I watched дом дураков (english: House of Fools) the other day.
I must say, along with Girl, Interrupted and Shine, it has to be one of the best (perhaps THE best) mental illness themed movie I've ever seen. Perhaps even my favorite movie of all time.

Anything with Edward Norton is relevant. My favourites are Fight Club (duh), Stone, American History X and Primal Fear.

Svankmajer's Sileni translates to Lunacy, and is a wonderful film with colourful scenes!

Just watched this film. Literally got over 10 minutes ago.
No idea where to post about it.. could go in 5 threads.

Has to be my favorite movie.
One of them psychological thrillers/mystery that you can't describe the basic plot with less then 10 paragraphs.

The movie highly reminded me of here. Hikiculture through out.
and also of myself. Scary enough, of all the suicides I've watched in the pass on shock websites.

Has to be the most dark... disturbing.. psychotic film I have ever seen. I loved it.

If you can relate with any.. or all of the following?
Recluse.... Internet ... depression..... suicide.

then this is a must see.

9.5/10

Love the recommedations. I've seen several of the ones mentioned.

Didn't see anyone mention Canvas. Has anyone seen it?
It's good. I saw it at least a couple years ago. It'd be nice to see it again.

Probably around the same time I also saw Loverboy. Has anyone seen it?
It's riveting, too.

The former is from 2006 with Marcia Gay Harden, Joe Pantoliano and Devon Gearhart. Marcia plays a wife and mother with schizophrenia.
The latter is a 2005 film which has Kyra Sedgwick playing a possessive woman who loves too much, with Dominic Scott Kay as her young son; features Kevin Bacon and Campbell Scott.

Haute Tension! Though I didn't like it all that much, everything through the course of the movie was nice to watch.

Post Re: Films with Mental Health Themes
A while back I came across a film called Clean, Shaven. If I recall correctly I missed the beginning but it caught my attention while flipping channels and it was really intense and substantive. However, I had to go do things so I didn't get to see the whole film. But I told my sister about it... and not too long after that she watched the film on her computer and since then it's she who recommends the film. lol
I've been thinking about it a lot more lately and I wish I could see it.

Post Re: Films with Mental Health Themes
There are tons- I find psychologically themed movies really interesting, although I tend to dislike most of them. Although it's fair to say, with movies, it should be expected that they are exaggerated and not 100% accurate. With that said, I can't always speak for the psychological bits (except for the Asperger's movies) personally, either.

I know a lot of people had mentioned Adam, which I think as far as the actor goes is one of the better portrayals of Asperger's with the details I think and I'd say is worth watching for that...however, the movie itself made me roll my eyes quite a bit and the ending was awful...obviously not made for someone with Asperger's. I didn't like Mozart and the Whale, I found that annoying to watch.
Mary and Max was...alright, I suppose, I don't really get the feeling that AS was really the main theme of it.

Anyways, more movies:

Rain Man (based off of Kim Peek, who wasn't actually autistic...although, it wasn't found out for sure until after the movie was made, is my understanding). I liked Rain Man, even though it triggered some stereotypes about autism.

A Beautiful Mind though is probably my favorite "mental health" movie, although that wasn't the reason I had watched it.

Sybil: About how the first case of MPD was diagnosed at a time when MPD wasn't a diagnosis.
Identity, although Identity isn't really about MPD, MPD is simply the surprise ending.

The Notebook (dementia)

These are all about autism or aspergers:
Ben x
Adam
Snow cake
Max and Mary
The boy who could fly
Mozart and the whale
After Thomas
