Post Favorite art movement(s)?
What are you favorite art movements or styles?

Some of my favorite are Die Brücke (The Bridge)

Abstract expressionism, and Cubism.
I'm also interested in Dada, at least on a conceptual level. The Dadaists broke a lot of new ground which was very important.

I often hear about new art movements, but none seem to really be new or different. It seems like there hasn't been any real breakthroughs since at least the 1970s. I'd like to hear anyone else's take on this.
I mentioned modern art movements that are mostly associated with Europe... but post your favorite styles / movements from any time period or corner of the globe.

Impressionism for me I guess, both international and Australian Impressionism.

I dont really know why, I just like the style of painting, and the subject matter.
The Australian Impressionists in particular though really perfected a style of painting that was suited to the Australian landscape. Other early painters that tried to capture our landscape used European techniques, and tried to compose it like a European landscape, when the lighting and colour of the bush is totally different. So yeah, thats why I admire them, it was something like the 'golden age' of Australian painting :)

I mostly like modern decorative and photographic art. No particular movement or school.

French impressionism. Most of my favorite painters were pioneers of the French impressionist movement. Manet, Monet, and Renoir are my favorite painters, but Renoir has to be my favorite. Mostly everything by Renoir is a masterpiece. His portraits have so much life to them. His most lackluster paintings were his landscape paintings; most of them, for whatever reason, don't impress me.

I hate to admit it, but lots of the so-called masterful painters who painted religious-based paintings don't do anything at all for me. So most stuff from the 16th until 18th century doesn't do anything for me.

Someday I hope to get high-quality reproductions of my favorite paintings to put up on my wall. To have a lot of great paintings covering my walls would really change the atmosphere of my home.

Here are some of my favorites by Renoir:

Some of those paintings are well-known; some not so much.
