Post What was your favourite game as a kid?
What was your favorite game before you hit your teen years (pre-high school)? You know, the one
you'll always think back fondly to. How it was revolutionary and/or the first game of that genre you played. How it mercilessly ate up your time. Or even how it was the first to actually draw some kind of emotion out of you.

I guess for me it would be FF7. I found it very engaging. Then again, kinda an understatement given the amount of time I spent on it. Stat maxing... Knights of the Round... Ganked Emerald and Ruby Weapon... Yup, definitely took a while.

What about you guys? :fun

Zelda A Link To The Past, on the Gameboy. It was the first game I really took seriously. I remember there was this kid a year above me in school and he played it too, at playtime we'd talk about it and he'd offer me advice on how to get past certain parts, I was about 8-9 at the time.

Diablo. It was so much fun being an arsehole to everyone I came across. Pretending to quest with them then stabbing them in the back when they are least able to resist. Then afterwards being really unpleasant to them in the chat. Yea, I was one of those punks.
In Diablo when you died you dropped all the equipment you were carrying too. Which probably seems really harsh compared to modern games. So, people would inevitably get very angry.

Either that or a mod called action quake 2 which I used to fore-go sleep for to sneak downstairs at night and play. My mom nearly strangled me when she saw the telephone bill at the end of the month. Online gaming wasn't cheap when it was just starting up.

I'd likely have to go with Zelda: A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo.

Played and beat it, without difficulty, sixteen or seventeen years ago. I've always been a videogame guru.

I want to pick Half-life, but I was somewhat older when playing it. I'll have to go with The Adventures of Lolo.

Every time I see the game or hear the music, nostalgia hits me like a ton of bricks. I played it from ages two to seven (when I finally got an SNES, but the N64 was already coming out, so what the fuck mom?) Other mentions from this era go to Super Mario Bros., Kid Icarus, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and DuckTales.

Argh, but then there's a whole 'nother era of video games after this. What a difficult question, haha.

=(

I used to play Mega Man a lot myself.

Mega Man, Double Dragon, River City Ransom, and Castlevania. I loved the shit out of my NES.

Considering I replayed FFVI probably 100+ times, knew every dialogue window, every secret and in total probably spent months in play time on that game while almost believing it was real, dreaming about it when sleeping for years etc... It was the big turning point which really made me obsess with a game. I had other favorites before that though but never quite to that extent.

It was the gameboy for me, Supermario and Supermario 2: the 6 gold coins. I still have my old school grey chunky gameboy and I still love to play now and again.

I had a Commodore 64 first but I can't remember any game I played on it that I loved. When I got the original Gameboy this was definitely one of my very favourites. It's still one of the best LoZ games I ever played, so much so I even bought Link's Awakening DX. Got me hooked on the LoZ series from that point on.
A pointless bit of trivia, the version that was bought for me was from Holland, so all the instructions were Dutch. I was stuck in the second dungeon for so long because I didn't know how to use the Power Glove. (>_<)

That game sparked my motocross obsession when I was young.

Then when I was a little older...

Super Mario Bros. 1-3 were probably my favorites. I also loved playing co-op Contra when I went to my friend's house. I didn't really get into video games much until High School though, which is when I got a Super Nintendo.

I think you're quite a bit older than I am? Which year did you get one in?

I got a Super Nintendo in 1992 or so, when I was only six years old. Played the hell out of it. Must have played over a hundred games on it and beat games hundreds of times.

In terms of board games: Mouse Trap. I'm still planning on buying that game again lol, even though I'll probably have to play it by myself

As for video games, probably "Super Mario All-Stars" by Super Nintendo
Image

The game that occupied most of my time was actually Donkey Kong Country, but I didn't get that until I was around 14 or so.

I played a ton of Donkey Kong Country, and the sequels too. They were practically the only games I ever played until the N64 came out.

When I was 5-6 years old(1995?), because I didn't know how to work the computer, but knew how to play the games, I would have my dad set up Doom before he left to work in the morning. So sure enough, when I woke up and ran into his office, there was Doom on pause, all I had to do was press esc. and begin blasting away :D

Doom, Duke 3d, Rise of the Triad, Star Wars: Rebel Assault, Mario 3, and Sonic the Hedgehog were my favorite games growing up. And of course A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, but those came a little later.

Both were fucking epic.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. After hours of playing I accidentally came across the games debug code which no longer exist on any of it's newer versions and I feel in love. That games was also followed by Street Fighter 2 as well as Super Mario All Stars and Mortal Kombat 2 all for the Super Nintendo.

I loved LoZ and it's free roaming style of game play. It was visually mesmerizing for it's time and had very compelling story line. It managed to excite me, frighten me, and bring tears to my eyes at times. It was an amazing game to play when I was 8 or 9.
