 Re: I can't post.
It's either just a general PHPBB forum-software glitch, or the forum-host messed up on something when they were configuring stuff. Clearing cookies/cache will likely fix the problem, albeit being a somewhat annoying way of solving it. You can try the following out: Scroll to the bottom of the main HikiCulture page and click on 'delete all board cookies': If you use Mozilla Firefox, do the following; click on 'Tools' then 'Clear recent history': A box will come up; where it says 'Time range to clear', select 'Everything', then only check off 'Cache' from the list below and finally click on 'Clear Now': This should solve your problem.

 Spam
Has anyone else been getting a ton of spam since joining this site!? Augh, I used to get one or two spam mails per month, and now, I get five or six per day!

 Re: Spam
It's not due to you joining this site. The staff-members here don't send spam out. Also, the host here is extremely anti-spam, so it would not be them as well. It is very common to receive spam. If you use Gmail, 99% of it tends to gets filtered to your Spam filter, so there's nothing to worry about. I'm not sure what email provider you use though. On some of my Gmail accounts (I've created a few over the years ), I receive around 20 spam emails a day. They don't bother me though since they go directly to my Spam folder and automatically get deleted within 30 days. If you want to quit receiving spam, just create a special email address to use next time you sign up to a website. Then if the site happens to put you onto various spam mailing lists, you don't really have to worry much since you won't be receiving the spam on your primary email address. Sometimes you don't even have to sign up to a site to go on a spam-mail list. Bots/people will automatically pick up your email address somehow. A fresh Gmail account of mine that I created received spam even before I had signed up to any sites, sent any mail out, or received any mail yet - plus nobody (except for myself) knew that my email address existed! I was stumped.

 Re: Spam
That is very strange - perhaps the spammer's program was simply "brute forcing" email addresses, and sending out spam to millions of randomly generated email addresses, in the hope that some of them would be real? I doubt that Google would partner up with the spammers to provide email addresses It's a funny thought actually, Google working in partnership with Viagra sellers and Nigerian "princes". As for the question raised in the opening post of this topic, I can only agree with what Chair has already said - I haven't seen any noticeable increase in spam either since joining HikiCulture. In total, I think I receive about twenty spam emails per day, but all of it gets automatically filtered by Gmail. Which email provider do you use, Koshka? It's well known that Google offers the best anti-spam services out of any email provider, so if you're already using a different email provider, what you can do is set up a Gmail account, and then configure your old email account to automatically forward mail to your new Gmail account. This will then provide you with all the lovely features that Gmail offers, whilst at the same time allowing you to keep your old address ( and even potentially send mail using your old email address from within your Gmail account, if it is configured correctly). In fact, this is exactly what I do - I manage about ten different email accounts via one central Gmail account. Alternatively, if you don't want to go through the effort of doing all that, you could follow Chair's suggestion - to simply create a "throwaway" email account when registering on a forum or website. One service which I recommend for quick, temporary email addresses is " 10 Minute Mail". All that you have to do to make an email account is visit the page - it creates a temporary email address for you, and also allows you to read email sent to the address. The address of the site is http://10minutemail.com/10MinuteMail/index.html

Between them is uneasiness and overstimulated curiosity, the nervous excitement of an unsatisfied, unnaturally suppressed need to know and to communicate; and above all, too, a kind of strained respect. For man loves and respects his fellow man for as long as he is not yet in a position to evaluate him, and desire is born of defective knowledge" (Death in Venice by Thomas Mann)

 Re: Spam
I think this is what they do. I have two email accounts, one uses my full real name (which is probably unique) and I barely get any mails on that, the other one just uses my last name and that one receives much more spam.

Uhh... Am I the only one? I can't find a "edit" button next to "quote" anymore. There was one, wasnt it? *confused*

 Re: Do you need help?
You can only edit posts for five minutes; therefore, you can only see the edit button button beside a post for five minutes after creating it. There is a limit on how long users get to edit their posts because users on forums will often delete/edit their posts after a while which can cause confusion. Lots of forums set limits on how long users get to edit their posts. Five minutes should be a long enough time to make people decide whether they want to keep their post or not or if they want to edit something small from it (a grammatical error, typo(s), etc.) If the edit expiratory-time ever goes past and you need me or a staff member to edit/delete a post for you, just kindly PM a staff-member to do so for you; just don't ask them to do it all the time; also, don't ask staff to delete/edit more than one post for you at a time, as that can be a huge hassle for staff.

 Re: Do you need help?
Then it's alright to make double-posts in short time here? I know from other forums it's not very nice to do that because it's seen as spamming. Actually I wanted to edit because I forgot to mention something so it would be alright if I make a new post instead?

 Re: Do you need help?
Yeah, I guess; just be sure to PM a staff-member to delete your previous post. Also: Try to not double-post in the future.

 Re: Do you need help?
It's actually pretty much impossible to 'double-post' (in the traditional manner) here since there's good flood-protection, so we wouldn't need a feature like that. Double-posting usually occurs when someone either accidentally reloads the page after clicking on the submit button, or when they click more than once on the submit button; if that were to happen here, you'd just receive a message saying that you're trying to post too frequently. You could manually double-post though if you'd wait long enough for the flood-protection limit to end, but that would be intentional double-posting; double-posting generally is unintentional.

 Re: Do you need help?
It looks like the anime and comics/manga forums have been deleted and merged into "Any Kind of Interest." I'm curious as to why. I think it's good to have the "Any Kind of Interest" forum but it seemed like the anime and comics ones were doing fine the way they were.

 Re: Do you need help?
They are what I'd consider to be miscellaneous interests. TV, Film, Literature, and Music are "universal" interests, while stuff like anime, manga and comics appeal to much smaller groups of people. I figured it would be better to have any kind of miscellaneous interest be discussed in the "Any Kind of Interest" board. Sure, lots of people here are fond of Japanese culture, but that doesn't mean that there should be dedicated threads to miscellaneous topics such as anime, manga or comics; they just seemed out of place. I actually decided to create the "Any Kind of Interest" board (which I've renamed to Miscellaneous Interests) after I thought of creating a thread dealing with coin-collecting. It didn't fit into any category, so I created a new forum for it (I've yet to create my thread which deals with coin-collecting though.)

 Re: Do you need help?
Yes, I get very little spam on my hotmail account but huge amounts on my gmail account, even after I made the settings on gmail such that not much spam should come through. It's rather baffling.

 Re: Do you need help?
Spam doesn't matter on Gmail though. Most of it gets filtered to your Spam folder, so it's not a huge problem. Hotmail is generally worse for spam than Gmail. I personally find Hotmail to suck major ass. No offense. I know lots of people who use it, and I tell them the same thing.

HTML isn't supported here, but there most likely are BBCodes I could create. BBCode is a modified form of HTML. Search through the BBCodes here to see if there's anything I can add: http://www.phpbb3bbcodes.com/bbcodes.ph ... 9711c434ac

I seem to have trouble with the IRC/chatbox... thing. (What's that called anyhow?)
For one, I don't even know how to access it.

Type a nickname in the nickname box and click on connect. You type and send messages like you would with an instant messenger. It's a chatroom. The chatroom is hosted on an IRC server.

It says that my nickname is banned and I've been booted.

Apparently I'm quite unloved.

You probably, by happenstance, chose the same nickname as a previous user whose account has been deactivated. Try again with a different nickname.

 Re: Do you need help?
A previously banned member shares your ISP's host-name. I removed the host from the ban list, so you may enter. We usually ban host-names rather than user-names. User-name bans aren't strong.
