This is the vid that first introduced me to Hatsune Miku and Vocaloid! I saw it on George Dvorsky's Sentient Developments blog I think. Love it :)

I like the music, but not the voice. It's squeaky & hard to listen to. I had never heard of them until this post before, btw lol.

I don't like Vocaloid too much. Most of the music just doesn't appeal to me, and the fan base can be irritating like most agents of otakuness. Then again I rarely like computer generated vocals.
Actually Gumi's voice isn't that bad because at least she sounds human-ish.

Never thought I'd say this, but I prefer humans.

Actually for me it was quite the opposite and from time to time I find it very soothing to listen to some nice music without being reminded of a human face. I tend to create something like a landscape or a picture in my mind when concentrating on it so I can't help myself but nearly everytime I listen to something with vocals imagining the person singing it. Quite disturbing sometimes..
Also the whole Vocaloid thing has a lot more fans as one might guess, so there is a wide range of styles to be found. Mostly electronic or rock but even stuff like decent jazz is to be found. I highly recommend.

Post Re: Vocaloid
It's too "fun" for my liking; I can only listen to stuff like this once in a while. The singer being fake makes it hard for me to relate to it let alone take it very seriously. Also, I, like Aconcit, am not particularly fond of computer-generated vocals.

I'll admit that fun music like this can be good to listen to from time to time, but it gets boring very quickly. My definition of "fun" music is any type of music that isn't very deep and meaningful . . . stuff like most rap, electronic, punk, "pop" (I think this vocaloid stuff would fall into the pop/electronic category), etc. that I've usually much difficulty being able to take seriously and listen to solely for the musical content and not the lyrics/vocals (there obviously are exceptions though).

I actually agree that most Vocaloid stuff out there is just "fun music", however for the sake of disrupting the image I even had myself for long time I'd like to add the following since it made me realise some certain things and might prove itself interesting/useful for someone else:

Post Re: Vocaloid
For once I'd like to revive this odd little topic in order to share something more than just a mere song.
Most Vocaloid songs are in itself completed stories, but still there are examples to be found that span over multiple chapters or even refer to one another.
Such an example I wish to provide here.

I can't really expect anyone to actually go through the effort to sit and listen through all this, still it's my intention to leave this little musical and somewhat-philosophical journey behind here for anyone that feels like it.
Enjoy a little story of questions and maybe even answers.

Comment: Personally I don't believe this to be the answer. It's the question.0:54 The Ruler of the Night refer to the first song
2:50 Promised stability refers to the second
2:53 Songstress creating 0 (zero) disappearance refers to the 3rd and 4th

I love Japanese music, but I've never been able to get into vocaloid. It just sounds too similar to autotune and I hate autotune. I do however like the vocaloid songs used in the anime Honto ni Atta Reibai Sensei.
