Post Final Fantasy XIV Reconstruction
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/thre ... 20-2011%29

They're completely redoing FFXIV it seems. Back when I had the money, I dropped a Benjamin on the collector's edition of the game. In recent months I've decided that abusing alcohol is a much better alternative to this game. I really really wanted to like XIV, but I just... couldn't. Tired gameplay coupled with terrible optimization made me say "fuck it, more FFXI". But then XIV's failure made me say "You know, just fuck XI too."

XIV has no monthly subscription fee and as such you can just buy the base game and continue to play until you stop giving a shit. Let me quote the /v/ thread I where found that link.

>All-new Job system
>Old Armoury System abolished - no more physical levels/xp points for Jobs
>Job-specific weapons and armor
>Mount system - ride chocobos as well as other creatures
>Seasonal events
>Job quests / AF armor
>All-new 'Grand Companies' system (3 faction system)
>'Grand Company' missions / ranks / story quests
>Complete UI overhaul
>Larger party size
>Characters can now jump
>Characters can now swim
>Achievements system
>All-new 'Materia Crafting' system
>Guildleve rebalancing
>Synthesis recipes retooled
>Repair system improved
>Auction House system
>Toggle headgear on/off
>Reformed battle system
>Auto-attacks
>Aggro system revised for tanking
>Crowd control actions retooled and more important for group play
>More unique animations and effects for weapon skills
>Retooling of stats and equipment bonuses
>Frontier hubs
>Enemy attributes and drops completely redone
>Larger diversity in enemies
>Beast tribe settlements and strongholds
>Optimization of enemy sizes
>Notorious Monsters added
>Instanced PvE dungeons/raids (with more released periodically)
>Epic Ifrit storyline / battle (first of many 'Primal' raids)
>Level up fanfare
>Improved mini-map
>Camera usability improvements
>Improved targeting mechanics
>pop-up help system
>Improved configuration menu
>Behest rebalanced
>Market area more stable
>War & Magic classes more 'unique'

Think this'll make you want to play the game?

i don't play mmos and with the disaster that was 13 i won't be playing new final fantasy games until i can get them used. so no, it's not for me. i'm surprised that it's getting such negative reveiws since i thought FF12 and 13 bit the big one but everyone else seemed to be in this state of denial that FF can do no wrong. perhaps if a anthropomorphic girl showed off cleavage and asscheeks it would be more popular? i dunno.

No.

Final Fantasy in general just doesn't do it for my anymore...60+ hours to finish a game where 99% of it is just mashing A in random battles for a, generally, lackluster plot and annoying characters isn't worth it. I've never played XI or XIV, but I just imagine it as that, but endless.

I used to play xi a long while ago, ever since a few friends quit I also did too. We got xiv but it was pretty horrible, I didn't really mind it to be honest, but it really did leave a bad taste for a lot of people. I deleted my account a while back so probably not going to return.

As for ff13, I didn't really like it either, I don't really like the current writer/director on some of their projects (Motomu Toriyama: 3rd birthday, ffx-2, and director of ff13), so I suspect I just don't like his influence, versus will be the next game I will get from SE, since that is the Nomura and Nojima team game (kindom hearts), if that's not working for me, I'd just blame it on their CEO and his bad management and probably that's it for me with SE =/

I also heard they have another MMO alongside with xiv that they want to release... but it's not announced so far. So I really question the company's direction.

I heard about that the other day as well and I gotta agree. Surely everyone remembers how terribly The Spirits Within bombed and how terrible the losses were. XIV made TSW look good. After that nightmare, they're really going to risk it again? They lucked out with XI. Let it go, SE. I'd be more willing to accept it if they went with a f2p model. There are ways to monetize a game that isn't "Give us $15 every month so you can log in."

They really need to just focus on what they have right now.
