Post Re: Anxiety looking at people in public?
I never look at people in the eye, it just makes me feel very uncomfortable. When I walk outside I always make sure I have headphones on with music loud enough to drown out the sound of being outside. I always keep my head up though, but I make sure to ignore people and just look through them. The worst for me is getting on a train, I never sit across from anyone. But people always tend to sit in front of me, which makes me think that they are judging me and think that I'm weird because I look at the ads above their heads avoid their eyes and drift my vision across the floor. I actually had a small panic attack when a girl who obviously was checking me out sat in front of me. i tried to ignore her which i'm sure made me look creepy and awkward. My stop could not come fast enough :mad

I always try to avoid looking at people whenever possible. It just makes me really nervous and uncomfortable when I look at people.

I don't tend to look at people. I always have my head down (not because of anything, it just comes natural to me), always in my own world. I don’t like looking at people and I hate being looked at. Eye contact is torture.

In public I try to avoid direct eye contact with people too much but I still tend to do it and half the time they're looking at me so I don't see a difference between me or them. I keep my head up though.

The reason I try to avoid it is because a lot of people in my town take offence to being looked at by anyone, despite being the ones looking back at me when our eyes make contact. Its like they're looking at me to make sure I'm not looking at them, fucked up I know.

None of them have any balls though. On more than one occasion I will have looked at someone as they've gone to pass me and they'll murmur something under their breath in response, something like "wtf he looking at". Thats all you'll get though. You can usually tell the types who would take major offence to it by the way they look, they'll be dressed in typical chavvy clothing and look like a typical smackhead.

Yeah. I either don't look at them, or look at them too much. You can't win here.

I don't look to people in the eye during conversations. I just couldn't feel comfortable.
When I was in highschool, even if somebody called me from a distance to say hello, I still wouldn't glance back because I'm not sure about what to say or I'm afraid of making a clumsy of myself.
When I'm in the Public, I'm actually more anxious of the fact that I felt somehow I don't belong and that nobody cares for me rather than feel like everyone is watching me in a paranoid way like in the anime Welcome to the NHK. Being unable to belong or fit in actually builds more anxiety than anything else.

This.

I'm actually pretty interested in people, I'd like to observe them and see what they're doing. But then I also don't want them to see me stare, so I mostly try to keep my eyes on the ground.

I'm uncomfortable looking people in the eye when I'm talking with them, but I always try to make myself. I guess the eye contact makes a conversation more personal? Sometimes I can't help looking at random people in public. I never know where I'm supposed to look when I'm in a store.

What I've noticed from going out these past few times is that it's actually not that hard for me to make eye contact with people anymore if I'm talking to them, but if I'm just walking around I always try to avoid eye contact.

Is it a normal thing to look people in the eyes when you're only walking past them? Why, for what reason? I'd rather pretend they don't exist.

Well I notice a lot of people looking at me when I walk past them, but I never do it since it makes me feel uncomfortable. I just don't see the point in doing it.

Me too, I avoid eye contact, though i do look around... A lot of the time i look at other people when their far away, but whilst passing, head down avoid eye contact. I also walk quite fast which I think other people find odd. Also dislike others laughing near me.
