smilies are like this is because their design is simple, schematic, stylish and effective, just as you would want out of an internet smiley i think (you know, fast simple communication through the world, i think universal symbols like a smile or a tear help to comunicate) I feel that the reasons why that might overlap with some animation styles is pretty evident. I do feel there are some few things which can be a little better tough (not always when i want to blush i would want the smiley to be a happy one for example) but these are minor things. I don't think i need to comment that i just don't see the same forum you're seeing when you write the "These things look like they belong on an anime forum where the users add suffixes such as "chan" to each others names while they fight over which anime characters are in love with them." part, sorry but i just don't see what you mean .

 Re: Welcome to the NHK
I watched this anime in 2008, learned that hiki. It happened accidentally, anime never was interested. Next couple of years tried to forget what I saw.

 Re: Welcome to the NHK
I only saw the first 3 episodes but I'm currently reading the novel that it's based on and I love it.
