Film characters who remind you of yourself
List film characters who remind you of yourself. They don't have to match your physical appearance - they just have to remind you of yourself in some way.
Here's a character who reminds me of myself:
Graham Dalton|Sex, Lies, and Videotape

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
^ I can see that. I love the idea of this thread. I can't think of anything at the moment. Whenever someone asks me to think about movies I always draw really blank. It's awful, I must have seen thousands and all of a sudden I can't think of any.
Now that I think, I guess maybe Dustin Hoffman's character in...
Incidentally my mother used to tease me by calling me Pugsley when I was younger and fatter.

For me, it's River Phoenix's character in My Own Private Idaho, a narcoleptic male prostitute in love with his best friend.

Amélie Poulain from Amélie (Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) A daydreamer who notices and likes all little unnoticed details - just like me.

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
On a more serious note: Susanna Kaysen from Girl, Interrupted. Because she's a loser outcast who doesn't know who she is or what she's supposed to be, and basically whines about everything and nothing. This was actually my favourite movie a couple of years ago, but I think looking back it was more to do with how much I related to the character of Susanna rather than cinematic merit. It's quite a shit movie, actually. The book is much better.

My father loves that film, although I think he's destined to adore anything with Whoopi Goldberg in it.

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
-hey i saw that one, it was pretty confusing at the beginning having no background info. interesting film. theres a lot of characters who remind me of myself but only to a small degree since they always end up as heroes or being successful - what i am not. the most fitting character ive seen so far is "Dane" out of the movie "the Final". hes just like me, fucked by human behavior and unable to enjoy anything because of all the anger inside. i also like the idea of how he is torturing his tormentors and their cortege. the film itself was not that great but still okay. i think at the last 15 minutes theres a few mistakes but i better keep them to myself in case someone is going to watch the movie Dane is the one in the middle with the gas mask.

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
Napoleon Dynamite (yes, unfortunately, I have a lot in common with him, personality & behavior wise lol) Edward Scissorhands She's not a film character but in certain ways, Daria Morgendorffer was a lot like myself when I was a teenager (& in some ways even now) I felt a lot like Wednesday Adams in my pre-teens through early teens I even used to go around with my hair in braided pigtails & my hand raised saying "How! I am Pocahontas" like she did in the movie lol I know there are others, but that's all I can think of for now

Ed from Shaun of the Dead. Minus the charm and good looks. Adam Sandler from Punch Drunk Love. The way he acts at this party reminds me of myself (minus the fit of rage). Actually, I think anyone with social phobias can relate.

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
I can't think of any ONE character that's just like me, but there's some that I have many similarities with. The best example that I can think of is a combination of Daria and Tom's personality. As far as individual characters go: Stanely Ipkiss from the Mask Peter Klaven from I Love You, Man Calvin from Waiting(not a very good movie, but as far as character personas go, he's pretty close)

He's also not a film character, but I can't believe I forgot him: Dr. Rodney McKay from "Stargate Atlantis" Also Hoyt Fortenberry from "True Blood" Though the similarities between us aren't as strong as the similarities between me & McKay & some of the others I picked

I feel terrible for never watching any actual films, much less seeing anyone in a film I could relate to. ;;

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
The "I" character in Withnail & I. i can definitely think of a couple friendships in the past where I seemed to just fall into this role. Me being the one feeling anxious one moment and picking up after my friend the next, feeling basically like I'm the rational one in the friendship which is insane. The Antonio Banderas character in Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, because of the stuttering. This is no longer a problem thank god but I don't talk much anyway so it really doesn't matter.

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
John Constantine (Constantine)- addiction to cigs, pale complexion, attitude, sarcasm Billy Constigan (The Departed)- for my attitude, ability to get along with bad people when I really don't like them The Joker (The Dark Knight) for my sick humor and ability to laugh in the face of pain and take it seriously Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver) for loneliness, nightjobs (no, I wasn't a taxi driver), insomnia, as well as his concern for girls in trouble. I helped this 16 yr. old become brave and deal with her stepdad abusing her. She lives happily without him now. Teddy (Shutter Island- which I think is essentially a love story)- Him because I seen it at a time during my life after my dad died and I smoked some hallucinogen that messed me up for weeks. I couldn't tell the difference from reality and thought I was permeantly going to stay in that state forever so I wanted to kill myself. Also, I can't let the memory of my dad go, always seeing him in my dreams, and it kills me. .jpg) Tony Leung- (Chungking Express) replace that image with a pokemon and you get the idea.

Re: Film characters who remind you of yourself
Perceived as an horrible and cruel person (more likely in my head) acting agresivelly sometimes because of that, and with a desire to be loved (sorry for the cheesiness) Enjoyance for horrible acts of violence (don't worry, just the idea, i would never do it in real life) and classines, plus love for classical music, bowler hats and canes, which are awesome (Bruce Wayne) The great desire of helping people while not being exactly able to help them or being perceived as useless, but also wanting to develop both tecnically and personally to become a genius, someone that can protect and help others. Incomformity with the way and standars of society, which i think are stupid (i think i'm not the only one like that in here) and a desire for life to be something else, plus his cynical/nihilistic ways The way in which she always was in love with Todd and wish that he would notice that, but he does not care in the slightless bit and even with helping him in everything and confessing her dream of a future together, he only cares about his revenge
