 Least Favorite Author?
Do you have an author whose writings you really don't like?, i would like to say one, but i really don't have one, i think i should adventure more into literature.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
I think Arthur Clarke has written a few really good books but he's written an awful lot of crappy ones. And Dan Brown follows a boring and predictable formula in every book.

They all suck because reeding iz 4 faggots.
I dunno . . . there are quite a few books that I just couldn't get into. Can't really think of any authors to list here, though.

Stephenie Meyer. Yes, I know it's a cliched answer. I don't care.

To be honest? I'mma go with Tolkien. Amazing world, with an amazing story, with -extremely- posh language.

Paulo Coelho.
At least he's the generally most popular author of the authors that I dislike. I just do not understand why people think his books are so good. All I see in them is fluffy, self-evident clichés about life and bad writing.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
Stephen King. Not that his stories are bad, but I simply don't like this particular kind of writing. Every line in every book looks the same to me and it just feels all hollow. From my point of view, it lacks the most important thing: soul/spirit/whatever you want to call it. He has a nice way to create a picture, but the colours are numb. Personally, I can't stand most of his works also, but I'm pretty fond of "The Alchemist". There are passages in it, that I would have simply thrown away and at some points, I even considered to stop reading, however, I found myself happy that I finished it. At the time I read this, it provided me with what I needed. I think, from time to time it's can be helpful to face an opinion that you without second thought disagree with. Even, when I couldn't stand the passages about god and stuff, it's still about reconsidering the very own assumptions and basically it's just a story about a lonesome fellow trying to follow the path of what he considers the right thing to do. It gave at least the bit of strength I needed to go on. However, my perspective might have been influenced by my situation back then. Maybe I should just reread it sometime.

cormac mccarthy. not because he's a bad writer, but because he's a good writer that slowly but surely sold the fuck out... looking at his wikipedia page. harold bloom, who can write a hell of an essay, nonetheless proves to have terrible taste: For one thing, A Light in August occurred after As I Lay Dying (and mccarthy, true to wont, ripped some'a that one off too in outer dark), and Suttree was before Blood Meridian, which (Suttree), again, is imitative, but a lot better than the shockNawe of blood meridian, no country for old men, and --- worst of all --- the road. mccarthy: the author i love to hate.

I was gonna say the same. My family members disagree with me for some reason. Well they agree with me to an extent where they can still like him. Although I liked the Alchemist enough to read a couple more of his books which I didn't appreciate.

William Golding. Fuck you lord of the flies.
But there's so much symbolism that parallels to how we live in society!
I don't give a fuck, don't make me read that book again. And sucks to your ass-mar.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
For me there is no such thing as a favorite author. Even if the author is very famous or popular, only a specific book.

Will no doubt forget someone here, but here are some authors I will never try again:
William Shakespeare.
Knut Hamsun.
Robert Reed.

J. D. Salinger. The Catcher in the Rye was really boring, almost couldn't get through it. And ditto to William Golding. I really hated the Lord of the Flies.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
ugh, I don't even have to think twice, Cassandra Clare 100%.
I'm horribly addicted to ya novels, I know, terrible, you can shun me if you like. But when so many people started recommending Cassandra Clare novels to me I thought 'hey, they have to be at least decent right?' wrong. Not only does she right with the mind of a 12 year old girl, her characters are so bad, I can't even begin to explain it. The fact that her books are widely popular and goodreads voted her as "best goodreads author of 2011" made me lose faith in humanity even more which I thought was not possible.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
Hermann Hesse.
I hate, hate, hate Hermann Hesse*. He's the dime novel writer among respected German authors. I would not even let him sign my toilet paper.
*I have to admit that I tend to begin to dislike people who read his books voluntarily - some even claim to do it with pleasure, eeks.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
You know, I've tried reading his books before because a lot of people rave about him, but I never made it past a couple of pages and I never knew why. I know I was reading translations, but it was very uninteresting prose to me. It didn't draw me in at all.

 Re: Least Favorite Author?
I'm going to have to go with Robert Jordan. I liked the first half dozen or so books of the Wheel of Time series, and read up until book 10, but I felt it was such a let-down that I've not bothered reading the rest, even though Brandon Sanderson, whose books I really enjoyed, has written the last few.
