 Photography
For the past year, I went to art school to try and pursue a bachelor's degree in Photography. I'm not really know how I felt about this experience, except for that it was unbelievably stressful. A lot of the assignments were things that I was terrified to do -- such as talking to strangers and trying to get them to let me take their photograph. I would freak out about it, and push my assignments until the last minute. Even directing a photoshoot with models is really hard for me, since I have a hard time communicating and, if the photographer is awkward, the model will feel awkward. It's hard when photography, something that you found fun and exciting, starts to turn into work. For three months, I haven't been able to pick up my camera without feeling tense and uneasy. Hopefully this feeling will go away, because I really love photography, and it's something that I consider myself to be semi-decent in. Here's some of my work. I love black and white film and digital. Please don't hesitate to post some of your own work!

I really liked your photos. These three in particular I thought great. I love how impish you look, peeking over the sofa. The fishbowl one is stunning.

 Re: Photography
wow, those are some amazing photographs, you definitely have an eye for composition. lots of talent, there, pick up your camera again! you could have exhibitions and stuff. very cool. my favourite is the silhouette in front of the tv screen... is the movie still on the tv screen from the film funeral parade of roses? very creepy, i dig. i also love the one with the motion blur and the overhead fisheye shot. not sure if you were intending this as a photography thread for other people to share photos so i'll post mine in a spoiler tag as not to clutter your thread. they're not at all in your league but someday i wanna be able to take pictures that good. except i rarely pick up my camera anymore so yea ): a few that turned out pretty good: i've always wanted to get into street photography but i'm always too scared of people's reactions. i've never seen anyone else doing it around here so it feels weird.

 Re: Photography
!!!!!!! You keep surprising me, Noisy Requiem. Funeral Parade of Roses is one of my favorite films of all time, and yes, it's the shower scene that I had paused. I know what you mean, we had to do street photography for one of our assignments, and my professor's main complaint is that I was too hesitant and distant. It was very difficult. And by all means, I definitely want to see other's photos. I really like the first, fifth and sixth photographs. How do you like your Nikon? I've always shot with Canons, so, I don't know if there's a huge difference, but, I heard Nikon lenses are better.

 Re: Photography
sweet, funeral parade of roses is awesome! so many cool scenes, the fast motion sequences always come to mind when i think of it. and the eye gouging! i am a huge movie nerd, especially when it comes to japanese film. and im always so hesitant when doing street photography as well. before going out on photoshoots i always used to get all psyched up to go and shoot some street pics thinking i'd be able to do it. and i'd always chicken out and take pictures of random stationary objects and landscapes instead my nikon is really old (it's a d70-s), but it gets the job done i think. i'd still like some more lenses to go along with it (i only have the stock zoom and a 50mm f/1.8-- the latter of which i use most of the time). when it comes to brands, i'm not really that loyal.. so nikon, canon, pentax, etc.. they are all good i think. i think nikon has a bigger selection of lenses or something but i'm not sure and they're all so damn expensive anyway (: do you shoot digital, film, or both? i sorta wanna get a polaroid or leica for fun but i probably wouldn't use them much so i dunno!

 Re: Photography
It's great. I love movies with hidden messages and meanings, therefore, I can watch it over and over again and find something new. (: I love Japanese films, I watch too many for my own good. I know what you mean. I usually have the perfect image in my head and I get super excited, yet, I go outside, and spend a good 10 minutes staring at someone, debating whether or not it's a good idea to go and ask if I can take their picture, and when I finally come up with a decision, they're long gone. It sucks, especially when you think you won't have the opportunity to capture them again. Or I try to sneak somewhere and take their photo without their consent, hah.
Yeah, I know what you mean! There was always a nikon vs. canon debate at my school, and I just don't really care. As long as the camera doesn't crap out on me and it's not horribly complicated to use.
I shoot both, but, I really, really love film. Yet, it's so expensive to buy rolls, and it's very time consuming (such as developing, printing photos) so, it's something that I would do in my free time, as opposed to assignments. Digital is alright...but, I guess I don't like the fact that it can be horribly manipulated (I guess it could be the same for film, since one could scan in negatives). I just like sticking to classic things.
I would LOVE to work with a Leica if they didn't cost a huge arm and a leg. I've been experimenting with expired films, and I'd like to use really old cameras in the near future.

 Re: Photography
ah.. i see you already said you shoot both digital and film in your first post. i read it this morning before work and didn't reply till after i got back, so i had forgotten. i did graphic design in college so i shoot digital. film can be more expensive and it takes longer but i think developing film would be much funner than photoshop because you get a real sense of the craft. no qualms about image manipulation from me, though.. it allows me to make my stuff look half-decent. :p ideally for street photos, i always wanted to do candid shots because there's much more of a sense of spontaneity. another thing is i'm so slow at selecting the right settings for the composition i'm going for, so my subject always manages to evade me as well. but yea leicas are a little out of my range. always wanted to shoot on expired kodachrome film (if only for the fact i can sing paul simon's kodachrome while doing so, hehe). should also mention that i got a free film camera today (just an old cheap point and shoot but it looks really retro and cool). someone brought it in with a box of books and said they didn't want the camera either. it's a vivitar champion 35.. i haven't researched it yet but it's just a cheapo i think. we can probably save the japanese film talk for another thread (chair will get angry if we derail this one too much )

 Re: Photography
That is a GREAT photo Noisy Requiem. I don't know much about photography but it has a nice and ever so slightly pale sepia tone to it that gives it a certain warmth...if that makes sense. Really like that photo.
