There are a number of old abandoned mining towns here in Montana, but I think they have all become tourist attractions! :greed

Nicely said and thanks for sharing. Some of these really hold the kind of atmosphere I appreciate so much. I actually have been at a site similar to the last picture; an old railway area from ww2.

Believe it or not, but I actually lived for nearly 2 years in something like this:

Yes, yes indeed. Thanks for the material and reviving my ambition pop.
An interesting development, strangely disturbing and definitely worth looking into, in my opinion.

Some collected stuff considered interesting by me:

former military base Chuchkovo

found on russian site http://www.liveinternet.ru/community/2216771/rubric/773666/

japanese ghost town Gunkanjima

random collection

Some other interesting pictures are of the Six Flags New Orleans, an amusement park which was abandoned after Hurricane Katrina.

There are some interesting photos here - http://www.lovethesepics.com/2011/05/cr ... s-75-pics/

and many more photos and videos are around like this one

Post Re: Ghost towns and abandoned buildings
Oh hell yeah, I LOVE abandoned buildings and to explore them. =D
But here in Germany there aren't so many of that afaik. But in my city of origin is an old factory abandoned 20 or more years ago, where they developed safes. The huge and heavy ones. There are still left some of them in that building. But theres another stuff, people dumped there. Books, broken computers, clothes and so on... The city want's to prevent people entering the factory, but they can't. No one cares about that homeless people sleep in there or that some curious persons like me explores it. There's nothing valueable left in there anyway. But I wasn't in the basement because I didn't had a flashlight.
But it's still fun to walk there around, reagardless if there's just a bunch of junk left in there. I usually spend three or more hours to explore the factory.

Well, I would love it to explore the area around Chernobyl with a geiger counter, night vision goggles and a backback to take some nice souvenirs with me.
But the city and area is guarded and if they caught you, they'll probably sentence you to prison for that. And I doubt ukrainian prisons are a good place being imprisoned. So, it's not worth it.

I just found this today which is an interesting read.

Quote:
Inside Japan's nuclear ghost zone

Nothing stirs in the empty heart of Tomioka, a community of 16,000 now reduced to the eerie status of a ghost town after the nuclear disaster at Fukushima.

I went exploring an old flour mill this weekend. Fairly small and not a whole lot to see but was still interesting seeing it since there isn't a whole lot of abandoned buildings like it in the area. I kinda want to go back with some spray paint to add to the graffiti. :naughty

this kinda reminds of a long abandoned (since the 1800s) ice house off of the North Watuppa Pond (Fall River MA); theres a road to actually get back there, although i havnt been in that area for a few years

heres a rather ambiguous image
http://neprhauntedhistory.weebly.com/uploads/6/8/7/8/6878634/7043932.jpg

and heres a link to some amazing photos of it http://wiki.worldflicks.org/old_fall_ri ... house.html

and this is the old road to get there (its goes to a large reservation; keep in mind this is all less than a mile from densely populated neighborhoods of 10,000+ people per square mile)

while im at it il try to find some images of a long abandoned amusement park thats also within a few miles of here; this is Lincoln Park in nearby Dartmouth Massachusetts, just search it if you want more

Yeah, old rundown houses are always interesting. This mansion from the mid-1800s was on a huge secluded property across the street from where I used to lived:

I went up to that house when I was about 12 but never went back again.

I'd really like to find an actual ghost town. I only know of several abandoned buildings, but they're all in urban areas so it's not as exciting. I live close to this place though, people call it the "match factory", apparently that's what it used to be :p

I'm interested in visiting Detroit, MI and other larger cities with substantial ghost sections.
