Re: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem?
The only workers I hold with a high amount of esteem are strippers, mercenaries and bartenders.

Ah, I get it now. Well, in that case I guess it would depend on the circumstances and preferences of each individual. But then I guess most people would get sick of doing the same job day in day out without change or progression.

Re: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem?
I care. I'm incapable of liking people for working hard. I don't get this whole "You must like this person because they work hard!" way of thinking. It disturbs me. I can't understand it just like I can't understand a thing like patriotism which is totally incomprehensible to me. If I should like people for working hard, then I might as well like people for a variety of other things. I may as well start liking people who grow beards, or something. How is the greedy moron who works hard solely to make fuckloads of cash a good person? I could care less if a person worked for 15+ hours a day. I wouldn't feel the need to congratulate the person or suddenly think "That's a good person". I actually find that most hard workers/workaholics tend to be unpleasant people. Hard workers are definitely far from being seen as "good" people in my eyes. If you work hard and are kind to people, then I'll view you as being a good person. If you're a hard working asshole, then I'll simply view you as being an asshole. Your work ethic won't make me change my views about you.

Re: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem?
I'll always respect those who can value the smallest things than those who feel they need to work for the better things. I guess I feel great when I get things done but I think it may just be a way to relieve my guilt.
I remember walking down by the bus station in Toronto and the guys in their suits walk past me giving me the dirt eye just because I look like I'm not dressed properly and careless. I really hate that. Actually the only type of people I'm sure to dislike are megalomaniacs who think they're worth more than others.

Re: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem?
I guess you can just ignore them, you don't have to like them. So you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem, unless they are assholes. I agree with that. The original question: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem? I answered yes. But what if they are assholes? Can their hard work compensate for their character flaw? hmm can't answer yet, I need more info. Then I would ask: Would them being an asshole be so in my face as to make it impossible to ignore? If the answer is yes then I'd say NO.

Re: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem?
I have this kind of argument with my mom sometimes. According to her, a person's worth is measured by how much work they've done in their life. Which also equates to how good of a person they are. To me, her logic is a load of bull. I pretty much stand by Chair's point of view on this topic. While I can show some respect towards someone who puts more effort into working harder than usual on their jobs, it's different when I would actually appreciate that person. If they couldn't care less about who they hurt in the process, they've pretty much lost anything I had for said person and anyone else who shared the same empathy.

I respect their work for the effort they put in, but it doesn't mean I respect the person. I know douchebags who spend hours at their job, but are offensive with social interaction or too smug and mighty about it.

Re: Do you hold hard workers with a high amount of esteem?
When I moved up to a higher english set, I realised how much more stuck up and douchebag-y the whole class was... Like there was no fun/funny/friendly class atmosphere, and When I got extra time in a test (because I was struggling) the whole class kept asking me why I got it, during that time, when they were supposed to be quiet... and I didn't have the time to be annoyed as I could've failed that test...
