Post Man 'who wanted to be left alone' was dead for four years
I just read this... :confused

Quote:
THE HAGUE: Relatives took literally a Dutch man's instructions not to be disturbed when he went to his bedroom: They let him alone and his body was found in bed four years later, police said Wednesday.

The man, 50 at the time of his death, lived with four siblings aged between 44 and 71 in the northern village of Minnertsga.

"He was used to being obeyed and very quick to anger," police spokesman Wouter De Vries said. "Four years ago he told his brothers and sisters he didn't want to be disturbed and went to his bedroom.

Though they frequently passed by the bedroom door, no one dared to open it and look in, de Vries said. The body was only discovered when the landlords decided some work needed doing in the room.

"A decomposing body produces a very strong smell, and it's really remarkable that his brothers and sisters don't seem to have noticed anything," the police spokesman said, while adding that crime was not suspected for the moment.

Wow. I think those people should face charges. There's no way they didn't know he had died. Or at least that something had happened to him. He might have had a bad temper, but that was just wrong.

I think it's really sad when I hear of bodies that weren't discovered for a long time. They must have been truly alone in the world to be left so along and not have anyone try to contact them.

His brothers and sisters must not have cared about him at all.

Something fishy is going on. I've had a personal experience in discovering a dead body, and they do smell. However, this was a fresh corpse and the smell wasn't too bad, but it was strong. If we didn't find out about him until the next day, the sun would have started to magnify the stench.

Since we have no idea how big the room is, it's possible he could have died inside and since the room is both dark and large, the smell wouldn't have traveled far (at least to the door). But my problem is that I don't believe they didn't opened the door. If the room was smaller, it's possible the stench could have traveled even farther, going into the connecting room.

I guess my point is that you'd probably smell something unless the room was airtight. And I've never been in a house like that. There are cracks under the doors too.

If I'm gone for a week, don't fret HikiCulture.
If I'm gone for a month, it's no big deal.
If six months pass by, something is up.
If I'm gone for a year, assume that I am dead.

Wow, that's crazy! You'd think that one of his siblings would at least wonder why he hasn't come out of his room at all and check on him. . .

That's horrible! How can you totally just disregard your sibling for four whole years, let alone not even notice the smell of a decomposing body. Ah...

In a way I kind of envy him... I wish everyone would leave me alone for four years (or longer).

But anyways, it's a pretty messed up story. I find it hard to believe that that everyone living in the house went four years without ever opening the door once, or without noticing any smell, or without noticing that he never even came out for food/bathroom, or without doing anything, even when he hadn't been seen or heard from in years. You have to wonder what was going through their heads.

My thoughts exactly. They should at least made sure he was eating, etc, I can't believe the stupidity of this story. :unsure
