 What's your major(s)?
Out of curiosity, I have a few questions for those who have attended or are currently attending college/university: 1.) What field are you guys in? 2.) How did you pick that field (i.e. personal interest, external influence, had a natural talent)? 3.) Do you find that your field and the eventual jobs available can be considered 'introvert friendly'? 4.) Finally, do you guys enjoy actually studying/working in your field? Do you plan to stay in it or is it only a stepping stone (i.e. until you finish up grad school in something else)? Thanks in advance to all those who reply.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1) I am in Arts general at a local university, but I am currently taking a year off to prepare for my audition to get into music school for vocals. I am not much of an academic and prefer learning through reading or discussion on a face to face basis. School isn't the best environment for me when it comes to seeing my full potential for academics; which is probably why I am taking a fine arts route for my degree.
2) Music is a hobby of mine, though I have never taken it seriously before. It's the equivalent of doodling for me. What made me decide to go into music is because I have a passion for it and that's what you need to go through four years of bullshit and stress.
3) No. It's going to be performance based and I'll need charisma to succeed. Though, I don't know if I'll get into a music career. I know, my post-secondary education plans have no clear direction. I like it that way though. I'm just going with the waves of inconsistency.
4) I didn't like general Arts, which is why I'm switching. I know it'll be a lot more stressful since it will also include studying as well as practicing (not to mention rehearsals), but I think it'll be more enjoyable that cramming information from textbooks and writing down notes I'll never read.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1. Computer Information Systems
2. I spend all of my time on the internet and had to pick a major, and being bad at math ruled Computer Science out, so CIS it was.
3. Yes and no. CIS basically equals IT. And there are a host of jobs in IT, some of which require dealing with people and some of which, generally the less lucrative jobs, don't. I'm still not sure really what I want to specialize in, really. I'm searching for the perfect introvert-friendly tech jobs. I'm also considering cyber crime.
4. I don't hate it. I would have much preferred going to school for English or Linguistics or even foreign languages, but beyond providing me with pleasurable study they would have done little else. CIS is practical. I also really want to go to grad school but am SOL because there aren't many grad school programs for it. A Masters is pretty much a waste in it because education matters less than skill in IT anyways. I'm thinking about going back to school later on after I've got a stable career/questionable income and pursuing a degree purely for pleasure. Who knows. College makes me feel safe.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1) Bachelor of Creative arts, majoring in Visual Arts.
2) I like drawing/painting. Always have, and really could not imagine being stuck in a course where I had to do maths or something like that. Personally, it was the only option for me
3) Really, a course like mine has no guaranteed job at the end, unlike nursing/teaching, mine is more freelance stuff. If I was extremely lucky I could live off my art and be an introvert, however that would take a miracle. Realistically, for me to be able to live off my art would take a lot of work, meaning I would have to be quite social, making connections ect, and it would take alot of time to establish myself. I don't know what I'm going to do after I graduate, I guess I'll try and pursue art but I don't have the confidence to really push ahead and become successful unfortunately.
4) I really enjoy it now, and if I could keep going with it and make a living that would be even better. However as I've said, I'll probably just end up in a dead-end job and having art as my hobby because I have no idea how to furthur my career after graduating. It gets me down sometimes, but the experience at university is worth it. I'm paying for my degree with a loan from the Government, which means that I dont start paying it back until I earn over the minimum annual income (around AUD $30 000 last I checked). So in theory, if i never earn over minimum yearly income, I never have to pay it back, and while I dont intend to be stuck earning so little, its a bit of insurance for if I do. It also means though that I'm never going to be able to earn/save alot of money until the loans are paid off. Bye-bye dreams of owning a home..

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1.) I'm majoring in History. No particular type of history so far. But I'm working towards an associates of Arts & Humanities degree at my college right now. I'm most likely not going to finish it, though. I'm probably just going to transfer my credits to a university & get my bachelors in history. It will be much faster & easier.
2.) Personal interest. I've always wanted to know more about history. I love learning & I want to know everything about just about everything & history seems to be a pretty good way to at least sort-of, do that.
3.) Yes. I'm planning on either being a librarian, an archivist, or something else. Either way, I've seen all sorts of careers history degrees can be used for & a lot of them I believe I will be able to handle someday.
4.) Yes, I love it. I may get my Masters in Library Information Science, however, to become a librarian. That was my original plan. But I'm not sure I still want to do that. I may either choose to stop at my bachelors in history & just become a librarians assistant, or archivist, etc. or I may choose to further my studies & get a masters or even doctorate, in history.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1) I'm currently a biology major. The first time I went to college I was a business major, but decided that wasn't for me. If I wasn't a bio major I'd probably be in an engineering program.
2) Biology and other sciences were always the only subjects I was ever interested in. Even when I wasn't in school I'd always try to get my hands on any kind of information about ecology, marine biology, evolution, environmental sciences, etc... so I decided to go after something that interested me and made me happy instead of just doing something to make money.
3) Possibly, though that isn't of too much concern to me. There's definitely potential to be locked away in a lab all alone, or out in the field doing research by yourself.
4) I love studying biology, environmental sciences, ecology/animal behavior... Hopefully I'll be able to work in this field for the rest of my life.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1) Photography and visual communication 2) They were both hobbies that I would love to apply to a career. 3) Yes, I feel they are introvert friendly, for the most part. 4) I would enjoy working as either a crime scene photog or a forensic artist.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1.) What field are you guys in? I'm studying for an MA in Sociology with Religious Studies. 2.) How did you pick that field (i.e. personal interest, external influence, had a natural talent)? Definately personal interest. I couldn't do anything I wasn't interested in. 3.) Do you find that your field and the eventual jobs available can be considered 'introvert friendly'? Introvert friendly perhaps, but not recluse friendly. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. 4.) Finally, do you guys enjoy actually studying/working in your field? Do you plan to stay in it or is it only a stepping stone (i.e. until you finish up grad school in something else)? I enjoy it, I'm considering doing some post-grad work in the same field afterwards, if i get the opportunity. Thanks in advance to all those who reply. You're welcome!

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1.) What field are you guys in? I majored in mathematics
2.) How did you pick that field (i.e. personal interest, external influence, had a natural talent)? I like math, and I'm really good at it. Plus, it was way better than computer science (my first choice).
3.) Do you find that your field and the eventual jobs available can be considered 'introvert friendly'? Definitely. Too bad I still don't want to do most of them.
4.) Finally, do you guys enjoy actually studying/working in your field? Do you plan to stay in it or is it only a stepping stone (i.e. until you finish up grad school in something else)? I studied an academic because I didn't really care to apply it to anything. I currently teach math as a tutor. I enjoy what I do even though it does get tiring sometimes.

 Re: What's your major(s)?
1.) Photography 2.) Personal interest from the time I was about 14 years old...and I want to think I'm somewhat talented. >_> 3.) Not at all, haha. I'll always have to communicate with people, which is a huge issue for me. 4.) It's hard, not going to lie. It's really hard to communicate with others and try to get out of my shell. I have dreams about getting far in my photography, yet, I somewhat feel it slipping away. So, right now, it's kind of an excuse for me to move out of my hometown.
