 Recommendations ??? (sci-fi / fantasy)
Does anyone have any recommendations for good sci-fi or fantasy television series?
All I do mainly is watch sci-fi (or fantasy) tv series over & over obsessively. So far, just this past year or so, I've watched the entire series of:
"Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagined series)" "Stargate SG-1" "Stargate Atlantis" "Dead Like Me" "Carnivale" "True Blood" "Hex" "Sanctuary" & I just finished watching the entire series of "The X-Files." (I know that's a lot lol)
Now that I'm done with "The X-Files," I don't really know what to do with myself lol. I've just been watching the latest movie over & over again. I was told about "Fringe" & have watched some of it, but don't really like it much. I was also told about "Firefly" & am considering it, but am not sure. The same goes for "Babylon 5". I also have the old version of "Battlestar Galactica" that I'm going to try for the second time to watch.
But I was just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations? Just about anything other than any of the versions of "Star Trek" will be of help. In order to watch even one episode of "Star Trek," I will have to start with the very first episode of the very first version lol & I watched the first couple episodes once & didn't like them. (It's just the way I am lol-- Example: I know I would like 'The Next Generation' because I've seen random episodes, but I will have to watch every other version of "Star Trek" before I even get to it lol, so it will take me a while to feel I want to do all that.)
So, does anyone have any other recommendations besides those listed above???
I won't be surprised if no one answers, because I know this is an odd post lol

If you like X-Files, you'll surely like Outer Limits which I've always preferred to X-Files. I started watching Outer Limits right when it came out; I loved staying up late to watch it. The episodes are kind of hit or miss. Most of the episodes tend to be of high quality, but I'll admit that there are quite a few crappy ones as well. Maybe look through the episodes list on IMDB and download the episodes which look the most appealing to you.

Babylon 5 is really good. Ivanova is...delicious. I just realized that that's another show I can watch with a Spanish dub...
Anyways, my dad likes Lexx a lot. It doesn't seem to bad but I've never watched it in-depth really. Red Dwarf is weird British sci-fi comedy. There's also Dr. Who, which people seem to love but I've never watched. Legend of the Seeker is fantasy based off the Sword of Truth books by Terry Brooks. I've never watched it or read it, but I *almost* did because there were...girls in leather hitting people with billy clubs and kissing.
And Star Trek TOS gets better after the first season. I still haven't managed to get through all of it, though.

 Re: Recommendations ??? (sci-fi / fantasy)
Cool, Thanks you two! I was considering watching "The Outer Limits" before "The X-Files" ended because I knew I would need something else to watch after it ended lol, but I forgot about it by the time it did. I think I saw an episode or two as a kid & liked it. I asked my mom about it, but all she knew about was an old version that I hadn't even heard of lol. If I do end up watching it, I will have to watch the entire series, though because for some reason, I can't watch just select episodes of something. I have to watch the entire series from start to finish lol. I had never heard of "Lexx" but just wiki'd it & it seems like it might be pretty good. I forgot about "Legend of the Seeker." I wanted to watch it when it first came out but forgot to & eventually just didn't feel like having to download or or get it from the library to get caught up. I've never seen "Dr. Who" either & that's another one someone recommended to me but I forgot about lol. Thanks for making me think of it again

Wow, you watch a lot. Definitely watch Babylon and Firefly. Farscape, Andromeda(stop about halfway through though), if you like comedy kind of stuff the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy miniseries is great, there's a weird little cult show called Cleopatra 2525. Fantasy I don't know as much. Xena's good. And Supernatural. And if you want to get into animation I'll have a lot mote. You can just check out the anime threads around here.

I don't watch many tv series, I mostly just watch documentaries and reality tv. One show I am watching at the moment though is Spartacus Blood And Sand. I'm not sure if it's something you'd be into however, there's a lot of gore and sex, and creative swearing. I used to watch Heroes aswell, but I think that's been cancelled now. I hesitate to recommend it, after the first series it went downhill quickly.

 Re: Recommendations ??? (sci-fi / fantasy)
There was an original Outer Limits series back in the 1960s which I've watched. It's good, but I'm not sure if you're into black & white TV/films - not everyone is. If you are, you can check it out in addition to to the new(er) series. There were only two seasons of it, so it wouldn't take you a long time to finish it. Some of the stuff in it is rather dated, but it's the plot that matters most IMO. Lots of highly esteemed sci-fi authors wrote screenplays for the show, which made for a great original sci-fi series with strong plots. If you're into classic sci-fi, especially new wave stuff that was written in the late 50s throughout the 60s, don't hesitate to watch the series. Keep note that Outer Limits is an anthology series which means that the episodes aren't related to each other in any way. This means that it doesn't matter which order you watch the episodes in, or how many of them you watch. But if you really want to watch every episode for the sake of completing it, go for it. Just remember that, like most series, the quality from episode to episode varies. You may find some episodes to be tedious - I do.

 Re: Recommendations ??? (sci-fi / fantasy)
Twilight Zone (both the series from the 50's/60's and the one from the 80's.
Nightmare Cafe (if you can get it).
The adventures of Merlin
PSI Factor
Tremors (both movies and series, havent found the series for sale yet, though)
Babylon 5. You might also like its spinoff series Crusade.
The adventures of Hercules. Xena.
The Triangle (mini series starring Catherine Bell, not the movie.)
Alien Nation
"Buffy" and "Angel"
Charmed
Medium
Ghost whisperer
SeaQuest DSV
Sliders
Quantum Leap
Okay series: Lost. (the first seasons were the best, though) Flash forward. (some off episodes in the middle but over all not too bad) Fringe.
Lyrical, you don't have to watch Star Trek the original series to understand Next Gen or Voyager. I've seen very few of TOS but I love Voyager and like Next Gen. It's not about the same characters.

 Re: Recommendations ??? (sci-fi / fantasy)
BBC did a reboot (more like a re-imagining) of the old Dr who TV show a few years ago. The new series is excellent and I highly recommend it. Although the current season is kind of Iffy in my opinion. They change actors every few seasons, and I cant stand this seasons new guy. Torchwood is also worth seeing. Very good story lines and realistic characters who react believably. The special effects could have been better though. Now, these next two (technically 3) are absolute must sees. If you like Sci Fi and you haven't seen these, run out right now and download them. The Prisoner 1960's ; An Ex Spy is kidnapped and imprisoned in what looks like a Utopian island village but is actually a laboratory designed to get information out of his head. It features Fantastic writing, and a unique concept, Watch as the main character tries to escape while keeping his secret and maintaining his sanity. there is intense psychological manipulation and really creative scams. Surprisingly can be seen free online here http://www.amctv.com/videos/the-prisoner-1960s-video/The Prisoner Mini Series: This is vastly different from the original. Its also a psychological head game. The main character wakes up in a bizarre Utopian village the middle of a vast dessert and the series is basically him trying to uncover the secret of the village and try to escape. It looks like a happy utopia, but there is fear and big brother comes for you in the night. No place to run, no place they cant see you. http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner/The Firefly TV show (not to be confused with the Movie) is excellent and a must see if you have never seen it. Its a space western, which are two things that you wouldn't think would mix well, but becomes strong contender as one of the best shows ever made. http://www.hulu.com/firefly
