 I Got Another New Job
So I've been vying for a position at a local hospital the last few weeks; heard they were hiring and sent my resume. Interviewed on Wednesday with the executive chef and yesterday I had orientation/my first training day. So, I got the job. I start next Monday officially as training day number 2, after working all day on the weekend at my old job, which I now must quit. So that will kind of suck, but this new job guarantees 2 off days per week, in a row, and I still get 40 hours, so I'm happy about that. It's also less work overall than I do now- a lot more help and everyone seems to be on the ball pretty good. I think it'll be pretty good overall, but it's a new place and I don't know anyone yet, so it'll take a bit of time to blend in and get used to things. They do everything a lot differently than I am used to, but I figured as much. I didn't do too badly yesterday, just mistakes i made cause I'm not sure what's going on yet, hehe.

High five! Hospital jobs are sick! Not hospital sick. Good sick. Especially when you're in a kitchen, away from germy people.

Oh, hi Quasar, had been away for a few days. Good to hear you've got a new job. Perhaps you couldn't take any more of that old woman in the psychiatric ward

<Quasar> Lady holds up a foll of tp... says to pretend we are in a survival scenario where we have to share this roll amongst the six of us <Quasar> To each take enough for 3 days but leave enough for the others > like tp is the priority when you're in a "survial scenario" [19:35] > zombies! <Quasar> I jokingly said that I should be hardcore and take 1 piece, but ended up taking more > no problem, i have tp! <Quasar> I should have taken 1, hehe <Quasar> Cause we had to say something about ourselves for every piece [19:36] of tp > ...then look awkwardly around and say, "Well, i eat a lot of fiber..." ....... <Quasar> If that scenario comes up, take 1piece ....... <Quasar> A treee died for that roll

Re: I Got Another New Job
Thanks everyone! I totally forgot I made this thread, . Yesterday was my first official training day. Was pretty nuts, but all kitchens are. But the nuttiness is definitely less than my old job as my job duties are so much less than they used to be. It's just a matter of remembering how many things I need to make each day. They said for my first day I did really good so I think I'll be okay by the end of this week. It is a full time position, but I get a guaranteed 2 days off per week. Not sure who you mean- my last hospital and the current ones don't have a psych ward/hall or anything. Some places do. I've been in several nursing homes where they'll have a whole wing dedicated to the crazies and they keep it closed off to everyone. With that said, I've seen my share of nuts. I mainly just grew tired of the drive up there(30 minutes both ways, abouts) and the fact that it was getting to the point where I was doing -everything- cause a lot of people were lazy and not pulling their weight. An advantage to living so close to work is that the day doesn't seem like it takes as long. I go in at 11:30 CST and I have like 3 hours of freedom this morning. Took a few things out of context, hehe. For those of you looking for jobs- getting this new job, I learned a trick along the way. I don't know what drove me to do this, but about a week prior to sending my resume, I did quite extensive research on this location. I found inspection records from the state that told me pretty much every detail I needed to hit on my resume(and the rest came from other searches). I saw that it had been hit once last year on a sanitation violation, which really isn't as bad as it sounds. They nitpick us on everything. But seeing that made me realize that I sound mention cleanliness on my resume, which I put in the form of, "proficient at keeping a clean work environment". Which is probably the most important thing working in a kitchen. Because I had worked as a dietary aide for quite a while, I knew what other things to mention. I knew the job duties and the things that mattered and the only unneeded thing on my resume, for this new job, was that I used a cash register when we don't even have one. Yay! That means I no longer have to wait on the visitors that come up thinking the place is a restaurant. So, anyway, point is, before you send that resume... research, research, research.... I had said everything on the resume, so my "interview" was basically him asking me easy questions, me impressing him with my answers, and then him showing me around the kitchen.

Re: I Got Another New Job
Well, so much for that- didn't work out. I'm probably gonna go back to the old place, cause I'm done with this place. It's a joke.
