Post Protection against dust
How do I protect my computer against dust? My room gets dusty fast because I have a large persian rug as well as a chinese wall carpet. A computer going warm will contribute to even more dust.

I vacuum clean the room twice a week or so, but a computer will still suck up so much dust which can't be vacuum cleaned out. How do I minimize the accumulation of dust? Is there some protective container for stationary computers I can use, or can I be inventive somehow and make one myself?

There's not really anything that wouldn't greatly obstruct the air flow and cause more problems. The fan is sucking in dusty air, so, if you really want, you could do water cooling or submerse everything in vegetable oil or something, but it's probably more effort than it's worth.

Just blow it out with a can of compressed air once a week or so. That's about all you can really do.

If your computer can be taken apart, you could do that and clean out the components that way. It doesn't take much effort... :laugh

That's a great advice. Thanks.

Also, watercooled computers don't suck in as much dust? Does a watercooling system remove the need for a fan?

They sell vacuums specifically for computers. Here's a link to one. (Sorry if you've already heard of these or if you had already spoken of it & I just didn't understand.)

I tried it before without anything other than a piece of paper and my fingers to collect the dust, but If I get that compressed air or vacuum blower thing it will be a piece of cake I think. Only real problem is all the cables. I hate cables, seriously...

That's the kind of thing I was looking for I guess, without knowing what it was or where to get it. Thanks.

Yes, water cooled systems don't need fans, so theoretically it would take in less dust. I've never used it and I don't know tons about it, though. Either that, compressed air, or the vacuum thing seem like your best bet. I'd be slightly wary of the vacuum, just because they tend to cause static electricity which destroys hardware but I'm assuming that one was designed specifically to prevent that.

Some computer cases come with a dust filter built into the front bezel. This will not stop all dust from getting in, but it helps a lot.

If your case does not have this feature, you could possibly replace the fans in your case with ones that have dust filters on them.

Also, water cooling systems generally have fans. The way a water cooling system works is to take heat from the components of your PC into the water, and then the water is circulated into a radiator with a fan attached to it. There are "fanless" water cooling systems, but these are less common. And even if you do have a water cooling system, that does not necessarily mean you want to do away with your chassis fans, as there are passively cooled components in your PC that still benefit from having some air circulating.

I love Dust on Computers. This I only Dust you do not know what dirt is real. At my Dust from the wall, never wipes when I see a small layer of dust. I am not a madman on the clean. I once had a very strong phobia washing hands until the skin started to get off of my fingers. Fortunately, I stopped in time. After months of steam. I love dirt ground garden. And it saved me. I meant the computer's system unit from outside.
