Post Most anticipated game of 2011
Not making a list since everyone's tastes are different and no list can cover them all.

For me the most anticipated games so far are:

The PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV Online

Shogun Total War 2

I would start FFXIV on Windows if I had a good enough PC, but right now my next priority is a design desk for my room which costs about as much as a decent gaming computer. When I buy a new PC it's going to be a monster, not just good.

Gears Of War 3.

It's the only game that stands out. I was obsessed with the first game and trying to get the 'seriously...' achievement, less so with the second game but I still played it a lot.

Zelda: Skyward Sword. I don't know a whole lot of games being released as I don't care much for modern gaming as a whole. I'm feeling positive about the 3DS. I felt that the DSi was a dumb idea and just for profit, but the 3DS appeals to me for some reason. Couple it with one of those flash carts that you can buy online, and you'd be in business!

Zelda: Skyward Sword
The Last Guardian
The 3rd Birthday
Final Fantasy XIV (PS3)
Shin Hikari Shinwa: Parutena no Kagami (Japanese version of Kid Icarus: Uprising)

final fantasy 14 online maybe.. but i'll have to wait for the ps3 version since i don't have a pc

i don't know any other video games coming out next year but hopefully there'll be another disgaea release soon. i played ff11 online which was fun. not sure if i want to dedicate my life to a video game again though. the last game i played was final fantasy 13 which i had a good time playing for about a two day period in march and for some reason haven't picked it up since 0__0

FFXIV Online is worldwide, as I understand it. No local/regional servers etc. We could all play together.

Tetsuya Mizaguchi's Child of Eden is my most anticipated at the moment. It's a spiritual successor to Rez on the PS2 which I loved because of the music and style being a central theme to the game, even if Rez was very short, COE looks to one up the game alone as a visual experience. Also I love my fighting games so Street FighterXTekken looks to be a blast.

Diablo III and The Old Republic if they're released this year... also looking forward to Guild Wars 2 but I have no idea when that's supposed to be released.

The Last Story is the only game I am really looking forward to atm. Final Fantasy XIII Versus looks tasty enough but Square Enix has trampled on my trust way too much for me to have any serious expectations at this point... Who knows it's probably going to take another couple of years to finish and play itself except for ocassional X-button-presses... Love the style so far, though, reminds me of FFVII *_*
Anyway... I want The Last Story! Go, Mistwalker, GO! <3

It would have been on my list too but if it comes out in 2011 and not second half of 2012, I'm going to be surprised.

The Last Guardian would be my most anticipated too, considering Diablo III will likely miss the year. The Shadow of the Collosus is an astounding game.

Yeah, I think so too. Artistically speaking, it's one of the best video games ever made.

The thing that impressed me first about it was the small details that went into making the horse move and feel like a real horse would. But, of course, there are many more things which make it a unique experience. I love how the player is left to their own to make sense of the world. The game doesn't lead you by the tooth and coddle you like most commercial releases these days. You're right it stands out on the merits of the craft that went into it. The gameplay is competent but doesn't have the sheer addictiveness of other titles, yet it's the beauty of the world is what involves you in it.

I had the exact same thoughts about the horse as well when I first started playing it. What I also found interesting about the game was the way it incorporated elements of traditional Japanese aesthetics into the game, particularly the aesthetics of sabi (solitude, loneliness) and mugen (mysterious, ethereal beauty). And I agree about the gameplay. Personally, I usually like games filled with non-stop hack-n-slash action a la God of War, etc., but like you I was too impressed by the sheer beauty of the game (and how many games are there out there that are truly beautiful?).

I think developers can often overlook secondary characters. I don't think it would occur to many that just by making the horse animated and tangible it becomes more than just the method of transport for the character. It becomes a companion and a character unto itself.

I can see what you mean about the traditional aethestics. The exploration is peaceful in its tranquility. Where in other games such sections would seem tedious, and usually circumvented entirely by warp-locations or level ends and cut-scenes, Shadow of the Collosus makes it an important aspect of the game. I think what saves the gameplay from becoming too dull is the way it shifts imperceptibly; between navigating the landscapes, to approaching and puzzling out the way to fight the beast and then the more action oriented gameplay of killing it. You hardly notice the divisions, unless you are really studying it.
