Post Re: Which operating system do you use?
I'm saddened to see that the poll only allows one selection, I have several computers running many Operating Systems.

My s*** IBM Thinkpad runs on Windows 98 and is used for reading Ebooks in bed and playing classic PC games such as Quake 1, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Commander Keen etc etc, all of those ye olde time games that I played as a child that I still have the original (floppy) disks and CDs for.

I have two computers that run on Linux and are used to test other peoples possibly faulty hardware. (But they are currently in a million pieces)

The computer I regularly use runs on Windows XP simply because the hardware is so old that Pandora (yes I have given my computer a girls name, don't look at me like that!) that she can't run any other OS.

Also I have many, many, oh so very many (I can't stress that enough) PC parts just laying around my filthy flat that I need to work up the courage to sort them out, test them to see if they still work and chuck out those parts that don't work.

How do I have the money for so many computers? I don't :'( I have salvaged computers and computer parts from people who have thrown out their old computers, so I have all of the left overs of the previous technological age :(

Using Windows XP isn't so bad, I've been using it for years now.

Why haven't I answered this poll? Anyway, I have an iMac with OS X Snow Leopard.

I also have a laptop with Windows 7 but I don't use it much. In addition both machines now have VirtualBoxed Ubuntu 10.4. I'll need it later for programming.

My lappy runs Seven, my desktop runs Ubuntu, though I've been thinking once I move and have good internet back that I might upgrade to a more personalized, ridiculously complex linux distro. I have an extreme need to have the visual aesthetics on my computer be perfectly to my liking. Windows grates at me constantly, but I'm hoping more mods come out for seven soon.

...I also choose music player based on how much I can mod it and how many skins are available. I...yeah. :'(

same here. Personally, I think Vista 64 is much better, than most people seem to perceive it.

Ultimate rocks and basically everything is better than XP, in my opinion.

I normally use XP, but I'm using Puppy Linux right now and I really like it, once I got used to the lack of Windows fonts/cleartype, and Pidgin for an IM client.

Switched over to Win7 after I got my new laptop, the only thing I dislike about it is the constant asking for permission when I launch some programs.

got to either get to work in wine or a virtual box thing....
too much work.

Post Re: Which operating system do you use?
for all my linux fandom, recent events have shaken my confidence in its usability. i still highly recommend ubuntu to any windows user but with the following caveat: if you are not comfortable reading error messages and using your computer without a window system do not perform a distribution upgrade. back up and install the next release from cdrom.

for those that know: i just had to run dist-upgrade and -f install about four times before debian testing started working. in the middle of one of the upgrade runs, the whole thing crashed. I had to manually edit several files just to get the package manager to run after restarting while on pins and needles b/c i didn't backup the previous week or so. I'm getting soft; the x windowing system used to break all the time.

oh, also, ATI is apparently still evil despite being bought by AMD.
