Those are pretty cool, kind of reminds me of album covers or booklets!

Here's one I did a few years ago. It's sunrise from my patio in South Africa, looking over the Indian Ocean. The beach is about .8 miles from where I stood.
What I did was remove the foregound, which was all dark, and mirror the sky to it. Between the two, I repeated different parts of the photo in the outline of what had been dark foregound. I don't remember what software I used, might have been Gimp, which is what I use now.

Here's the original shot. It was taken 4:58 AM on 12/12/2006. Only at this time of year does the sun rise in view over the ocean. In about 20 days, it will be rising back behind the hill. My home office looked directly at this view :-) We had a 3 bedroom house plus pool, tiny guesthouse, garage, maid's quarters (converted to laundry) attached to garage, downstairs study and rec room, which opened to the pool. This is part of what I miss about South Africa.

Very cool stuff, I like this picture, I love the way the foreground is completely dark.
I wish I had some photos from brasil back in 2000, was the first and last time i left my homecountry.

What isn't apparent in the photo, that's a valley in the foreground. Our house was on the side of a hill (only about 40 meters above the beach level). The patch of light in the darkness is water. A small river flows to the ocean there (the Quenera river). If you look on Google Earth, find East London, SA. Follow the coast NE from the obvious harbor. The first river is Nahoon, it's fair size. Maybe a km further is Quenera. It may or may not be blocked by sand at any given time. Up the river valley and off to the left is a row of houses, looking all attached. The one with the pool was our place. The houses aren't attached, exactly. But the walls and garages are. It's a security thing. Security is important there.

I was told that the wild area beyond our back wall (facing the ocean) was full of snakes. I never saw any snakes around there. If they were there, they certainly would include rinkhals (spitting cobra). I never saw anything wild and dangerous around there except for wasps, some of which were highly annoying. Oh, monkeys were a pain, since they'd enter an open window, looking to steal fruit and especially bread. If you startle them, they may do damage trying to get out fast (happened once). Possibly a leopard could be around, but you're not likely to see them. The leopard is not especially endangered because they solitary and secretive, and hide in the trees. We did see one in Kruger Park though, but that was with a professionally guided safari, at night, and we shot photos with only their spotlight. Most of the other wildlife was bugs and birds. Fantastic variety of birds, including fish eagles (which look almost exactly like a bald eagle from America), heron, ibis (hadeeda), great hornbills, and many more. The bugs included locusts that were at ~10cm long (didn't measure, they were BIG).

Oh, and I did see a couple whip scorpions in the house. They are fascinating critters, that look extremely scary. But they aren't dangerous! No sting! They lack the tail you expect on a scropion, so they were more like spiders with pinchers. But when you suddenly see one on the floor, inches from your feet, you FREAK! An unexpected spider will, I confess, make me scream like a little girl. :-/

I don't actually have Photoshop because its costs a lot of money, but I have GIMP. I just recently got it so my stuff isn't that amazing. Just some simple color changing and stuff. I think it looks pretty good. :smile2

Irfranview is also a good program for quickie editing.

Yeah - Irfanview is highly capable. I recommend installing all plugins for it as you can add great functionality to the app like lossless JPEG cropping/rotating which is something that very few apps, including Photoshop, are incapable of doing.

Another great app is Paint.NET. It may not be as powerful as Gimp but it's a lot nicer to work with.

Maybe I'm not using it right, but I wanted to make fun of Content-Aware Fill :laugh
The video was originally made for a friend so because of the great quality of the video, you won't be able to see what there reads at the end.

I just tried to remove a stain but I'd need more than Content-Aware Fill to do that.

It sometimes doesn't work amazingly well, but in this case, I think the reason why it didn't work is because you included some of the animal's fur in the lasso selection. You may have to experiment with the tool a little bit, or maybe watch videos on how to use the tool effectively. I still haven't really learned any methods on how to go about using it.

With that pic, I'd likely just stick to using the clone stamp tool as I find that content-aware fill tends to work best on skies and vegetation.

I know, I haven't really even tried to learn how to use it, but it wasn't as simple as it looked in the introduction video. :yes

I tried to make myself look like Robert Smith of The Cure.

At this point, I know how to use every tool in Photoshop. I mostly use the app for touching up images and doing random silly stuff.

If there's anything else I could learn about PS, it would be additional masking techniques, but I currently know the most effective methods. Masking is a bitch. It takes a lot of patience. You must know which masking techniques to implement with the types of photos you're working with. You also must avoid using noobish tools like the Magic Wand tool, or the Quick Selection tool as those tools aren't the "proper" tools for achieving good masks - trust me.

Anyway, I made some pretty cool minimalistic HC banners:

Here are some less minimalistic variations:

I really like the clover and think it fits in nicely. The clover is a highly symbolic thing which shouldn't only be associated with drunken Irishmen.
