Why do you use the user-name you use?

For me, I use the user-name 'Chair' since I find that it sort of has a nice ring to it. So yeah.... There isn't really much of a story as to why I use this user-name, ha.

Skilpadde means turtle in Norwegian. Turtles have been a special interest my entire life. I find them fascinating and lovely animals. In addition I strongly relate to the withdrawing inside of a shell thing. I withdraw into myself a lot, very introvert personality.

That s an awesome word for a turtle.

Mine is the greek god of sleep, my favourite greek god. Even if it sometimes seem like a waste, it s still nice to just forget about everything for a while and just go to sleep.

People found me strange and so they called me Mad to be derogatory and Mick is a derogatory form of my name Michael.
So you can see that I stand out somehow. This was when I was young. People just ignore me now.

Skilpadde consists of 2 words, actually. Skil is either an old fashioned word or a distortion of the word shell (skjell in Norwegian) and padde means toad. I have no idea how these two came to be turtle!
I hope that didn't make it less awesome. ;)

I googled your user-name back when I was a member of AFF SkilPadde. I was curious to know what the hell that word meant. A bunch of turtles came up in Google Image Search and I was kind of confused.

Could it be because it's the Norwegian word for turtle?.

Well, "shell-toad" makes perfect sense! I mean, parts of it kinda looks like a frog to an unknowing observer. Or maybe "skil" derives from shield/skjold -> "shield-toad"! Shield-toads are pretty cool, too bad it's illegal to keep them in Norway. Though I think you CAN get special permission? Eh, I prefer dogs anyway.

I have heard that it's really hard to get that permit. I hate that law. I'd love to have a turtle! I love all animals but I'm allergic.

That makes it even more awesome, a shell-toad describes it perfectly. I ve often wondered what a turtle would look like without a shell. You take it away and i guess it would just be a large toad.

My name means "I don't use a name" in Japanese......

I like to change my name constantly, so I have the habit now of not having an actual name as a username..... :3

And unlike on the other hiki forum, THIS time I got the romaji right. XD

I found a tortoise in my garden once, but my parents made me release it back into the wild.

My name was chosen at random from the periodic table of elements. All my computers are named after elements from the periodic table as well.

Thank you - finding a turtle in my back yard was cool, although I didn't quite realise how cool it was until I was older (I was 7 at the time that it happened).

In response to your question: A couple of weeks ago, my answer would have been quite different to the one that I will give now. I used to be the sort of person that kept all of his/her computers running at the same time, and kept three monitors on my desk. Sure, I didn't need all of them on at the same time, but I extracted some sort of pleasure from knowing that they were running - that I had so much processing power at my fingertips, even if they were just running MySQL servers that would never be queried, Apache instances which would never serve a single page. Recently, however, I decided to adopt a different approach. Instead of keeping all of my computers running at the same time in my room (which was around 7 computers and three laptops), I now only have three in my room. (One on my desk, one 'server', and one small laptop). They are called Magnesium, Lithium, and Mercury :)

What prompted my decision to alter my computing environment? Reading an article published in a hacker e-zine in which a retired hacker mentioned that he didn't keep any computers in his room anymore, as it frightened the ladies ;)

My other reason is an increasing desire for cleanliness and order (especially with regard to my desk). The next year in school will be academically very demanding, and I'll need all the desk space I can get :)

Notamber has been my user name for years now. It started out as a nick name when I was 14 (I am 21 now)
The story is that there are too many Ambers in the world and I was sick of being confused with them. So I was deemed not amber.

There was a monkey in the garden too, once. It was scampering along a power line and into the trees.

No. There are no turtles in Norwegian fauna. Some snakes and lizards, though. And amphibians. But no turtles.
