thats a rather stupid comment. people in insane asylums cannot interact with their environment properly and are most probably unable to talk about philosophy. plus you are not allowed to go there if you are not visiting someone you know. its something totally different than reading this note

I read the first 25 pages or so and there's a handful of references to Nietzsche. Perhaps it's not like that for the entire document but I assume that anyone taking a cursory glance would decide the author was quite taken with him.

It is intriguing. That he spent 5 years working on his suicide note and went through with it based on his beliefs. I know I wouldn't have that much to say in my own, and it certainly wouldn't ennoble the act. I didn't find choosing death the obvious conclusion to draw from what I read in the first 25 pages however, rather that the fear of death should be no inhibitor; of course, you would have to pretend that things like pain don't exist for that to be the case. Choosing death seems rather at odds with his initial assertion, that no state should be preferrable to any other. By choosing death is that not showing it deference? Death comes anyway, let it wait.

Not meant to be taken literally you fool. I was implying that Mitchell Heisman was obviously very disturbed, and nothing in his long document is worth reading.


Have you ever read any Nietzsche? Even through an English translation you can tell he was a brilliant writer and thinker.

I think the idea is brilliant. Spend 5 years working on a 2,000 page manuscript, then kill yourself and distribute it as a "suicide note". If the work itself had been a good read, it might have been worth it. Though it sounds like it wasn't. Too bad. What a waste of a good idea. Now if anyone writes something worth reading and publicizes it in the same manner, they'll be written off as a pathetic imitation of a failure.



(I realize my thoughts on this matter may be offensive, but I believe that suffering, or even dying, for one's creative or intellectual pursuits is a good thing . . . might not be what was going on here, but it's still relevant.)

my first reaction to this was pretty similar yours ivorooo. guy can't get his books published, compiles them into one, and decides that maybe people will pay attention to it if he does something dramatic, so he chooses suicide instead of something like arson because people are afraid to bash a dead guy, particularly a dead guy who died for this work. (perfect example: i'm the only person i know who has the balls to say that heath ledger sucked as the joker)

after looking it over i'll say that the world is better off without the jackass. with chapter titles like "How Rome was Raped by Jesus’s Penis of the Spirit, Contracting a Deadly Virus" and "Supernigger" wrote in a common pop psychology style how could anyone take this seriously? he doesn't philosophically explore anything because he is incapable of it. he doesn't comprehend nihilism so why write a book about it? this is a fucking joke and it reads like fox news sounds.

Really? I thought it was dry and boring as hell to read. I downloaded the pdf and tried to give it a go, but I couldn't make it very far. I respect the guy in the same sense that Ivory and MI do in that I tip my hat to anyone who'll off themselves for something intellectual or of personal value, but it really was boring to read. Same goes for the bible. People place so much value on it, but damnit if it isn't one of the most boring things ever. Either way, I don't see the point in writing a huge manuscript centered around nihilism ( ). Off to bed I go!

I usually feel bad when hearing about people killing themselves, but this guy's "experiment" pissed me off. This isn't news-worthy IMO. He's just another person who killed himself for post-death fame without giving two shits about his family or friends.
