The HC 1-a-year Grand Video Game Contest! - Games thread '10
Do you have a suggestion for one of the games we should play? Then make a suggestion about it here! Keep in mind though:
1) There needs to be some kind of scoring system/Time attack system
2) It should be something people will be able to run with an emulator and take a screenshot of.
The HikiCulture Once-A-Year Grand Video Game Contest! Games suggestion thread! Flash Pacman is rather hard, namely because it isn't programed like the original. Therefore, it makes for an excellent game we can play. Type of competition: ScoreTetris Friends was chosen because of it's accessibility and the fact that we can play against each other (while it does require registration, I don't see that being too big of an issue). Get out there and practice! Type of competition: VersusTower of Heaven is a rather short plat former. Should you be interested in trying this one out, play through the main game first and get a feel for the level layout. Type of competition: Time Attack

If I'm gone for a week, don't fret HikiCulture. If I'm gone for a month, it's no big deal. If six months pass by, something is up. If I'm gone for a year, assume that I am dead.

I know it isn't a good example for high scores, but if there's a online multiplayer version of Bomberman (official or unofficial) I would be VERY interested. Loved playing that game on the SNES and the Sega Saturn - multiplayer at it's most accessible and best.

I'll have to give it a try, but it looks like we could do Bomberman. Stepmania and QIX work, but does Stepmania have a 2P Versus mode?

Can't forget the RTS's. Like StarCraft, and WarCraft. Heck you could even do some of the command and conquer series if you used Hamachi, which is free now. Or does rule two only entail roms/flash games and not retail games? Cause really you could take a screen shot of anything via the print screen button on a PC or the fn key + print screen key on a lap top, then just paste it in MS paint.

As much as I'd like to include a game like StarCraft and WarCraft, I don't know how many people actually own those. While I have both, I'm more of a WarCraft person. Hamachi always confused me. Do you know exactly how multiplayer works with Hamachi? And, yes. While you could take a screen shot of anything, we're relying on everyone's good will that they won't cheat. I think that most of us are an honest bunch.

Re: The HC 1-a-year Grand Video Game Contest! - Games thread '10
I'll suggest a few shmups. Dodonpachi (Fun cave bullet hell shmup. It's easy to emulate on mame) Darius Gaiden (Another Mame game that's closer to standard shmups) Touhou - Imperishable Night (not emulated but it's an imported game easy to find on rapidshare) It has a unique score system. Galaga - (Classic) One of the Gradius games (They're on all kinds of systems) Axelay (My favorite snes shmup)
I'll think of some non shmups tomorrow.

Re: The HC 1-a-year Grand Video Game Contest! - Games thread '10
After some careful thought and consideration, I picked 3 more for us to compete in.
Galaga
Stepmania
Assorted
Assorted is anything you can think of, so long as it is a versus game.
Whoever competes is responsible for reporting their win/loss.
That way, if there is a discrepancy, we can handle it accordingly. Screenshots are recommended, but not necessary.

I can't forget I actually didn't go through with this.
Ok, month voting time. What do you guys think would be a good time when we aren't so busy?
Should we change the gamelist?
C'mon, guys! I need to know this stuff!

I like the implication that any of us are ever busy

Re: The HC 1-a-year Grand Video Game Contest! - Games thread
I'm never too lazy to play video games. The only thing I really care about is having one challenging shmup, preferably a vertical scrolling one and one with a complex scoring system so it's not just whoever can beat the game with the most enemies killed . Here are some I'm thinking. Ketsui(MAME) (easy to grasp scoring system, it doesn't require as much memorization as some shmups) Espgaluda (MAME)(complex scoring system for those who'd like to learn and compete in it. I'd have to learn myself.) Ah hell most cave games are good for this. Some have better scoring systems than other (DoDonPachi chaining is lame actually). Gradius III (SNES) (simple scoring, focusing on survival) Touhou: Imperishable Night (Focusing on bullet grazing and accumulating time points) And this isn't a shmup but I'm sure there's people who'd want to try this.
