I'm afraid of doorbells and phonecalls. I hate to chat with other people.

Doorbells and phone calls, especially anonymous phone calls. I just stare at the phone in a sort of panic and NEVER answer, well... i sometimes don't/can't even answer people i have in contacts.

I generally feel annoyed than anxious, because I'm usually in my nightgown. I usually never answer the door. I have headphones on all the time- I can blame it on that. lol

I have to be fully dressed with normal clothes (street oriented), or look the least bit nice (not shaved usually = panic), or feel calm and strong (better days). I use the headphone excuse a lot, that and the WC. :hot

I actually do... i doesn't help all that much! Now i just stare at the screen evaluating the whole situation, "why is here, what does he want, wtf is that in his hand?!" Last time was a package being delivered, i literally jumped of the bed THEN i woke up (lol) and ran to the cam screen... ruined my day. Didn't answer of course...

Nowadays, its better, people ring downstairs, they can't see me or ear me move, but a few years back i lived in an apartment building, the doorbell was just the same as "frightening", but the worst part was people could come up the stairs and KNOCK/RING at my door, sometimes i would be in the same room as the door (had 2 doors) and i would freeze in panic, blood rushing all over, trying not to make a sound. Light on in the hallway? TV making noise? "oh crap they know I'm in here! Hide!" :confused

I have the same problems with the doorbell. Telephone, too.
If I hear some noise around my house, i`m kind of in an alarmmode. If it`s ringing, me and my girlfriend and the dog are very alarmed, we jump up and she is going to the door most of the times.
When i lived at my parents home i never opened the door. Must have something to do with my social anxiety.

Post Re: Door bell
During the time I've lived alone I've become irrationally wary of the doorbell, phone calls, even letters and e-mails and such. Whenever I'm unexpectedly contacted in any way, my first thought is that something's wrong. I get a strange panic and adrenaline rush that won't go away until I know what it's about. I often don't answer the door or the phone in these situations, but not knowing who it was bothers me a lot afterwards. :unsure

Usually this results in a rush of anxiety and irritation, mixed 60:40. Keeping silent until it's gone seems a acceptable choice to me.

In the past I could never open the door, but we live in a building so we had to talk through the intercom which obviously was a no go for me. Now I can answer the door, but I feel the need to open it as soon as possible so whoever rang is not annoyed for waiting at the door. On another note I hate my phone. I can't call anyone outside my close family without rehearsing the conversation and my phone rings all the time. It's a smartphone so whenever i get an email (couple of times a day) it rings and when I receive a call I get agitated trying to answer promptly. Alas these are the down sides to enjoying the internet outside my apartment. Sigh....
