Post Sensory Processing Disorder (quiz -- LONG lol) for boredom
I was just told about this & given this link on another forum. It definitely encompasses a lot of my problems, though I still feel I have some sort of ASD. I decided to post it here in case anyone else wants to take it. This Sensory Processing Disorder just seems like another ASD to me because a lot of the questions asked are the same ones asked on ASD quizzes/surveys/questionnaires. I have high numbers on most of this, so according to it, I could have SPD lol.

It doesn't need to be taken seriously, it can be taken just to help ease boredom lol

Here's the site with more info:
http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processing-disorder-checklist.html

Here's the link to the Adolescent & Adult SPD Checklist (where the quiz came from)
http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/adult-SPD-checklist.html

Article:
Quote:
Please use this adult SPD checklist as a guide only. This is NOT meant to officially diagnose Sensory Processing Disorder. It should be used ONLY to indicate the "red flags" that may warrant attention; i.e., further observation, evaluation and/or treatment. It can also be used as part of the questionnaire and history gathering process during an evaluation by an OT qualified to diagnose and treat adults with Sensory Processing Disorder.

If you are concerned after going through the checklist that you or your teenager's life may be significantly impacted by sensory processing issues, please contact a local Occupational Therapist. For hints, tips and tricks on how to find one, read finding an OT . Again, disorder means that it is SIGNIFICANTLY interfering with ones ability to perform daily activities (work, rest, or "play"/leisure)

An open mind may help you see that what appeared to be a "mental health", "behavioral", or "compulsive" behavior or issue may actually be based on inefficient sensory processing. As with any "problem", it will not get better until you know the cause! Treat it for what it actually is... no more "band-aids".

ALL of you will check off several of the items on this checklist, as many of them indicate normal sensory preferences or difficulties. That does NOT mean you have SPD. Look at HOW MANY you have checked off, the AMOUNT OF HIGH NUMBERS you indicated, WHICH SENSORY SYSTEMS are targeted, and HOW MUCH they impact your everyday FUNCTIONING.

Also, keep in mind, many of these symptoms can be indications of other disorders and mental health issues. It is the clusters and intensity of symptoms that we are looking for here, as they apply to, and are based upon sensory stimuli.

Again, if you feel these sensory processing issues are significantly impacting your life (pay attention to FREQUENCY, TIMING, AND DURATION), I urge you to seek a knowledgeable professional for help. AND, if you are really bothered by sensory issues, you may also want to think back to childhood, or earlier years, and fill out the Sensory Processing Disorder Checklist For Kids .

Keep in mind, the more information you can give the evaluator, the more accurate your diagnosis and treatment will be. If concerned, keep journals and bring that, and these checklists to your Doctor, Psychologist, or Occupational Therapist who is familiar with SPD to decide if an evaluation and further treatment is indicated.

Check off the following "behaviors" and sensory preferences if they are a part of YOUR life, and rate how often each applies to you, on a scale of 0-5 ("0" being NEVER, "5" being ALWAYS).

SPD is often comorbid with ASDs, that's why they seem so similar. SPD is not an ASD in itself, its just a separate label given to sensory problems that often goes with ASDs.

That quiz was not really a quiz, I have top copy/paste,but here you go:

__5 __ bothered by clothes; certain materials, tags, seams, pantyhose, ties, belts, turtlenecks, have to wear shorts, skirts, or pants exclusively, etc.

__5__ bothered by "light touch"; someone lightly touching/rubbing your hand, face, leg or back

__ 4__ distressed by others touching you; would rather be the "toucher" than the "touchee", difficulty "snuggling" with your partner

__ 5__ have to fidget and "fiddle" with things all the time; change in your pocket, your keys, a pen/pencil, paper clip, rubber band, ANYTHING within reach

__5 __ often touching and twisting your own hair

__ 3__ very sensitive to pain, especially as compared to others

^^Lol I know it's not an actual quiz, I just wasn't sure what to call it. I didn't even know SPD was an actual disorder until today when I was showed that link. I had never even heard of it.
It took me til I was between 14-16 to learn how to tie my shoes lol

Yeah, funny story(not really) about me learning to tie my shoes... it was an incident in school that I believe made me learn to tie them.

I haven't tied shoes since I was... about 13, though , haha. I found a different way of doing my shoe laces that doesn't require tying. I've been doing that for years. However, I am decent at tying knots... there was a time when I was obsessed with learning to tie them.. and thanks for helping me to remember that, as I am involved in threads elsewhere about previous/past obsessions and now I can add that one. :D Tie-tying still eludes me though. :confused

My co-ordination really is odd. Its never been a strong point, but I am also not a total klutz either... some things I do very poorly; my throwing accuracy is terrible as is my depth/distance perception. Yet, other things, like jumping on a trampoline or riding a bike(did that at age 4) I do extremely well. Just have to lol at that really.

Lol how do you tie them without tying them? I have these things, I don't know what they're called, but you put the shoe strings in them & pull the thing up until it closes in place & it holds the strings in place so you don't have to tie them.

Lol sometimes I'll just be walking down the street or through the house & start to fall over. Plus, I sometimes bump into door frames lol.

Well... normally, I just straight lace them, which only leaves a lace on one side if done correctly. All you have to do then is put one small knot to hold it firmly, then tuck the lace into the little tongue holding pocket thing on the inside..

Yeah, i bump into things too, walls, doors, etc.. About a year ago I actually tripped over a laundry basket in the middle of the night and bit through my upper lip upon falling. Or at least I think I did anyway, as there was a cut on both sides... and it bled for a -long- time. I had to go back to sleep with a rag in my mouth, basically. Fucked me up. Didn't really hurt though, I actually didn't realize what had happened until I noticed blood was dripping onto my shirt. There is a small scar there now.
